The lights were low, the popcorn was popped, and the blankets were warm in the Noceda living room. Everyone except for Hunter and Willow were out doing some shopping, and the pair had decided that the best way to spend their evening was to watch some scary movies when nobody was around to get in their way. It was scandalous and fun to them.
“Ew! Look at all that blood!” Willow laughed, placing her hand on Hunter’s chest. “It doesn’t even look real!”
Hunter chuckled and put his hand atop hers, pulling her in closer as she yelped when the killer went in to attack once more. “I don’t think it is real,” he said. “There’s different ethics here, I think.”
Willow hid behind her hands, but still peeked through her fingers. “Gus can make better illusions than that,” she commented. “It’s so silly!”
Hunter wrapped his arm around her shoulders when her hand migrated to his other hip. “I kinda like it,” he said. “It’s earnest.”
“That’s for sure,” Willow giggled, flipping onto her stomach and laying over Hunter’s lap. He pulled the blanket over her and rested his hands atop her back. “Can you pass the popcorn?”
“Sure,” Hunter said, putting the bag in front of her. They never bothered to transfer it into a bowl after removing it from the microwave. Luz told them that the oily hands were half the fun, and Hunter still had a lifetime of licking his fingers to make up for.
“Thank you,” she said.
“How can you eat while watching this?” he asked. “I feel like I’m still not desensitized.”
Willow stalled. “Do you wanna watch something else?” she asked, looking back up at him.
He started to blush. “No, no!” he said, keeping his hands on her back. “It’s just-... Gory right now. I’ve seen worse. Besides, it just means the practical effects people were doing a good job if it makes me lose my appetite.”
“That’s one thing they did right, I guess,” she said, turning on her back to look up at him. “But you know I’m okay with changing the movie, right?”
“Yeah, of course,” he said, putting a hand on her head. The screams on the screen ended and transitioned back to a quiet scene.
Willow reached into the bag of popcorn on top of her stomach and brought a piece up to Hunter’s lips. “There. No more blood,” she said, smiling when he took it from her. She could feel her heart swell when he returned the smile.
“Thank you,” he murmured once he swallowed.
Willow turned onto her side to face the screen again and wrapped her arm around Hunter’s waist behind her. “Do you mind that?” she asked.
He settled into her touch and reached over her for a handful of popcorn. “No, it’s fine,” he said, also turning his attention back to the movie they were watching. “This is really, really bad. I can’t believe I like it.”
“The best part is watching it with you,” Willow said with a smile.
