Chapter Text
“Ya’ know, Paimon thinks after all of this travelling, Paimon thinks Paimon’s favourite region is Mondstadt!”
“Oh? Why’s that?” Asked Lumine, as she finish cooking delicious, sticky Honey roast, at Good hunter’s stove, handing some over to her travel companion, whom very much appreciate it,
“The food here is so good! Though, now that Paimon’s thinking about it, Liyue also has great food, so does Inazuma-“
“I’m pretty sure every region is your favourite region if there good food,” interrupted Lumine, teasing her emergency food for her very strong gluttony,
“Hey! That’s not true, … Okay, maybe it is but Paimon pretty sure Paimon will never like Shezhnya, It probably will freeze Paimon to death!” Says the hungry companion, that manages to swallow down a whole sticky honey roast (who knows how she manages to eat all of that in one bite) “ no offence to anyone there, though!”
Right before they decide to grab a seat at one of the tables nearby, the traveller overhears, some jogging coming to their direction when familiar voice rings through both her and her companions ear,
“ Traveller! I didn’t know you were coming to Mondstadt this soon! Seems like you just got some honey roast! Do you mind if I join? I’ll pay you for the inconvenience of course!” Amber yelled as she joined her friend’s table “ so tell me, how are your travels? I heard you recently got to Fontaine! And how was it? Gosh, it’s been so long!” She asked as her bunny headband, practically perked up to be twice the size before, showing genuine excitement
“Amber! We didn’t know you were on your break!” Paimon spoke back in the same amount of enthusiasm and excitement as Amber, probably one of the few people who can keep up with her anyways, “Fontaine’s been great, but we’ve just recently went back to Mondstadt as there wasn’t much to do currently, I let’s just say the Hydro archon was quite the surprise! How are the knight recently?”
“ It’s been great! And there wasn’t much workload this time so the most we ever had to do a few reports, some paperwork and patrols, things have been going pretty well all things considered,” Amber replied immediately, yet as soon as she finished, it was clear something was bothering her before she started speaking
“although, recently, a letter came by address to the quartermaster and cavalry captain, since then, as much as he hides majority of what he’s thinking, somethings clearly bothering him.. he’s been staying inside his office more, and he seems extremely melancholic, Jean pretty worried about him as most of us assumed that whatever was in that letter was pretty bad sense most of us know that he has quite the big façade and mask,” Amber replied in a solemn tone
“recently another one came up, the only difference is that instead of Kaeya being more despaired, I guess, he seems more panicked and frustrated, any time I see him he shaking like a leaf and avoids most interactions, I also heard him breaking and smashing random stuff in his office”
It was clear to both the traveler, and Amber know something was wrong with those letters, given how both of them were right before the sudden change in mood for the dear captain, knowing this information, someone decided to interrupt,
“Oh no! And it doesn’t seem like he’s in the best mood, how about we give him a visit after finishing this up?, Plus it’s been a while since we saw him to”
With that the mood change to be a tad bit better and more positive although it didn’t clear much, after settling things, it would seem like a good idea to meet with Kaeya, and give him some words of affirmation, whatever were in those letters shouldn’t hurt him this much, so the sooner we figure out what’s going on the quicker, we can help kaeya,
————————————————————— • Time skip to the headquarters
Getting to Kaeya’s office was new get easy to find, although the traveller never went upstairs, in the knights of Favonius headquarters, and it was easy to find given certain sounds..
*Smash!* *Thud!* *BANg!*
It was no surprise that something was clearly wrong, as they reach the door, hearing shattering of item on the other side, kaeya was probably still in quite distress when Amber took note and probably still was given how did description of before lined up with now, right next to the door, however, was acting grandmaster,
*Smash! Smash! Smash!*
“ Traveller! I didn’t know Amber was bringing you over, is it about Kaeya?” Asked the distressed, and probably a very worried Jean, from the current situation there are you seemed like Jean was trying to get into Kaeya office and figure out what was going on before the others got here,
*Bang!* *screech!* *thud!*
“ I appreciate that. You’re also willing to help our dear friend. Seeing what’s in your hand, I presume you brought food for him as well, I would like to thank you personally for this kind gesture”
“we thought bring some food that Kaeya might like would help, after all, nothing cheer Paimon up better than some fresh and hot meals by good hunters! And, Paimon assumes well given how, uhhhh” Paimon said before some yelled- “ARGGGGH! THAT STUPID FUCKIN’ OLD MAN NOW COMES BACK?! AHHHHHH!” -out, probably Kaeya, whatever this old man did clearly pissed him off… a lot
“yeah, never mind- Paimon doesn’t think even the traveller’s food will do much- But it’s worth a shot!”
Given the situation, Paimon was not wrong to think that, and who knew what was behind that door? Probably a lot of scratches a bunch of broken stuff and a disorganized mess. Probably has papers everywhere on the floor perhaps some glass mix in, heck! If Kaeya is crazy enough, he probably have thrown his desk at god know where. That would probably be somewhat likely knowing that he was raise in the same household as a certain redhead,
*knock-konck* “Kaeya, it’s Jean, Amber, And the traveller, we’re coming in.” And right after that it seems like all hell broke out the moment Jean open that darn door. As soon as Amber put 1 foot in, an ice shard almost slipped through her head- effectively killing her had Kaeya not stopped it. To say one thing at least. The room is as predicted if not worse,
papers flung everywhere, glass shattered. One of the bookcases fell down, and a good amount of snow buildup on top of all of that. And what do you know? The desk was thrown directly at the door. Affectively blocking the others from getting in for a split second before the others climbed on top. Yikes honestly, they’re probably gonna have to call the maids to clean it soon.
Taking a quick look at Kaeya, his hair was very dishevelled, with random loose strands and tangles in his messy bun style he wouldn’t usually wear probably for efficiency, a half-ass version of his normal outfit that he probably put on really quick, and his face being probably the worst part.
As Kaeya had really dark eye bags that was covered in make up, but you could still tell, heck, he was barely wearing any make up, and even the make up he did wear such as mascara and other stuff, to cover up his dishevelled look was running on his face, clearly signifying that he has been crying in rage or sadness
Quickly, putting up his façade that was clearly not working, he spoke “Acting Grandmaster Jean, I sincerely apologize for this mess, just things came up…” he sighed as he sat down at his chair, which he surprisingly hasn’t moved, shocker, I know, “ what brings you here? Is there any work I need to do?”
“Kaeya, with all due respect, there’s nothing it’s just I want to check up on you,” replied Jean as Kaeya perked up from the notion “oh?”
“ as much as I would like to ask you to tell me what going on, I would like to ask not as your superior, but as a friend, you seem pretty dishevelled and quite out of it and I don’t like to see you like this, is there anything I can do to help?”
“Jeanie there’s nothing wrong it’s just stress, don’t worry about it-“
“you’re not fooling anyone looking like that, please just tell me, is it about those letters I promise to keep this private, it would just be between us unless you want to bring anyone else here”
That must have cracked kaeyas mask enough because it seems like it was working, as he sighed, his lip started to move once more “Jean, please-“
“I’m not stopping until you tell me what’s going on”
“ Alrighttt fine,” Kaeya said as if he was preparing to speak. “apparently-my-biological-dad-is-coming-back-in-the-second-letter-I-received-and-then-the-first-letter-it-was-telling-me-about-how-someone-spotted-a-man-that-looked-just-like-me-saying-certain-things-in-my-home-language-and-I’m-worried-that-he’s-gonna-take-me-away-as-in-the-second-letter-again-he-also-mentioned-on-how-he-was-going-to-head-over-and-take-my-other-siblings-to-and-I’m-scared-because-one-day-he’s-probably-just-gonna-drag-me-home-and-I-don’t-want-to-do-that-because-I-love-this-place-too-much-I-swear-to-God-“
“Kaeya! Slow down you’re having a panic attack, just breathe in and breathe out, just * inhale* hold it and * exhale*, once you calm down, we can break everything down,”
*inhale* … *exhale*… *inhale* … *exhale*
“… sorry”
“Hey, it’s alright, do you think you’re ready?”
“….yeah”
“Good all right so tell me you said you had siblings and your biological father is coming back, assuming that the second letter was written by your father, who wrote the first letter?”
“… master diluc, wrote it as a warning to me, when I talk to him about the letter, the other day, he confirmed that it was from him, that’s why I was nervous, because if he saw him that means he might be in Mondstadt, or at the very least somewhere near, about the language… promise me that this won’t get out to anyone unless I tell them,”
“ Nothing will get out of this,” assured, Amber, as the traveller n’ Paimon also nod with Jean
“ The traveller already knows, but I am originally from Khaenri’ah, so I assumed that my father spoke to someone in Khaenri’ahn, as far as I’m aware, I don’t know much about my family aside from during the wine trip to Sumeru, I found out some something pretty bad, apparently one of my ancestors decided to make the fucking abyss order, I swear I’m not from there though, I swear!”
“ Kaeya calm down I don’t think you’re from there, or at least agree, if you didn’t know before, I believe that you’re speaking the truth, although that is a lot take in, about your siblings,”
“ I was supposed to be here oh way to probably keep me alive. But I also have siblings who were sent to other regions. I have a younger sister, named Alyssa, a younger brother named Zakai and my younger sister, Amari, I don’t remember much of my childhood, but I do remember overhearing my father, speaking with I believe it was a tutor of mine perhaps, about sending me to Mondstadt, Alyssa to Fontaine, Zakai to Natlan, and Amari to Shezhnya, although I can’t be so sure if it succeeded or not, and as far as I can think the worst possibility is that they all are dead currently, and the somewhat best possibility would be that they could’ve ran away and are still living”
“ Although the most likely situation would be that they were sent to each nation respectively, and is currently doing whatever, although given how he did mention my other siblings, it’s safe to assume that he’s already after them to..”
“…” the silence was enough to get the group to have chills running down their spine but Jean broke the awkwardness “ do you mind if we look at the letters?”
This seem to perked Kaeya up as he wouldn’t have to recall the horrors in the letters that wore him down, taking out the two letters he hid in his sleeve, he passed it to Jean before giving one simple sentence, “ please don’t damage it “
In the first letter, it reads :
“Dear K,
A few days ago, while at the the tavern, an ominous man came to the tavern and started speaking a foreign language that I don’t know of, he also was in a way, really similar to you. White hair, pale periwinkle eyes with a star pupil, a dark complexion, or that’s weird cloak, on top of what I presume to be clothing similar to that of the man with blond hair, and the man looked in his late 50s to early 60s,
He seems to want something, I don’t know who this man is or what he is to you, but whatever it is, it’s concerning, now that I think about it, he’s been coming over more often talking to someone, or writing something down, i’ve been keeping an eye him in case he was a threat, but what I’m getting at is something more sinister happening, sometimes I’ll see him outside of Mondstadt talking to a abyssal creatures, Harolds, etc. I also took a note that, despite not having any kind of vision and delusion or whatever he seems to be able to control elements. Not just of the seven, but also this weird black element as well, it kind of reminds me of the black fire incident, but more controlled and dangerous,
In my conclusion, whatever this guy means to you, or if you even know him, it seems out for someone rather then Mondstadt for some reason with all of my knowledge, I̸̪͘ ̷̱͗d̵̜͌ó̸̠n̸͙̎’̵͚̅t̵̢̍ ̴̰͠w̵̗̓a̶̪̎n̵͇͝t̴̾ͅ ̵͍̄y̸̝͗o̷̞̎ú̷̫ ̴̤͂h̶̬̓u̴̟̔r̴͙͝t̸̢͂,̷͈͋ ̶̯̈I̷͎͗ ̴̘̍w̸̫͋a̵̮̕n̷̥͒t̸̲͐ ̴̞̕y̷̟͠o̴͍͛û̴̼ ̸͉̈ẗ̴̟o̸̡̊ ̸̜́c̵̰̾o̶̞͐m̴̞̿ë̵̯́ ̸̨̒ḣ̷͇o̷̱̍m̶̺̑e̴̲͝,̴̮̊ ̶̲̋I̴̫̐ ̵̚ͅa̵͇͊m̴͕͆ ̴̤̊ẇ̶͖o̶̘̾r̶̖̈́r̴̜̈i̷̦͆ě̴͖ḋ̵̹ ̴̤͐f̷̦̔ö̶̥́r̴͖̎ ̶̳̓ỷ̷̗o̷̘͊u̶̼͋,̸̦̌ ̴̻̿I̵͙̓ ̸̪̕ẇ̷̗a̴̱͌n̴̮̆t̶̢̅ ̷͕̃t̶̹̔o̶̺̓ ̴̼̏h̸͗ͅẹ̸̓l̶͇̂p̸̗̈́ ̶̺̏y̵̱͝ọ̶͊ư̴̖,̴̯̉ ̷̯͋I̶̻͝'̷͔́m̶͎͊ ̷͖͋s̶̱̓o̵̧͂r̸̯̃r̷͔̾y̷͍͐…̷̥̈́ … Stay safe Kaeya, you should probably go take care of yourself

… at least we know what this man looks like, although it seems like things were crossed out at the end, I barely making out some words like sorry, home, and worried, for the second letter, it reads :

“Dear son,
I am fully aware of where that it’s been decades, since I last reached out, it’s me, your father, I sense our plans are already going into action. Your mission is almost complete I know I haven’t told you about how your mission worked, but I will tell you afterwards.
Be prepared as I am gonna come back and get you to come back to your homeland with your sister Elyssa, Unfortunate though, Zakai and Amari ran away a few days after I sent Elyssa on her way, I know you care about them, but because they chosen to leave, they will not get to live in the “New World” we’ve built,
Don’t tell me that you care too much about Mondstadt as I will allow your friends to come over if they know what’s good for them, knowing they’re from “that” land, though they’re probably too stubborn how foolish, I know better for you don’t listen to them,
I know I haven’t told you much, but I guarantee you the reason why will make sense after you come home to our “New World” so it’s better if you come to your senses and know that they have been manipulating you into loving that horrid God of theirs,
… a pity honestly, they could have been with us, since they show great potential, what a shame please don’t be like them, you are our last hope,
-J.A.”
No wonder why Kaeya was so erratic these past few days, Jean realized, if she had been told that she had to be separated from her homeland, growing up with people she cared about only for a few days ago, to receive a letter about how her sister ran away she had to betray the place she lived in and had to go back to her old family, she would have been mad as well, Sam probably wanna go with Amber and traveller,
“Kaeya…” jean spoke softly, now that she had the full story disgusted her to her core, kaeya and his family had been used by his own people and father, just to avenge a nation that was destroyed 500 years ago, and have to live with that burden for almost more a decade, just for Kia, having to decide between his homeland and loyalty to Mondstadt, a Home that treated him with love, Jean knew that Kaeya couldn’t betray Mondstadt like this. He loved it too much. She could hear Amber gag, knowing everything while connecting the dots while the traveller and Paimon gave their solemn sorrows and apologies.
No-one, especially Kaeya didn’t deserve any of this, this was practically torture to anyone! Poor Kaeya, his life was now practically written all over his face and body, what’s this why he loves alcohol? Is this why he was so secretive? Or is this why he was scared??
No, Kaeya doesn’t deserve any of this, everyone could tell right now how rough it was for him. He needs comfort, love, care, attention, no one should have lived through that, and no one deserves to do that to anyone, and live to tell the tale, no matter how much sugarcoating they put,
“Kaeya. You realize how bad that is? You didn’t deserve any of that, not as a child, not as a teenager, and not now, no matter how bad someone is no one should go through that, you’re a good person I know it, you just didn’t have the right family at the time”
“Jean, please- I don’t need this remorse-“
“no Kaeya,” jean responded hugging him tightly to show support, “ and you didn’t deserve any of that know that we all care about you and are worried for you, let us help you just like you helped us all the times before” who is that, the dam broke, as tears fell from Kaeya’s eyes too quickly for him to process, with Amber and the traveller joining in with Jean for that darn hug, for quite some time he sobbed, I and they allowed him to take a break before processing and speaking,
