Truth or Dare

Summary:

It's Class 1-A's tri-monthly reunion and Mina is determined to dig up some old high school shenanigans through Truth or Dare. What she doesn't know, is that Izuku's got his own dare to complete. One he gave himself when he purchased the ring those months ago.

Notes:

Work Text:

It was around 7:30 and Class 1-A’s tri-monthly reunion was in full swing. It was a few years past graduation now, everyone slowly working up from sidekick to pro. They tried to host something of a reunion every few months. They had all bonded impossibly closer together since the war and learned to lean on one another. This time, Momo had graciously offered her and Shouto’s penthouse for the event. Someone had ordered pizza and almost everyone brought some booze despite Shouto keeping a very well stocked bar. With full bellies and drinks passed around, the group had settled for a game of truth or dare while conversations floated around. It was like they were just normal people, not infamous heroes who had literally fought a war.

Izuku was off to the side, watching from a distance with a content smile on his face. He loved these reunions. Getting the chance to catch up with everyone and share good news all around just made him so happy. This was what he fought for, amongst other things. To have these moments with the people he loves most. His eyes roamed the crowd, checking everyone out with a caring eye. Most of the group was gathered around the couches, participating in the game. Toru, Fumikage, and Asui were sitting at the mini bar nursing some drinks while watching the shenanigans.

His eyes eventually landed on a head of spiky blonde hair belonging to the one and only Bakugou Katsuki. He was curled up on the sofa, wrapped in a blanket Momo had procured from somewhere. He had the smallest of smiles on his face as he sipped at a beer. Eijirou was to his left and Denki to his right, the duo doing their best to rile Katsuki up. Unfortunately, the booze was making it a bit more of a challenge as it relaxed the blonde.

“Oh oh! Kats! Truth or Dare?” Mina crooned. The girls had all honed in on Katsuki with quirked brows and sneaky smirks.

“Neither,” The blonde grunted, uninterested in the game.

The girls all booed. “C’mon Kats, you gotta play at least one round,” Mina goaded.

“Nope. Not interested,” Katsuki took another swig of beer.

“Bakubro don’t be like that! It won’t hurt to humor one round!” Eijirou tried.

“Yeah Kacchan!” Denki cheered.

“I don’t wanna fucking do it!” Katsuki snapped. His ruby eyes were blazing with irritation now, but the group didn’t let up. They pestered and picked, insisting Katsuki participate in the game.

“Guys, if Kacchan doesn’t want to play, don’t pester him,” Izuku stepped in. Katsuki shot him a look. A small, barely noticeable look. One filled with thanks and warmth. It was there for just a moment before Katsuki’s scowl deepened.

“Dude, even Izuku was willing to play a couple,” Hanta goaded. Katsuki scowled, red eyes pinning Izuku to his spot. Izuku shrugged. They weren’t wrong. The greenette had played a few rounds before bowing out to work up the nerve for what he really wanted to accomplish tonight. He hadn’t anticipated the game-night being woven in.

“Fine, fuckers,” Katsuki growled, gulping the rest of his beer before burrowing into his blanket. “I’ll fucking play,”

“Yes!” Ochako shouted while shooting Izuku a subtle wink. Mina cackled viciously, grinning a wide smile.

“Truth or Dare,”

Katsuki narrowed his eyes at Mina, as if he was trying to decipher what the pink-woman was up to. Izuku could see gears turning in the blonde’s head. Katsuki stook his chin up from his blanket burrito to proudly declare dare for the room to hear. Mina smirked, shooting a sly look at Eijirou.

“I dare you to tell everyone about all the love confessions you received in school,” Mina crossed her arms with a cocky grin. Katsuki snarled viciously. The group all began crowing for the information. Not many knew Katsuki had received quite a few confessions during their UA years. Izuku himself was only aware of the one he’d been present for. Katsuki didn’t like advertising his supposed availability when they were still in school. Especially with all the news surrounding his two near-death experiences and his role in defeating Shigaraki.

“What the fuck Raccoon Eyes?” Denki snickered from the rage in Katsuki’s tone.

“C’mon Bakubabe, dare is dare,” Mina shrugged with that same cheshire cat grin.

“Fuck that, I dunno what you’re on about,” Katsuki shook his head. Mina raised a brow and nodded to Denki. The electric blonde winked and whipped out his phone, scrolling through something on it with a maniac-like grin.

“Bro you are so lying right now and that is so unmanly!” Eijirou shoved Katsuki’s shoulder. The blonde hissed from his fuzzy burrito, baring his teeth in preparation to bite at any fingers getting too close.

“Fuck that! Why ya wanna know, HAH?” If looks could kill, Izuku was convinced half of the proclaimed “Bakusquad” would be dead right now. Katsuki’s glare was furious and his teeth were practically glinting in the low light. The only reason there were no explosions was because his hands were tucked into his blanket and Izuku knew Katsuki didn’t want to destroy his comfort item.

“Because they were hilarious!” Hanta crooned through his laughter.

“Eiji! Tell them about the blonde chick!” Denki called. Eijirou snorted into his drink, spilling it all over himself as laughter bubbled up. Katsuki’s face twisted in disgust as his cheeks began to turn pink.

“Oh god, the blonde chick? She tried to corner him after training, when he was trying to get in the showers. We all know how Bakugou gets when he’s filthy,” The group gave a unanimous flinch. “Yeah. So blondie goes up to him, grabs him by the arm, and tries to tug him down so she can whisper in his ear,” Eijirou cleared his throat despite Katsuki’s growing death glare. “Oh, Bakugou-Senpai, you looked so good during training. You totally kicked Midoriya’s ass. You are so much stronger than him, you’ll be number one in no time,” Giggles and spit takes occurred as Eijirou finished off his squeaky girly voice. “Bakugou threw her off of him and started, of all things, yelling at her for not addressing Midoriya properly,” Eijirou wheezed out.

Denki took to the stage next once his giggling faded. He had his phone out with a bunch of texts pulled up. It seemed that the Bakusquad had taken notes on every confession with the intention of one day embarrassing Katsuki. Izuku felt a little bad, but it was rather adorable to see the blonde peeking out of his blanket cocoon to just glare menacingly at everyone who was giggling at the stories. It helped that Katsuki was wrapped in Izuku’s All Might blanket he’d left behind after a late mission with Shouto. Katsuki seemed completely unaware he was using Izuku’s blanket.

“There was also the support girl with black hair. She took to his ‘dark side’,” Denki snorted, taking a sip of his drink before turning towards a red faced Katsuki. “She gave him these drawings of skulls and death, lots of explosions and flames. She spoke with this spooky tone too. It was so creepy yet fucking hilarious,” Denki proceeded to give a demonstration of the creepy voice, drawing out yet more laughter. Katsuki’s glare was bordering on murderous now. Izuku couldn’t contain his own snickering. He withdrew his phone to snap a subtle picture. Katsuki’s glare looked so dark and promising, but the All Might blanket ruined any threat that the blonde possessed. He looked like a kid who’s toy got taken away.

“Oh oh! Can’t forget Camie’s friend!” Mina cooed. “Oh, Bakugou, Camie told me loooooots about you. Especially about those shoulders! Mwah, they really are something in person. I’d love to have those arms wrapped around my-,” A pillow launched from the blonde blanket burrito interrupted the story.

“Fucking hell, is there anything else you extras wanna spew?” Katsuki growled out. Izuku chuckled. It was clear Katsuki was fed up with everyone now. His ears were flushing red and his cheeks appeared to be burning. There was a twitch of his lips though, a sign the alcohol was giving him a bit more humor. An idea came to mind.

Izuku slinked away from the group, listening to Mina and Katsuki bicker about the love confessions. He silently opened the coat closet, fishing for his jacket. Once he got it, he rooted in the pocket to dig up the item he was searching for. He didn’t realize how much he had in the pocket until he was digging through so much crap for the small box.

“Item acquired,” Izuku whispered victoriously when he withdrew the item. He stuffed it into his jean pockets, returning to the living room where Mina and Katsuki were still bickering. Katsuki had sunk even further into his blanket burrito, now up to his ears in the All Might themed cloth.

“Fuck off Racoon Eyes! Why the fuck does it need to be my shit?” The blonde seethed like an angry cat. Denki fell off the couch laughing at Katsuki’s antics while Mina let out a sudden shriek of excitement, brandishing Denki’s phone. Izuku wasn’t sure when the pink-haired hero had gotten across the room to Denki.

“Oh oh! One time, Eiji did it too!” Denki choked out between his giggles. Everyone began to cry out in surprise and curiosity, all eyes on Eijirou. Eijirou was blushing, sheepishly kicking his feet as he eyed Katsuki. Katsuki was fully buried in the blanket now, only anger-filled crimson irises visible. Izuku could already see the blush he knew the blonde was hiding. He shot Katsuki a soft grin, excited to hear the story.

“Oh that’s right!” Hanta snorted.

Mina was shaking with laughter, nearly keeled over. “Bakubabe was complaining about all the confessions and Eiji swept in, dropping to one knee with a newly curated workout routine for Bakubabe and said “ Bakubro, my manly best friend, I love you ,” Denki sparked with electricity as he collapsed to the ground cackling. “Bakugou was staring at Eiji with these huge eyes as Eiji went on to say ‘ Be with me, Bakubro. Platonically. I will provide all your workouts for the rest of our days’, ” The former-students burst into more rounds of giggling and shrieking. Eijirou was chuckling now, staring fondly into the distance as he remembered the moment. The blanket burrito was trembling with silent laughter, letting everyone know he wasn’t as upset as he appeared. Eijirou reached over and tugged the blanket off Katsuki’s head. Katsuki snapped his teeth at Eijirou, but didn’t replace the hood.

“Yeah, yeah I did. Afterwards I just admitted I felt obligated to, as the best friend,” Eijirou leaned over to punch Katsuki’s shoulder gently. “Couldn’t leave my best friend hanging like that,” Katsuki snorted and rolled his eyes. Izuku took a deep breath. Now’s his chance. He moved to the mini bar, nodding to Fumikage. Fumikage nodded back, handing him a shot. Izuku threw the liquid courage back easily. He knew he needed it for what he was about to do.

Izuku set his shoulders and strode into the middle of the group with purpose. Eijirou and Katsuki were now playfully fighting as everyone snickered around them. Izuku admired the soft blush on Katsuki’s cheeks and the small smile peaking out. Katsuki paused mid punch to look at Izuku when he cleared his throat. Everyone paused their antics to look at their green-haired friend. Izuku took a deep breath and let that confident, victory smirk slip across his face. The one he knew Katsuki loved and could never get enough of. Izuku rarely used it, as he felt a bit silly with it. He wasn’t sure why the blonde was so infatuated with it.

“Now, how about we round these off with a proper confession, hm?” Izuku’s husky voice drew everyone’s eyes to the two. Katsuki’s cheeks were flushing darker, red eyes staring up at Izuku with this mixture of surprise and question. Izuku just maintained his smirk, reaching into his pocket to withdraw the special ring he had custom made for his beloved. He dropped to one knee and ignored the gasps of surprise blooming around them. Katsuki’s mouth fell open in shock, one hand coming up to cover it as Izuku looked up at him. Izuku knew the stars were practically shining in his eyes by the way Katsuki’s own were misting slightly. Katsuki probably thought Izuku wasn’t listening the night the blonde went on a tangent about proper proposals during the rom-com they were watching, but he was. He’d been waiting for the right moment since he bought the ring months ago.

“Kacchan, we’ve been together for nearly our entire lives. Through thick and thin, somehow, we were always at each other’s sides, whether or not we always wanted to be. Our relationship has seen everything. From our first words to our near final breaths. It was you by my side when I started my hero journey, motivating me with every step forward. I know you wanted to keep this to ourselves, to treasure it without the media or ‘nosy extras we call friends’. Miriko informed me as of last week, I am officially a Pro-Hero and no longer a sidekick. What do you say about becoming my first official victory as a pro?” Katsuki let out a croak of a sound, tears welling in his eyes as he stared at Izuku. Izuku just kept beaming at him, watching Katsuki’s eyes begin to water more. Begging him to take the ring, to say yes. As if Katsuki wouldn’t.

When Katsuki tried to speak, all that came out was another choked sob. He settled for nodding his head and lurching forward as the former Class 1-A began to let out whoops and hollers mixed with awes and other people crying for the couple. Izuku caught Katsuki easily, wiping away the blonde’s tears after slipping the ring on his finger. Before Katsuki realized it, Izuku swept him up in a bridal carry, grinning down at the blonde.

“Well baby?” Izuku teased. Technically, Katsuki hadn’t said yes yet. Katsuki’s mouth opened and closed for a moment before he smacked Izuku’s shoulder.

“You asshole! Fucking yes! A thousand times yes! Fucking hell-,” Izuku slammed his lips to Katsuki. Katsuki hummed into the kiss and wrapped his arms around Izuku’s neck. They took a few moments to just kiss one another in their bubble as their friends celebrated around them. When Katsuki broke the kiss, he pressed his forehead to Izuku’s. They shared their breath, looking deep into one another’s eyes as everyone else faded away for a moment. “Damn cheesy nerd. First official victory?”

“Of course, only you are deserving of that honor,” Izuku murmured, pressing a kiss to Katsuki’s temple. “Besides, I’m your cheesy nerd,” Izuku smiled. Katsuki snorted and threw his head back to laugh.
