Why Are We Pretending This Is Nothing?

Notes:

Nancy is an established bisexual

Work Text:

Nancy was about to knock on Robin's apartment door when it opened, revealing the blonde, who had her phone pressed to her cheek as she

"Yeah, yeah. Be there in five. Oh, piss off. I'm sure you-ok, fine. Bye."

"Trouble at work?" Nancy asked as they walked towards Nancy's sedan.

"You could say that. It's not exactly been smooth these past few days, and Ms. Keller is losing it. Thank God Lindsey got my back."

"Who's Lindsey? A girlfriend of yours you haven't told me?" Nancy teased.

"Oh, f*ck off. As if your love life is any more successful." Robin snapped, causing Nancy to chuckle.

"True enough. Although I'm in no hurry. I mean, in my line of work, being single is the best way to move forward in your career."

"Robbie!"

Nancy and Robin turned just in time to see a redhead barrel straight towards Robin, knocking her off balance. The woman planted a loud kiss on Robin's cheek, and Nancy's eye twitched.

"Lindsey, I presume?" Nancy said. The red-haired woman faced her.

"Yep. Lindsey Burton. And you must bet the famous Nancy Wheeler. Robin speaks quite highly of you." Nancy stiffened as she sensed the bite in the other woman's tone of voice.

Robin cleared her throat, sensing the tension. "All right! Lin, let's get going. Later, Nance!"

Nancy waved as she left.

Nancy opened her laptop, sighing as she looked at her current article. Her schedule was so packed that she could only spare five to ten minutes every day to her side project, a piece tackling the scandal regarding  the solar energy company.

BLINDED BY MONEY: Sunlight Enterprise Corruption

By NANCY WHEELER, August 12, 1999

Mil

WILLAM S. LAWSON, President of Sun Energy Corporation, is on trial for allegations of tax evasion, black market connections and even drug trafficking. Several bank accounts hidden in different names have been traced, each having clear evidences of supposed crimes which connects to the president's personal account. Tens of millions of dollars of cash, along with what appears to be about forty-four pounds' worth of heroin, was found in one of the president's vacation homes.

Nancy looked at her watch. 12:15.

"Shit!" Nancy hissed. She forgot about her lunch date with Robin. Swinging her bag over her shoulder, she ran towards the elevator.

Robin tapped her fingers impatiently on the table. It was 12:30, and Nancy was still nowhere in sight.

"Don't worry, Robbie. She does seem to be the forgetful type."

Robin jerked, looking up. Lindsey was behind her seat, flicking the ends of Robin's blonde curls. Just then the woman she was waiting for arrived, out of breath.

"So sorry I'm late. I was writing an article that might probably get me killed. Oh, and is Lindsey joining us?" Nancy asked, the last part ground out through gritted teeth.

"What do you mean, it might get you killed? What exactly are you on to?" Robin asked, eyes narrowed.

'You know SunEn?"

"The solar power company? What about them?"

Nancy sighed. "Well, their president is up to no good. Tax evasion, illegal activities, that shit."

Robin pursed her lips. "And out of all topics, that's what you went for."

Nancy raised her hands defensively. "Hey, it's not up to me. How about you? You seem close with Lindsey."

"Eh, it's nothing. She's like that to everyone. Sometimes it's suffocating.
