Work Text:
Mabel Pines sat at a party table in silence. She had been given the task by the yellow childhood bear to 'give the children their happiest day'. According to William, there were only two of them. But there was a huge issue.
What is a 'happiest day'?
She felt like she was missing out on something. Even William seemed to understand, even if it was the only thing he DID understand. He'd pestered her with questions about The Real Fredbear's words, like, "How did he know your full name?" and "What did he mean by 'your own time'?" And Mabel had skilfully avoided answering any of them. God knows what would happen to the space-time continuum if she did (Okay, maybe not 'God knows', more like, 'Time Baby knows' or 'Grunkle Ford knows', give her a break. She's trying to help some dead kids here).
She sighed, idly tapping her pen on the table as she stared at the blank sheet of notebook paper in front of her. She figured she should start somewhere, at least. She lifted her pen and wrote 'Happiest Day' in the prettiest calligraphy she could muster at the very top.
"IT WAS EASIER IN THE PREVIOUS TIMELINES. HOWEVER, NOW THERE'S NO HAPPIEST DAY ARCADE GAME AND NO DEE TO HELP." Blackjack materialised in the air beside her.
Mabel beamed. "Hi Blackjack! Do you know what The Real Fredbear meant by a happiest day, because I really feel out of the loop right now."
Blackjack blinked back at her. "IT'S JUST ALLOWING THE SOULS TO FEEL FULFILLED SO THEY CAN MOVE ON INTO THE AFTERLIFE."
"Oh, that makes sense, I thought-"
"What the fuck are you doing?"
Mabel jumped slightly, confused at the interruption. It was William. His voice was coming from the front of Fredbear's, for some reason. Blackjack looked just as confused as she did. Did the police catch them? Shoot, it had only been two days. She dropped her pen and walked to the front doors quietly, Blackjack floating behind her.
She peered through the doors before giving up and just opening them. William turned around, clearly confused and probably scared. "Mabel, what the fuck is that giant baby?" He whispered, and pointed to a sight behind him that would have scared Mabel too if she was a normal 12-year-old.
"MABEL PINES." Time Baby said, turning towards her.
"Frick, I forgot about you!"
Blackjack floated away from her, closer to William, who was staring with the most puzzled expression a living being could possibly make. "Is this just normal for you?" He asked.
"Well, a summer at Gravity Falls would do that to you."
"What is Gravity Falls?"
"YOU ARE GUILTY OF NEAR-IRREPAIRABLY DAMAGING THE PAST. TO FIX IT WOULD REQUIRE DIVINE INTERVENTION FROM MYSELF-"
"SHUT UP, YOU GIANT BABY. IF THIS WAS A BAD CHANGE, I WOULD HAVE ALERTED YOU ALREADY. THE WORLD WILL BE BETTER OFF WITH HENRY MILLER DEAD. THE ONLY MISTAKE MABEL PINES MADE WAS NOT TIME TRAVELLING TO 1924 SO SHE COULD-"
"THAT WOULD BE FAR MORE DISASTROUS. DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY CHILDREN MILLER KILLED?" Time Baby snapped.
" OF COURSE I DO. IT'S BETTER THIS WAY. THAT MAN, DIRECTLY AND INDIRECTLY, KILLED SO MANY PEOPLE. IF YOU REALLY THINK THIS IS A PART OF HISTORY THAT SHOULD BE KEPT THE SAME, THEN FIGHT ME AND WE SHALL SEE." And with that, The Real Fredbear reared and growled, charging up some kind of power.
Mabel looked up at William, who was wincing. "I have no idea who's going to win that. I mean, Time Baby was frozen in the Antarctic glacier, and those statues at Mt. Rushmore are actually robots who are- or were, I don't really know because time is confusing, supposed to fight him once or when he is released. But The Real Fredbear probably wouldn't have challenged him to a fight if it wouldn't have been at least a fair one, but right now it looks like they're about to evaporate the continent, so do you have any keys on you?" She asked him.
He looked at her, and quickly got a set of keys from his pockets, looking at her in wonder as if he was confused about what she was going to do with them. Blackjack also looked intrigued.
Quickly, because she didn't really feel like being erased in a fight between two powerful entities, she lifted the keys up and shook them, making them produce a jingling sound.
Time Baby was distracted from their fight, his laser eyes deactivating as he said, "WOAH, KEYS." Tragically, it was his last ever words spoken until the year 2973 because The Real Fredbear took the opportunity to vaporise him.
"GOOD RIDDANCE. HE SHOULDN'T BE ABLE TO PIECE TOGETHER HIS MOLECULES FOR ANOTHER 1000 YEARS, AND HE WILL BE VERY CRANKY WHEN HE DOES SO. THANK YOU FOR THE DISTRACTION, MABEL." The Real Fredbear thanked her as he faded away.
Blackjack, William and Mabel stood there in stunned silence.
"Okay, wow. I think I need a few tonnes of edible glitter."
