A Little Fun

Summary:

Yellow and Blue have been informed of the human tradition of diving into the ocean from the cliffs of Beach City. They decide to try it their own way, much to Yellow's chagrin and Blue's delight.

Notes:

This has been sitting on my laptop since Reunited aired, so you might as well have it. Enjoy!

Also, let's pretend the Diamonds shrank themselves to a smaller size (not human small but small enough not to be gigantic), just to make this more believable. Or just suspend your disbelief. Whatever you prefer.

Work Text:

“It will be fun.”

Blue pulled lightly at Yellow’s hands, biting on her lip to try and repress the giggle that bubbled to the surface. Yellow didn’t share her amusement. She was looking down, over the edge of the cliff, before glancing back up with a disbelieving frown.

“I doubt it,” she remarked.

Despite her protest, she hardly stopped Blue from pulling her closer. The whole idea seemed absurd but if that was what Blue wanted, Yellow would undoubtedly follow. No matter how much she refused. Besides, it had been Steven’s idea and Yellow couldn’t bring herself to disregard the suggestion. She wanted to tell him that she had done what he wanted.

Blue was watching her steadily, leaning over to kiss along her jaw. She made a small huff of frustration.

“Please, Yellow!” she groaned. “Steven says it will be fun. Don’t you want to know what it’s like?”

She rolled her eyes, studying the grass along the cliff edge as it fluttered in the breeze. Seeing the beauty, the worth of the planet had been difficult for her. Some of the experiences that she had been offered by Steven had not been enough. It continued to perplex her, no matter how much value she had tried to find there. There had been good times, no doubt, but she had despised the idea of Earth for so long, it was hard to feel anything else.

Yellow returned her attention to Blue, unable to hide a smile as she saw the familiar bottom lip jutting out. “I have jumped off something before. There’s no need to do it again, not for fun.”

“It’s a little more than jumping.” Blue batted her eyelids, clinging tightly onto Yellow’s hands. “We can make it a little more interesting, if you want.”

Frowning, Yellow scrutinised her playful expression, the way she was lowly chuckling at whatever she had in mind.

“And how do you propose to do that?”

Blue stepped back, releasing Yellow’s hands. Normally, she would have protested at the loss of contact but Yellow was genuinely curious to see where it would lead. She watched Blue saunter over to the edge, making a show of looking at the sight below, before peering over her shoulder at Yellow. Her lips curled into a grin.

“It is a concept that I learnt from humans. One of them mentioned it in passing. Vidoli or something. Vidali…” She paused, genuinely confused, before shrugging. “I can’t remember her name. She said it in such a way; it was quite scandalous really.”

Blue giggled, covering her mouth with her hand. She kept her gaze on Yellow, who was waiting for her to get to the point, arms crossed. Yet, Blue wasn’t ready to comply. It would be more amusing to draw the moment out.

As if she didn’t already know the answer, she made a point of looking around them. No other sound beside the wind. Nobody had wanted to go and they hadn’t wanted them to either. For once, they had seized the opportunity for a moment alone. Yellow was the last object she laid eyes on, the most captivating sight there. No matter how much the gems tried to convince them otherwise, Earth could never be the most beautiful thing she’d seen, not with Yellow there.

With a smirk, Blue raised her hands to her chest, flourishing them outward in a gesture as her dress dissolved into light. The breeze tickled her skin, although she did not feel the cold. The way Yellow’s eyes widened, her gaze dragging so slowly downward and then back up, was exhilarating. More so than the fact she was doing a forbidden act. If anybody else knew what she was doing, Blue would undoubtedly find herself summoned to White’s chambers.

Shaking that thought, Blue clasped her hands in front of her, swaying slightly to the side. “What do you think?”

Yellow didn’t respond immediately. Her gaze did one more sweeping look over her body before meeting Blue’s amused gaze, her eyes glinting in the light.

“Is there more to your idea than this? Surely, you won’t jump like that?”

Even as she sounded disdainful, Yellow was struggling to calm the pounding feeling in her chest. She was unsure what kind of human would do something so derogatory but she almost wanted Blue to continue.

“Why not?” Blue innocently questioned.

“Steven said we have to wear this piece of clothing. A swimsuit. He showed me a picture.”

“Well, I thought that since Steven isn’t here, we could try the other human’s way,” she giggled. “He won’t ever know.”

Yellow said nothing. She couldn’t think of what to say, licking her lips slowly to calm the warmth growing deep in her body.

With no response, Blue spun around, feeling the tip of her hair brush just above her buttocks. She didn’t need to look to know Yellow had noticed that too. Biting back a smile, she raised her arms straight in the air, pressing them together above her head. Then, bending her legs, she sprung forward and dived over the cliff edge.

Somewhere, Yellow called her name, half in surprise, half in concern. Blue was already descending swiftly through the air, welcoming the sight of the cerulean waves below. The sound of the current crashing against the white stone was comforting. She had always enjoyed water. The softness, the rage, the power. And she pierced headfirst into it, enveloped entirely by its dark depths.

Her body stopped falling after a second, her legs kicking forcefully back to the surface. She scraped her hair backwards as she looked up at the cliff above her. Yellow was staring down, somewhat disgruntled.

“You are incorrigible!” she heard Yellow yell.

“You have to do it too,” was Blue’s response.

The thought of Yellow, her athletic build amid the waves and not even clothed, flustered her. Laughing loudly, she slightly propelled herself upward, accidentally kicking her legs faster at the mental image. She reached up an arm out of the water, beckoning Yellow down.

“Come on.” When she received no response, she tried again. “I’m getting lonely down here.”

Above, Yellow straightened her back, her lips moving slightly. Imagining what she could possibly be grumbling about, Blue giggled again. The laugh died away when the figure of Yellow disappeared from sight. Tilting her head, she questioned where she had gone, prepared to call for her again. As she opened her mouth, any sound died in her throat when she saw Yellow spring from the edge. Still clothed.

“No!” Blue cried, her hand smacking the water.

In response, Yellow surrounded herself in a flash of light, her body revealed only a second before she broke through the surface. Blue let out a sound of indignation as she waited for her head to appear. When no such thing happened, her eyes scanned the water, suddenly worried something was amiss.

Fingers wrapped around her ankles and she was pulled back under the water. Kicking at Yellow, she returned to the surface, her curses muffled by the dense sea. She couldn’t see her but she felt her, hands already on her hips to pull them closer together.

“You never play fair,” she accused, lightly shoving Yellow by the shoulders.

Yellow was still laughing, a small snort escaping, before she pulled Blue against her- it was hard for Blue to argue when her lips were otherwise occupied. She could feel her body pressed against Yellow’s, trying to ignore the fact there was nothing else between them. Bringing her legs up, she wrapped them around Yellow’s waist, her arms doing the same at her shoulders. Yellow broke their kiss, her lips pressing against the droplets of water along her arms instead.

“You started it.”

Blue scoffed. “I would do no such thing.” Seeing Yellow’s brows rise, she kissed her quickly to hide her grin. “It’s all very harmless.”

“Well, you certainly have the flair for the dramatic, my dear.”

“I won’t do it again if you hated it that much.”

Yellow brushed her nose against Blue’s, their eyes studying each other closely. Her voice was barely above a whisper.

“Let’s just say that I’d follow you anywhere.” She paused, her gaze slowly lowering to the half of Blue’s chest that was visible. “Especially if you’re going like that.”

Blue made a small hum, leaning her head back as if she were thinking.

“I can do it more often then, if that’s the case.”

Before she had finished, Yellow was already kissing her, Blue letting out a small moan in surprise. They clung onto each other. Yellow’s legs were the only thing that prevented them from sinking. She knew Blue was too concerned with other things to remember that their bodies were unable to float the way other beings could.

Blue pulled back, much to Yellow’s annoyance. Her mouth opened in protest but Blue pressed a finger to her lips.

“I heard there is a cave nearby. Steven said it’s ancient. Nobody goes there because it’s hard to access, but it is possible if you swim. I suppose it would be unoccupied…”

“Do you ever think of anything else?”

Blue shrugged. “We don’t have to visit. I thought that we could spend a little time together.”

Her legs tightened their grip, her hips pressing against Yellow’s stomach. Yellow’s cheeks darkened, her gaze flitting down and then back up again.

“I mean… Yes. W-we can go.” She nodded sharply. “We can go now.”

Biting her bottom lip, Blue giggled, running her fingers through Yellow’s hair, pushing back the tendrils that were usually peaked upward. She leaned forward and lightly kissed her forehead.

“Then what are we waiting for, my sweet?” With that, she released her grip and sprang across the water. “You won’t be able to get there before me.”

A frustrated smirk twitched on Yellow’s lips, her body automatically leaping forward to follow her. She knew she could pass Blue with ease, but she supposed she could allow herself to lose if that meant her partner was happy. Even if she spent little time exploring Earth, there were more important explorations to have. Perhaps Yellow could enjoy herself more than she thought. As long as Blue was beside her.
