Work Text:

Rainy nights are fitting for a murder. The way I see it, the night Lynette was given away, it was also downpouring. The lightning flashed up just like the knife Arlecchino used to kill her new "parent", and that nightmare was burned into the deepest part of her brain.

Even years later, when the night turned stormy and lightning streaked across the sky, Lynette found some shelter in her brother's bed.

Lyney had grown up knowing what to do to comfort her sister on nights like these. As a child, he read her a story, but as they grew up, it was enough just to snuggle up next to her, curled up under the duvet, whispering words of assurance, stroking her back.

Lyney didn't meet many others who were so afraid of the storm. Until one particular night, when a storm raging outside woke Aether. The memory of the lightning strike during his trip to Inazuma stirred him every stormy night. Sometimes he even felt a burning phantom pain in the scar across his back. Lyney awoke to startled squirming and pained moans. His heart clenched at seeing his lover's suffering.

He called Aether by name, cupping his face between his hands, shaking his body gently to wake him up. Aether shivered in alarm, tears streaming down his cheeks, his eyes trying to take in the sight of Lyney lying next to him. As soon as he came conscious, Lyney hugged him tightly and murmured in his ear that everything would be all right. His hand stroked Aether's sweat-damp back under the T-shirt, his fingers tracing the scars of the lightning strike on his back.

Lyney swayed Aether gently in his arms, one hand alternately stroking his hair or caressing his back, his lips brushing soft kisses over Aether's face, damp with sweat and tears. "𝘖𝘩, 𝘮𝘰𝘯 𝘤𝘩é𝘳𝘪."
