"I am always there for you."

Summary:

Khan was out at a party of his colleague, but came back drunk. Unfortunately, Khan drank too much of gasoline, which led him to a horrible state. Uzi and Khan got into a fight, so Uzi escaped before her father could hurt her. She wanted some time alone, but N came right in the middle of her breakdown. He noticed the state his friend is in and decided to comfort her as much as possible - by throwing a movie night with her in the landing pod, away from the bunker.

Notes:

This is my first work on AO3. I am deeply sorry if there are any grammar mistakes, I wrote this in a rush! I hope you enjoy. <3

Work Text:

Uzi sat in her room. She was working on her project while her father was at some kind of party hosted by his colleague. She didn't really mind that; it wasn't like he cared about her anyway. Like, come on, he cares about DOORS more than his own daughter; isn't that just amazing?

The worker drone was almost finished with the handle of the new weapon she built when, suddenly, she heard the front door's lock opening. The door to her own room was locked for privacy reasons, so she didn't bother to check. Probably her dad; nothing much. There was just one thing that she noticed, though. The footsteps sounded a bit more... heavy? She didn't know why exactly, but she had a very bad feeling about this. Even worse was that the drone was heading right towards her room.

"Uziii, it's me, your one and only fatherr..! Are you in theree?" - was heard behind the door. It sure was her father, but wait, is he drunk?

Oh no. Oh nononononono..

"Leave me alone, I am busy!" - she yelled. Even though she hated to admit it, she was nervous as hell. This is not the first time Khan drank a bit too much gasoline, and it never ended well. Either Khan just cursed her out with the worst insults possible (even worse than Uzi's or J's), or he beat her up. Gasoline is an alcoholic drink, but for drones. Only 2 cups of gasoline would already make a robot's mind foggy and blank; by Khan's voice, he sure took more than 5.

"How dare you speak to you- **hiccup** your father like this?! Get out right this instant, Uzi Doorman!" - loud banging. Uzi got scared, no, terrified. She was scared more of her drunk father than disassembly drones; that's just insane! Speaking of which, Uzi has to get out as soon as possible before her dad breaks down the door. His very own door he built, to be exact. Uzi looked around the room and- a ventilation shaft! She stood up and climbed up on top of her bed, beginning to unscrew the nails in the corners. The banging became louder, her movements more messy and shaky. Right when the door broke down, Uzi climbed in and began crawling towards the exit. Thanks to her size, she fit perfectly in, unlike her father, who was not able to get in.

"BITCH, GET BACK HERE YOU PATHETIC EXCUSE OF A CHILD!" - his shouting echoed through the ventilation; others who also have vents probably heard him. They hurt, his words hurt a lot. Of course, he may be drunk and not realize what he is saying, but isn't he right? If drones were able to cry, the floor under her would probably be wet from her tears, but now she only has small tears on her visor.

"Whoever thought of gasoline, I hope you rot in hell.." - Uzi mumbled, punching the metal wall beside her. That punch made the whole ventilation system shake, but she hadn't collapsed.

Uzi managed to climb outside. She jumped off the ventilation, landing in the perfectly fresh and clean snow. Right now, she just wanted to be as far from others as possible and wait until Khan calmed down. She walked in a random direction, completely lost in her thoughts. Tears didn't go away; instead, more formed.

"I hate everyone; I hate my dad; I hate other drones; I hate my classmates. And of course, I hate myself. I wish N killed me that da-"

Before she could finish, something landed right in front of her with a loud thud. Snow flew everywhere. That was so sudden and unexpected that Uzi fell down with a yelp, covered in snow from head to toe. Once she looked up, she noticed the drone she just spoke of, N. He looked pretty excited to see her.

"Hey, Uzi! I was just patrolling and-" - he stopped as soon as he looked her in the visor. His eyes formed into two O's, showing pure concern. Uzi never cried, not in front of him.

Uzi noticed the way he was staring and turned away, getting up.

"What are you staring at?! Go.. go away." - she yelled and covered her visor with her hands. Unfortunately, her voice gave her away. It was quiet and broken; she clearly isn't feeling well.

"Uzi.. wha-"

"I SAID GO AWAY!" - she repeated, turning towards him with a threatening glare. Only after N's tale spiked up she realized that she had scared him and took a step back.

"I- Sorry, I just.." - the poor worker drone couldn't hide it anymore; her visor once again filled with pixalated tears and she began sobbing. God, who programmed that?! N didn't think twice before taking a big step towards her and embracing her. He covered both their bodies with his wings, like he was protecting or hiding her.

"Shhh.. it's okay. Don't apologize." - N rubbed her back gently, while his visor was buried in her beanie. Uzi pulled him closer by the collar of his coat, sobbing into his chest, right where his core was. She could feel the warmth of it, how it was beating. She liked being close to him like that, warming both of their bodies.

"Mind telling me what's the matter..?" - the disassembly drone asked quietly, not pulling away. Instead, he only pulled her close, as if she were his biggest and most valuable treasure.

"I-I.. My dad he's.. he's drunk. He was shouting and.." - Uzi began, stuttering with each word. Her sobs made it even more difficult to speak, but N could clearly understand her anyway.

"Oh, I am so sorry to hear that, Uzi. Everything is okay; I am here with you now." - he smiled, leaning close to her face and kissing her forehead. The sudden contact made Uzi blush furiously. How can this drone be so fricking adorable?! He patted her head with a gentle smile.

"How about we watch a movie together? V is going to be away for the night, so we can spend sometime together to calm you down." - N suggested, putting his wings away.

"Movie night, huh? But.. all the VHS and the TV are-"

"Don't worry, me and V actually found an old TV not too far away from the landing pod. So now we have a television in our landing pod." - N spoke in a cheerful tone: "As for the VHS, we found some human movies nearby as well. I believe it's called "Titanic."

"Really? Well, let's go then." - she said, wiping the tears off her visor. Maybe spending some time with her friend will make her feel better after all, so it won't be too bad to have a movie date with N.. Uzi punched herself in the visor, causing herself to reload. Her mind is in a weird place; it's not a date after all!

N took her hand, and they both hurried to the landing pod, which is not too far away from where they currently are. The walk was silent and calm, just what Uzi needed. She didn't want to answer a bunch of questions; she was too stressed for that. Finally, after climbing inside the landing pod, she looked around. She couldn't help but gasp. Since when do they have a couch, television, and even a microwave?! Guess they really found a lot of stuff while patrolling or hunting.

N booted up the TV and took the VHS. The packaging was slightly damaged, torn in some places, and even had some mold on it. But hey, what matters is the VHS itself!

"Don't worry, I haven't watched it yet. We didn't really have time, especially after the prom." - N chuckled, inserting the tape inside the television. Uzi hummed and got herself comfy on the couch. It wasn't the best couch; it was very dirty and had some stains on it. But they are drones, after all, so it doesn't matter. As long as it's comfortable.

N scooted close beside Uzi, leaning slightly against the back of the couch. They didn't have any popped batteries to chew on, but their company was already enough. The movie began. It was pretty old. Uzi then realized she had never watched a live-action movie with humans. Sure, she saw parodies filmed by worker drones or anime, but she never saw ACTUAL humans acting in a movie. They acted much better than the worker drones, she thought. Uzi was so focused on the movie, that she didn't realize that she leaned against N's shoulder. N blushed, but he hugged her over the shoulder with a soft smile. That position was very comfortable and romantic, but no one seemed to complain.

Near the end of the movie N's visor was filled with tears. He was trying not to make any sound, but small sobs came out anyway. He looked at Uzi, who apparently was long asleep on his shoulder. N stopped moving, turning off the TV with a remote that was laying on the couch handle. He wiped his tears and carefully laid down on the couch, bringing Uzi with him. She was now right on top of him, resting against his chest. Her visor showed "Sleep Mode" and all her processors seemed to be off. He gently wrapped his tail around Uzi's leg so she wouldn't fall and would stay close to him.

"I am always there for you, Uzi"

After one last smooch on her forehead, N drifted off into sleep mode as well, cuddling Uzi close even without his power on.
