“Jim.” The sound of Spock’s voice washes over him, and he smiles, cranning his head all the way back and smiling as the Vulcan came into view. The air on New Vulcan was pleasantly warm in the late hours, the home that Sarek and Amanda had built was nestled to the side of a hill. One that Jim had climbed earlier in the evening and watched as the binary stars sank below the surface and the city that lit up in turn.
New Vulcan, not unlike its predecessor, had laid host to a large body of water, there they had begun construction on what would be New Vulcan’s capital and main import and export hub.The view from the hill had allowed Jim to see the whole city.
“Hey, Spock.” he replied, ignoring the way his heart fluttered in his chest at the Vulcan speaking his name, glad that he finally got the other man to drop the ‘captain’ while on shore leave. While unofficial, a number of crew had beamed down to take in the town, and Spock had extended an invitation to Jim to join him for the few days they were planet side. Stating that not only was it logical to reside near each other if an emergency would arise. (Of that, Jim was doubtful.) But also at the insistence of his mother. (Which was slightly more believable.)
“I see you’re enjoying the view.” Spock said, eyes looking out over the city and then glancing down to the spot next to Jim in a silent question. Jim nodded his head and Spock sat on the red ground next to him.
“I am.” Jim replied, eyes not wavering from where they settled on Spock. Wind blowing his hair and the slight dusting of green at the tips of his ears. “It’s quite breathtaking.” His gaze finally breaking away and looking back over to the city now a light with life.
Spock peaked at him from his peripheral and felt himself grow warm despite his body’s thermodynamic equilibrium functioning at more than adequate levels. His heart beating faster in his side. “Indeed.” He replied, and at that moment he allowed himself a small smile.
