He took them out once more and read over them, his heart sinking. It wasn’t good enough – Kaito was certain it wasn’t. Why was it so hard to write a single decent sentence about how he felt? This was supposed to be his declaration of undying devotion to the love of his life. Everyone was going to be listening. They would know if he did not sound sincere. He would know.
“All of this is a mistake,” Kaito muttered to himself while staring at the contents of the cards, “I’ll have to start over again.”
He did not have much time left. The little get-together they were hosting in the main ballroom would have been well and truly wrapping up by now. Kaito resigned himself to the fact that he would have to spend the rest of the night fixing his notes up.
Footsteps approached from behind and Kaito shoved the cards back into his pocket.
“Finally found you – thought you could escape from your ball and chain?”
