True Love’s Kiss

Summary:

The brave prince must travel far to save his princess... sort of.

Notes:

So this wasn’t planned. I am not a liar since i didn’t plan this. Sarah had some awesome ass art and I had to follow suit. SO, this is for Bischoco’s Madrigalcest FairyTales event!

Here’s the post on twitter: https://twitter.com/biscocho_uwu/status/1685017551527354369?s=61&t=SUe9U8KBNBtjodivXfZugw

AND it’s for Sarah, since her art is so wonderful. Here’s the art on twitter https://x.com/sarahsindara/status/1696933818760823092?s=61&t=SUe9U8KBNBtjodivXfZugw (and, in turn, her profile). Please show her some love!

Enjoy!

Work Text:

Camilo stared at his map in confusion and squinted at the scribbles. Bruno really needed to work on his handwriting.

Well, it’s not like this was going to be easy.

He shrugged and threw the map over his shoulder. “Come on Parce, looks like we’ll be doing this the hard way.”

Over the mountains.

That was the only real direction he had to save the princess from her castle.

The Rojas kingdom was one that the Madrigals never went to. Queen Alma said it was beneath them. She hardly acknowledged that her daughter married the prince and started a family. While Princess Pepa stayed to have her children rule one day, Princess Julieta (Queen Julieta to the Rojas Kingdom) married her prince and moved far away.

The Rojas still visited.

Well, he was sure they all visited.

He got so distracted by only one of them that he never quite paid attention to the others.

She needs me.

Adjusting his cloak, he concentrated on his excursion.

A jaguar was quite an unorthodox way to travel, but his brother assured him that this was superior to a horse.

Faster, more agile, more keen to the environment, Parce was an excellent companion and vehicle.

The journey took weeks, several nights of nothing but the symphony of the jungle to keep him company.

And Parce.

Her presence alone made him feel much less in danger.

But no danger would compare to the one his princess was in.

It was unknown who cursed her.

A witch with a vendetta against the magicless princess with a heart of gold. It was an evil act that he knew he couldn't sit by idly and watch.

Especially when, according to his uncle, she only needed true love's kiss to break the spell.

And there was no doubt that his lips could defeat the evil magic.

Finally, after endless weeks of travel he made his way over the enormous mountain range just before daybreak.

There she is.

I'm on my way.

The castle was becoming larger and larger with every trot Parce made. "We're almost there, old girl."

He was allowed in without hesitation, his intentions more than clear.

"The east corridor," King Agustín said with worry. The thought of his daughter finally awakening after weeks of slumber had to be a source of anxiety.

Camilo nodded and climbed the giant staircase.

This castle certainly wasn't adorned the way that Casita was, but was still fitting for royalty. Dark blues and elegant purples bathed every hallway and room with a sense of home in spite of the opulence.

Mirabel

Her name was etched in the wooden door, her image carved to show her beautiful face and curls. Those signature glasses just made this all the more real.

Here goes everything.

She was sleeping under the covers.

He expected that.

But the rose she had planted in her fingertips gave her the appearance of the deceased.

However, the subtle rise and fall of her chest quelled those worries.

This was it.

He sat on the edge of her bed and took a deep breath.

Please wake up.

With the last bit of courage he had, Camilo leaned down to gently kiss her lips.

Suddenly, he felt a surge of magic. A warm tingling sensation that trickled throughout his entire body. With that sweet feeling, he felt her lips start to press back.

It worked.

Finally, he pulled away and started into the large hazel eyes that entranced him so heavily he traveled kilometers upon kilometers to save her.

“Camilo?”

He thought about this. He’d pondered during his journey all the things he would say to her. He’d confess. He’d compliment her. He’d ask how she was and if she was in any distress. He’d shower her with the most lovely words of appreciation and adoration that Shakespeare himself would cry at.

“Hey.”

Close enough.

“…What are you doing here?”

“Uh, I’m here to save you. Ya know, wake you from your eternal slumber and all?”

“…Camilo you realize that was Sofia, right?”

He thought back to her cousin on her father’s side, all princesses of the Rojas empire. That wasn’t at all part of the instructions he’d been given. “Wh- no! Bruno’s prophecy said that the youngest princess of the Rojas castle had a spell put on her. That’s you!”

She smiled warmly and sat up. He finally realized how much she’d grown since he last saw her. “I think I would know if I had a curse put on me. That was Sofia. Trust me. She’s next door.”

"Then what's with the rose? And you sleep in your glasses and earrings?"

"Yeah, that was an accident. And the Mama has been leaving us all with roses every night since Sofia fell. Isabela said they were for good fortune. I guess you could say she's a bit worried," Mirabel said with a frown.

“Then why did he-… oh, that sneaky old man.”

“What?”

“He… ah, it doesn’t matter. I’m here now. Not gonna lie, I missed you. It was, uh, mostly why I came.”

Mirabel smiled bashfully and took his hand, “You came for the less than magical one?”

“You’re beyond magical, Mirabel. I felt it myself just now. And the fact that you still have that beautiful light in spite of how everyone undervalues you… The last ball I just couldn’t keep my eyes off you.”

She laughed, “I thought you were staring at the chocolate.”

“I won’t lie, that stole my attention for a second. But you… you’re a wonder, Mirabel. You’re beautiful, hilarious, you can dance like an angel… I missed you at home,” he confessed with a squeeze on her hand.

Mirabel bit her lip with a grin. “I missed you too, Camilo. No one here is anywhere near as fun as you… as amazing as you.”

Camilo felt a weight off his shoulders.

She missed him too.

Yes.

It wasn’t a confession but it was good enou-

“I love you, Camilo.”

The air in his lungs froze.

The words he’d been dying to hear from his sweet princess were uttered in the delicate, dreamlike air. It only took a beat before they found a home in his heart.

"I love you, Mirabel… come with me. I'm to rule soon and I can't think of anyone more fitting to be my queen."

She placed her hand on his chest and her eyebrows knitted in disbelief and flattery. However, a flash of doubt ran across her face, "But what about Sofia?"

“She can find her own prince. I’m yours, Mirabel.”

Mirabel shook her head with a huff. "I guess she was never very nice anyway."

"Probably why she got cursed." He laughed and cupped her cheek, "What do you say, princess?"

Her next words were exactly what he wanted to hear, an affirmation of their bond and fate.

And with his newly betrothed in his arms, they exited her castle to start their new life.
