Chapter Text

Surens magic is too strong!

Recently, Wren had been training in magic. She was taught to weild her magic properly and for some reason, it’s insanely powerful.

Naturally, like the little fae boy he was, Oak had to take advantage of this. Since Oak was Wren’s saviour, she would do anything he wanted and her power was practically at his beck and call.

And so this is how two small fae children (tried to) trick their Psuedo-parents.

One dark and gloomy night, when the stars were barely visible and Oak and Wren had just come back from their training, they were visiting Elfhame for a while before returning to the human world, so they had to prank Jude and Cardan while they could.

That’s what Oak thought anyway.

“So what if you conjured some cockroaches? I’m sure Fae don’t know what they are!” Oak giggles while kicking his feet in the air, lying one side of his pale white canopy bed.

Wren lay on the other, staring at him in shock and horror. “But what if the high queen finds out? She’s Mortal, and we would surely pay for our crimes.” Though Jude wasn’t that bad as to kill a child who did not threaten her position in Elfhame, Wren who was quite unaccustomed to adults who weren’t horrible couldn’t quite understand the concept.

“She won’t know…probably.” Oak shifted around to lie on his back, staring at the ceiling. “She was only in the mortal world for a short time and as a small child.”

“We shouldn’t do this though…” Wren sighs, not wanting to fight with Oak, she would give in soon, Oak knew that. “Plus cockroaches have all kinds of diseases”

“It’s not like the cockroaches would be real~” Oak eyed Wren with a wicked grin on his face. “Come on! Please! Use your illusion magic!” He pleaded, giving her the classic puppy dog eyes though, even without them she would’ve given in.

“Okay, but what if she asks us? She knows I have illusion magic and, when she tries to kill one she’ll know it’s an illusion!” Wren pleaded, hoping Oak would just change his mind.

“Well, just make the illusion better, she’ll never find out.” Oak Huffs as he sits up sharply, climbing off his bed, opening one of the numerous draws of the cabinets. He dug out a map of the Palace which Wren wanted to ask about but held her tongue.

“Let’s start planning! Well I’ll plan and you do the magic.” He grinned as he started drawing incoherent doodles on the map with a sharpie.
Wren climbs out of his bed and watches him sketch out the plan on his desk.
She saw that there were lots of arrows, she sigh at the thought of doing such complicated magic but she also didn’t want to be sent back to lady Nore.

“So just…(insert detailed plan I’m too tired to think about right now)” Oak explains, a little too enthusiastically seeing it was the high queen they were pranking. Wren nods along, although she had Oak explain it multiple times before she got everything and started drawing on her magic.

Wren tugged at the strings of the world, pulling everything into existence as if the world was her plaything.

Oak watched the door for any Maids that would come in and interrupt her spell casting, his grin widening when he saw a cockroach scurry across the hallway floor.

No one seemed to notice, not yet anyway.

Oak retreated back into the room when Wren called for him, sweat glistened on her forehead but she was wearing a small accomplished grin on her face. “It’s done, oh right. What about the high King?” Wren asked, sadly Cardan was only on afterthought.

“He’ll probably just run to Jude and they’ll kiss.” He says, making a gagging movement which made Wren giggle.

“The high king isn’t entirely defenceless!…probably.” Wren argued, to make sure their heads aren’t lopped off the next day and to defend him.

Suddenly they start hearing servants shriek about disgusting mortal insects in the Palace of Elfhame. Chatter and screeches of Fae accompanie the heavy sound of footsteps in the halls.

“It seems they’re panicking, you’re the best Wren!” Oak has a big grin on his face as he turned to Wren. Whose face was now a slightly deeper shade of blue. “Now let’s go for a ‘stroll’” the prince who was wearing a sly smile, held out his hand for Wren to grab onto.

They walked through the halls calmly, Oak grinning whenever a servant ran screaming about the creepy mortal insects. Wren clutched Oaks smaller hand tightly, looking around the halls for any sign of the high queen and her husband. “So if Jude catches us…we run right?” Wren whispered-she heard the sound of high heels clicking in the halls.

“Yup we…” the familiar sight of chestnut brown hair and a beautiful dress appeared around the corner. Wren was already grabbing Oak and sprinting, if Jude asked them about the cockroaches they were dead. Oak screamed and giggled as they ran, though Wren wanted to cover Oaks mouth she couldn’t without stopping.

Somehow, they managed to flee back to Oaks room and slam the door behind them, Oak giggling the whole time. Wren had to cover his mouth so he that he could catch his breath was how hard he had been laughing. They could hear and feel Jude approaching though along with a softer presence who was probably Cardan. They scrambled to to get under the bed, hands over their mouths to stop them from making any sound.

The door opened with a long creak.

Wren screamed when the face of the high queen suddenly appeared under the bed.

“Oak. Suren. What have you done?” Jude said sternly after Wren and Oak crawled out from under the bed.

“Oak suggested it!” Wren accused while pointing a finger at Oak. “Wren made the illusions!” Oak blamed as he stared at Wren sadly, like she had just betrayed him in a scheme where he was supposed to take the win.

“Enough! Both of you, I will teach you swordsmanship personally for the next two days.” Jude’s voice was calm, sending a shudder down Oak and Wren’s spine. Internally they cursed themselves, they were doomed.

They would never see the light of day again.

It is said for the next two days, wails of terror flooded the halls of the Palace. Along with the laughter of the High king. The young prince never dared to make use of illusion magic for pranks again. Though he never said he would never prank again…
