Work Text:
Cam swallowed thickly, fiddling with the cuff of his tux as he waited at the end of the aisle. He observed as his and Kenny’s family and friends rustled in their seats, the familiar song of the organ ringing throughout the hall. He saw his mom, his dad, and even his girlfriend watching intently.
Savannah sprinkled flowers down the aisle, dark red to match the gold and white accents they had chosen for the wedding. Her frilly dress twirled as she continued down, a march signifying how close Cam was to the moment he's been waiting for. He closed his eyes, mentally preparing himself for what he knew was about to come next. Anxiety plagued his mind and he inhaled deeply. As he opened them, he saw Bryn eyeing him from across where the bridesmaid stood. She smiled at him, simply giving him a thumbs up.
She probably thought it would help his nerves, but Cam was still feeling the mix of adrenaline and nausea settling in his stomach.
It’s just like the rehearsal , he thought to himself slowly, staring at the doorway intently. And then he saw him.
Kenny walked down the aisle slowly, a beautiful white wedding dress draped across his frame that trailed behind him. He took slow, tentative steps, and his face was clearly trying to hide the anxiety he felt. Cam couldn’t look away, the chords of the organ now being replaced with the sound of his heartbeat in his ears as it began to increase.
Eventually, he reached him, standing right across from him. The officiant began speaking, but honestly, Cam didn’t care unless it was something along the lines of “kiss the bride.”
He could do it right now, a smile dancing onto Kenny’s lips as he looked him in the eye. He couldn’t help but grin back.
The dude blabbered on about marriage and how important it was, but Cam couldn’t focus, instead concentrating on the actual thing he was doing right now. He was finally marrying the love of his life. He’s been waiting for this moment since the day he met him. The way his eyes crinkle when he laughs and the cute dimples that--
“I object!” A voice shouted from the crowd, breaking Cam out of his trance. He felt like his world was shattering at that exact moment. He furrowed his brows, eyes scanning the crowd as they refocused on the bright lights. In the back stood Michael, standing tall with his hand raised high.
Beside him, Kenny gave him the same look Cam was. He glanced at him for a second, sharing the same look of confusion with one another, as if silently communicating with one another the mutual, ‘what?!’ They hadn’t anticipated this.
“I don’t consent to this marriage,” Michael huffed, “you should be with me.”
Gasps rang out throughout the chapel at the dramatic declaration. Cam felt offended, and a little nervous albeit, because what if Kenny actually does like Michael more?
“…which one?” Savannah asked from where she sat, confused.
There was a beat of silence, all eyes on the objecting man as he stared at the bride and groom. “Both of them.”
“Huh?!” Kenny said, a look of pure confusion painting his features. Even louder gasps exploded, and he swears he just saw his mom pass out on the side. He felt the tips of his ears burn in embarrassment, finally peeling his gaze off of Michael and directing them back to Kenny. He was still looking at Michael, red tinting his cheeks before he eventually turned to see Cam already staring at him.
“What the fuck is happening,” he said softly, shock lacing his tone.
Cam wished he could give him a good answer. Instead, he mumbled back, “I have… no clue.”
They stared at each other for a moment, soaking in what just happened before Kenny hesitantly asked, “Do you wanna go with him?”
…
Cam thought about it. He loved Kenny with all of his heart. But...
He shrugged, “I mean…LA doesn’t sound too bad.” He tested slowly, trying to ignore the eager eyes and ears laid upon them.
Relief flooded his body as Kenny returned the grin, “Hell yeah!” Cam could feel the excitement radiating on him.
Cam whipped his head quickly towards where Michael stood, watching expectantly. He gave him a thumbs-up, a silent ‘sure,’ and took Kenny’s hand in his. They rushed towards the back, mumbles of confusion erupting around them.
They finally reached Michael, who was waiting at the end of the aisle, and he took Kenny’s other hand. Cam could feel the adrenaline running through his veins as they hurried out the doors, deserting the ceremony in a flash. He could hear footsteps pounding on the ground behind them all at once.
Quickly, he yanked them into a hallway and watched as the guests who decided to chase them ran past in a blur. He let out a sigh of relief, turning to his left to see Kenny and Michael wearing the same expression.
Michael looked up and towards them and cracked a smile. “So it was just that easy?”
“Well, to be fair,” Kenny started, leaning his back against the cold wall, “We’re not that hard to impress.”
