"RUN!" The Doctor shouted, grabbing your hand and sprinting through the market, pulling you along with her.
"Shit!" You mumbled, stumbling a little at the sudden change of pace. People were staring as you made your way through the dense crowd, a string of apologies leaving both you and the Doctor's mouths as you bumped into person after person. As you glanced back, you saw the alien-looking guards start to emerge into the street, guns trained ahead of them as they shouldered through the stunned crowd. You quickly kept your eyes forward, on the comforting familiarity of blonde hair and grey coat sprinting in front of you. You gripped her hand for dear life and trusted her to somehow get you out of this mess like she was so good at doing.
You hadn't thought it would be this serious. Honestly, how were you supposed to know that the police on this world had the same punishment for every crime - death. Whilst exploring the market the Doctor had taken you to ("It's amazing, honest!" The Timelord had said, gushing about the millions of wares found in that particular market that were otherwise as rare as gold back on earth, whilst simultaneously promising it would be a relaxing, strictly no-danger day out) you had spotted a stand selling what looked like some kind of toffee apple, though they were massive and decidedly more delicious-looking. You'd asked for two, handing one to the Doctor and keeping one for yourself whilst you rummaged around in your pockets for change. As the Doctor took a large bite, grinning at you in response to the taste - to which you couldn't help but smile back, she was so pretty when she smiled - you produced a fistful of pound coins from your jacket pocket. As you placed the coins on the counter, the shop owner's expression looked downright suspicious. You realised your mistake (stupid, of course aliens wouldn't use pound coins, the universal translator only adjusted whatever their currency was to pounds) and quickly apologised, handing your apple back. You glanced at the Doctor to do the same, but were met with a guilty expression.
"Ah, sorry mate," She said to the alien, who by now most definitely thought the two of you were ripping him off, "Want it back?" She offered innocently, wafting the half-eaten apple in his direction. But he was already signaling to the guards, who did not take too kindly to two aliens coming to a market with absolutely no means of payment. As soon as she'd seen the guns advancing towards you both, the Doctor had dropped the apple which caused this whole mess and grabbed your hand. And now here you were.
You emerged out of the hustle of the market, and it took a while for your eyes to adjust from the millions of string lights in the crowded street to the dark alley you found yourself in. Two moons shimmering ahead were your only light source as the Doctor led you onwards, through the seemingly endless alley. You knew the guards would be nearby, soon they'd be out of the market and in the deserted alley, at which point they would have a clear shot at you and the Doctor. Seemingly coming to the same conclusion, the Doctor suddenly stopped dead in her tracks, causing you to run into her. She whirled around, looking you dead in the eyes. Your heart was racing in your chest and your breathing was fast, but she seemed practically the same as always - if not a little serious.
"Y/N, do you trust me?" She asked, solemnly. You squinted back at her. Trust her? What sort of a question was that? You were running out of time...
"Yes," You responded, simply, to which the Doctor flashed a grin at you before pulling you into an alcove in the alleyway. The guards' footsteps were getting closer by the second, and you were sure they were in the alley now. If you stepped out, you were dead.
"Doctor!" You hissed, "What are we doing, surely they'll see us when they come- mmph!"
Suddenly, the Doctor was kissing you. You gasped, falling back against the wall as her hands came up to cup your face. Mind reeling, you closed your eyes and kissed back. Any thoughts of what the fuck is happening were quickly drowned out by oh god this is nice as she took your gasp as an opportunity to slip her tongue into your mouth. Distantly, the sound of footsteps thundering past registered in your brain and a few seconds later she was gone. You opened your eyes, mouth hanging open in shock, as you tried to collect your thoughts. Did that really happen? The Doctor was a few feet away, her back to you and seemingly focused on something in the alley. You ventured out of the alcove, head spinning, quick enough to watch the last guard round the corner and move away from you and the Doctor. Oh.
"There we are! That worked out," The Doctor grinned, finally turning back to you. "Didn't notice a thing,"
"So you- that was-" You began, before squeezing your eyes shut with a sigh.
"Had to make us look inconspicuous. Sorry, probably not the best way to go about it. I mean, I would've usually taken you out to dinner first, at least - I mean, only if you wanted to, of course, but if you did I totally would-"
"Doctor," You cut in. She was rambling, cheeks flushing pink as she supposedly realised what she'd done.
"Because it was a nice kiss, but I should've asked permission first-"
"Doctor." You said, a little louder this time. She finally stopped and looked up at you.
"Yeah?"
You took two steps forward, closing the distance between you and kissing her. The Doctor stumbled a little before her hands shot to your waist to steady herself and she kissed back, smiling into it. Her lips were soft, and warm, and it was like the first time but somehow even better, because you wanted this and you could tell she did too. You pushed a hand into her hair, gently scraping along her scalp. Much to your disappointment, the Timelord pulled away, and you opened your eyes, suddenly worried you'd gone too far.
"Ah, Y/N," She breathed. She was a blushing mess, obviously more affected by this kiss than she was by the other one. You tried to preserve the image in your memory and made a mental note to try and get her looking like that as often as possible, if she'd let you.
"Was that... okay?" You asked, voice wavering a little as you removed your hand from her hair.
"Yes, oh, yeah, totally- more than okay," She reassured you, still grinning, and the pressure on your chest lifted. You smiled back.
"I just think we should probably go somewhere a little more, um, private," She said, quickly. "Somewhere we won't be disturbed," She added with a smirk.
"Sounds good," You replied, and she took your hand again to lead you back to where she'd left the TARDIS. "And I haven't forgotten that dinner you mentioned,"
She glanced back at you.
"Neither have I. I'll try and find someplace that won't try to kill us the second we step inside,"
You laughed, squeezing her hand and noticing the warmth that spread through your palm as you did. You could get used to this.
