a perfect man;

Summary:

Everyone tells Isagi that he is very lucky, that he is the luckiest man in the world, that he is the envy of many women and men just for having managed to make Michael Kaiser fall in love with him and become his partner.

The perfect man that everyone longs to have.

Kaiser thinks the opposite as he chuckles every time he hears those words, in fact, he is the one who considers himself lucky to have someone like Yoichi by his side.

Notes:

A little bit of angst with a happy ending.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

When Kaiser turned 25, he decided to announce to the world that he had stopped being a single man long ago, that his heart already belonged to the best forward of the Japanese national team from the moment he first saw him.

And that feeling was confirmed when he went to meet him at the start of the Neo Egoist League.

For many, it was a huge surprise, while others saw it coming. It was unbelievable, how was it possible for someone so 'normal' to conquer the great Emperor of Germany and steal his heart?

How was it possible for a man as perfect as Michael Kaiser to fall in love with someone as 'ordinary' as Isagi Yoichi?

A large portion of Kaiser's fans were happy for him, but not all. They began to question every aspect of his relationship, starting with the fact that it was another man he was dating, a great player, yes, but not what they expected for their idol.

They believed that Kaiser was unattainable for someone of low status. That he was everything no one could ever be. Tall, blond, blue-eyed like the sky, porcelain skin, an innate genius, a unique prodigy in his class. So young and with all his goals and dreams fulfilled, earning a hundred times more than a veteran football player.

The tattoo of blue roses and thorns on his neck was supposed to symbolize how impossible it was for any mortal to have him. That the padlocked crown on his left hand was a clear message that no one could ever enter his heart.

In their words, he was the incarnation of an archangel on earth.

And of course, every woman's dream. That's why the comments and criticisms after the announcement of his long-term commitment to that Japanese man did not wait.

"Isagi Yoichi is very lucky."

"Isagi Yoichi is very fortunate to have someone like Kaiser at his feet."

"Isagi Yoichi doesn't deserve to be the object of love from someone as perfect as Michael Kaiser."

Those words and many others always came out in whispers whenever Isagi went out to run on the streets of Munich, have a coffee, or simply go shopping. Even among his soccer teammates. Of course, it was obvious, everyone recognized him, they knew who Isagi Yoichi was, Japan's number one striker, the tiger of Bastard München, and perhaps most importantly, the fiancé of the blue dragon of Germany.

It was more blatant and humiliating when they said it out loud if Kaiser was accompanying him. Normally, they were ignored, the couple didn't have to explain their motives or reasons for being together and loving each other to anyone.

But there were moments when Michael would give them a hateful glance, and others when he would mock them by laughing. Superficial people didn't understand until now, in that relationship, the true lucky one was him, not Yoichi.

Everyone always saw him as the embodiment of a pure ideal, but they didn't truly know him. Sometimes he wanted to shout to the world that they were mistaken, he wanted to tell them that he wasn't so perfect, that he made mistakes and had moments of breaking down.

He wanted to announce that Isagi Yoichi was the real angel there, that he was the one who saved him in every possible way.

He wanted to inform them that he wasn't as 'unattainable' as they imagined, that there were moments when he broke and only Yoichi was there to comfort him.

That no one else but Isagi Yoichi had seen him cry and fall apart after failing to score a goal, missing a pass, or letting the ball be stolen from him, that he sometimes felt a lot of pressure on his shoulders and wanted to quit, that he had moments of anxiety trying to meet stupid expectations.

If one day they asked Kaiser why he loved Isagi so much, he would tell them that he had thousands of reasons and that he could never express them properly, that there was no living being on earth that could do what Yoichi did with his soul and body.

That only he had seen him in his most vulnerable moment, that he was the only one who didn't judge him when he sobbed after having nightmares about his past, that at that moment Isagi did nothing but hold him in his arms while wiping away his tears with sweet kisses, that he never questioned him about his fears until he was ready to speak them.

That from the first moment their eyes met, he felt he would never be alone again.

The world says that Michael Kaiser is perfect, that he would never cry, that he would never make mistakes, that he would never let anyone defeat him.

They are all wrong because even the most perfect man can fall apart, that's why and much more, Kaiser believes that he is the lucky one to have someone like Isagi as his best friend, his fiancé, and soon, his husband and life partner.

That no one would ever be with him at his most deplorable moment like that egoist man would.

Sometimes Michael would simply arrive at the apartment they shared completely exhausted and the first thing he would do is tightly embrace Yoichi while feeling the beats of his heart synchronizing with his own. Kaiser knows that Isagi will always reciprocate his gestures and understand him better than anyone just by observing his actions.

That he will always protect him while listening to him and pampering him.

That no one had ever made him feel safe like he did when kissing his lips and that his scent soothed him, that Isagi would always be his anchor and that knowing what they felt for each other was mutual made him immensely happy.

That just seeing him smile was his greatest motivation to keep going.

It's those moments that make Isagi perfect in his eyes. Foolish people can believe what they want, say what they want, but nothing and no one will make Michael regret falling in love with someone like Yoichi.

Because even the most perfect man is imperfect in many ways.
