Chapter Text
It was lunchtime at South Park High, a usually chaotic period of the day where students would start drama and others would watch it unfold. Usually, you would be the one watching, but today, you sat alone in the gymnasium.
Your train of thought came to a new station — your boyfriend, Eric Cartman.
But, before you could dwell on your feelings for (and on) him, a voice spoke up from across the room, popping your thought bubble.
“You doin’ okay, Y/N?”
You looked over to see Kyle Broflovski standing on the other end of the gym, a genuine concern in his emerald eyes as he made his way over to you.
“.. I keep thinking Eric’s gonna change.” You sigh, the sadness and sorrow apparent in your voice as you look away and into the distance.
Kyle took a seat next to you and heaved a sigh, looking at you as he spoke
“Y/N, people like Cartman… They always make things someone else’s fault. We all wrongly see ourselves as the victim sometimes, but Cartman... He sees himself as the victim all the time. He’ll always find someone to blame for all his shortcomings. He’ll never change.”
You couldn’t help but find comfort in his words — his kind, caring tone made you feel better, and you felt as if you could truly open up to him. Before you could restrain yourself, the words you’d been trying to conceal had escaped from your lips.
“Before we started dating, I was in a really bad place. I felt.. pushed away from society. Then, this guy came along and told me all the things I needed to hear. And... I just went with it. Does that make me a bad person?”
You heaved a sigh, looking down at your feet with melancholy in your eyes. A wave of emotion overcame you, sorrow filling your soul to the brim. Tears formed in your eyes, but you were able to blink them back and keep your composure.
“No, Y/N. Good people make bad decisions every day.” Kyle responded, his words reassuring you that you were not in the wrong. You felt safe and comfortable around the redhead; his calming presence made you feel somewhat better about the whole situation.
“... I've been defending him for so long. I don't know how I'm gonna face people if I finally give up.” You sighed, feeling nothing as you spoke. Although it wasn’t evident in your expression, you felt woeful and miserable as you slowly realized how horrible Eric treated you.
Yet, you could sense that something good was hiding beyond the horizon.
