Work Text:
Nancy and Robin were on a date when the latter cursed.
"What?" Nancy asked the blonde.
"Six o' clock, coming in hot- and here he is."
Nancy turned. Jason was standing before them, resting a hand on the backrest of Nancy's seat.
"Ladies."
"What do you want, Carver?" Nancy snapped.
"Can't a person greet his friend?"
Robin dropped her fork. "Listen f*ckwit. You were, are, nor will you ever be out friend. Now do us a big favor and f*ck off."
A muscle ticked on Jason's jaw, but he said nothing as he walked away.
"I didn't know you swear." Nancy told her girlfriend. Robin chuckled.
"Oh, honey. You never know just how many swear words I have in my mind."
Little did they know the consequences of their actions.
Robin was walking home from work, taking the alleyway as a shortcut to her and Nancy's apartment. Suddenly a mesh bag was thrown over her head. Robin tried to scream, but it was cut off as the strings were yanked, choking her.
"Do you really think," a voice snarled, "that what you did to me will go unpunished?"
Robin recognized the speaker. "Carver? What the-"
Robin cried out as her head was slammed against the brick wall, her vision spinning. She was hoisted up and slammed against the wall.
"You think I don't know what you are? Huh? That you're a dyke?"
"So what? My sexuality is none of your business." Robin snapped, then yelped as she was thrown to the ground. She made to stand up, but Jason stomped on her hand, breaking her fingers. Robin screamed, tears falling down her face.
"Shut up, bitch!" There was a muffled bang, and Robin let out another scream as Jason shot her. The bag was removed, and Robin blinked at the fading the sunlight. Jason grabbed her hair, before slamming her face twice on the dumpster.
The last thing Robin saw was Jason's shoe.
Nancy was getting worried. It was nine in the evening, and Robin still wasn't home. She dialed Steve.
"Yo, what's up?"
"Is Robin with you?"
"Uh, no. Why, she's not home yet?"
"No. She should have been back ages ago. And it's unlikely she's with her parents."
"Let's search for her tomorrow."
Thirty-six hours later, and Robin was still missing. Posters were being put up, but no one has contacted yet. Nancy, Steve, and Jonathan were looking for her on their own as well, checking the side streets and alleyways. Nothing.
"Robin?" Nancy yelled as she and Steve entered the alley. "Rob?" Silence. Nancy was about to turn back when her eyes drifted towards the dumpster nearby. Specifically, what was dangling outside the lid, prrventing it from closing. Nancy went nearer- and gasped, a hand flying to her mouth.
"STEVE!" She shouted. "STERVE, HELP!"
Steve came running towards her. "What? What is it?"
But Nancy, fingers shaking, just pointed wordlessly at the dangling hand. Or rather, the rings on the hand, and the piece of cloth tied to it. There was no doubt on the victim's identity. It was Robin.
"Look at this." Nancy said as she gave Steve the torn off part of a jacket. It was green and white.
"I know who did this." Steve said.
"Who?" Nancy asked, then it clicked.
Eighteen hours later...
The room was silent, broken only by the rhythmic beeping of the multiparameter monitor. The doctors said that the extent was severe. the doctors said. Almost all bones in her right hand was broken, and she suffered multiple concussions. She was shot on the leg twice, and a long gash ran from her temple to her chin. In short, it was a miracle she was still alive.
'Hey, Robin." Nancy said, twining her fingers against her girlfriend's. "I don't know if you can hear me but, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry I haven't been there. I'm sorry that I didn't pick you up. Pull through, honey. Please pull through." Nancy finally broke down, body wracking with loud sobs. Her hands curled into fists. I am coming for you, Jason Carver, Nancy thought, I am coming for you, and you better pray that I don't succeed.
And so the hunt began. Nancy tailed Jason for days, looking for patterns and consistencies in the man's daily schedule. She finally found one by Friday, a thirty-minute walk on the park, exactly eight in the evening. Next she came to the weapons surplus store to buy a dart gun and ammo, attaching a suppressor on the barrel. Another weapon she purchased was a pair of black brass knuckles. Once she got everything she needed, she carried out her operation.
Nancy hid behind one of the trees in the park, mask up and bonnet down as she cocked her dart gun, filling it with two rounds. Part of her ensemble were black gloves, black sweater, a pair of black sweatpants, and black sneakers. She saw a silhouette approaching, and she dared a peek. Right on time. Nancy got to her feet and fired a shot. Jason immediately collapsed, dazed.
"The f-"
Nancy pounced from behind, grabbing the larger man and yanking him down. The blond attempted to stand up, but Nancy kicked him on the back of the knee, making him lose his footing. Nancy rolled him over with a foot, then straddled him.
"This one's for Robin." Nancy hissed. Then the blows started to fall. Nancy left no part of Jason's face unscathed, punching him as hard as she could as the knuckles doubled the damage. Nancy rammed her elbow down on Jason's throat, before getting off him. Grabbing the man by the hair, she dragged him towards the tree she was hiding in and slammed Jason's face against it, before dragging it down the rough surface. Jason tried to scream, but Nancy banged his head harder. Jason unsteadily got to his feet, but Nancy kicked him between the legs. Another punch, and Jason was out. Once she was done, Nancy threw away her equipment.
