Summary
Daan doesn’t know how he left on the train to Prehevil with not a soul in the world to care about him, but returned with two kids.
Taking Levi in was an obvious choice. As the only doctor of the group, someone had to oversee Levi during his rehabilitation. The boy had expressed many times that he hated being addicted to heroin, so Daan immediately agreed to help him. Even though he never took the Hippocratic Oath, he still feels obligated to help every life he sees if they need it.
Marina was less obvious and less necessary. She expressed interest in staying with Levi wherever he went since the two had become friends quickly—likely due to their age and Marina’s kindness—but had nowhere she wanted to return to. Vatican city didn’t feel right, she had said, not with all she knows now. And staying in Prehevil wasn’t even an option anymore. His bleeding heart accepted her right after she pouted at the prospect of finding a new place to live.
Perhaps he just didn't want to feel lonely anymore.
Or, the one in which Daan becomes a father and Levi and Marina are better for it.
