Lumos
Standard Book of Spells, Grade One.
The most basic of spells.
The caster’s wand tip will light with the incantation.
Lumos.
A lit wand tip under blankets where mischief makers plan.
Where secrets are shared.
Where broken edges are revealed.
Where nightmares are chased away.
Lumos.
Lights the way through the forest to a tree whose branches swing freely until frozen.
Where three friends chant an incantation, difficult beyond their years.
Where a werewolf howls and yearns for a pack.
Where the magic works and the pack can be together.
Lumos.
Every corner of the castle explored.
No stone left unturned.
Magical trial and error.
A map comes to life.
Lumos.
Mistakes are made.
Hearts broken and mended.
Promises sealed with tentative kisses.
The runaway seeks shelter.
The outcast opens his arms and heart.
Lumos.
Darkness gathers.
Fear clouds judgment.
Everyone is suspect, no one is safe.
The light goes out.
Lumos.
Years of loneliness.
Of misery.
Of confinement.
Only the light of the moon draws them together.
Lumos.
A hurried reunion as darkness gathers again.
The truth revealed, traitor uncovered.
Love endures, but needs time to heal.
Lumos.
The fight is more desperate after losing so much.
But still, joy.
In the younger generation, watching them thrive.
A patchwork family finds its way.
Lumos.
At last, peace in each other's arms.
Years of quiet lay ahead.
Of marriages and births.
Of life and death.
Of full moons.
A dog and wolf run in the forest, still a pack after all.
The light blots out darkness though one needs the other to exist.
