Chapter Text

The interviewer nervously tapped the microphone a little, coughed awkwardly in order to clear his throat, meddled a little with his way too tight tie around his neck before finally giving up and giving the movie star in front of him a flashing smile, but the movie star in question saw right through it. He was experienced at lying, at detecting discomfort at its best. After all, he was a liar himself. Because acting is kind of like lying, only paid. It was something he enjoyed, diving into different roles, wearing different characters like a coat. And the people loved it. And he? He enjoyed the attention.

It had been a few years since he was reborn into this world, 15 to be exact. He remembered his life as a sorcerer in vivid detail, all of the pain and suffering it had brought him. And then, everything went black. And before he could properly register it that he, in fact, had died for real, he blinked his eyes open once more.  Being met with a stranger’s face in a stranger’s house with hands too small to be his own. He had seen enough anime to know what exactly was going on, and the entire time he simply wondered when a godess would bestow her presence upon him to grand him out of this world powers. Except, that never happened, and instead he grew up for a second time. This time without way too high expectations for a child, without assassins trying to get his ass for simply existing, without endless training so he’d be the strongest and fulfil his clan’s expectations. This time, he could simply grow up the way he would’ve liked. Well, as far as whatever God that ruled allowed him to. He knew he had a brother, for the few times he had seen him in his very early childhood. Always a few glimpses, always too far away to properly register. Then one day, the woman who was supposed to pass as his mother and the man who was supposed to pass as his father had disappeared, and he had been picked up by strangers. He was forced to train, back then, at least for a while. Until they brought him to a doctor, until he was brought to an orphanage. He knew that the world where he was reborn in had this thing called quirks, which were essentially like some kind of super powers. And the moment those strangers had brought him to a doctor, they had found out that he didn’t posses any quirk whatsoever. And that, made him essentially useless in their eyes. So they tossed him out like old trash. But Satoru’s been a liar, he loved to deceive others and hide things. Truth is, when he had been reincarnated, he still had the techniques carved into him from his previous life. It was something he hadn’t told anyone, not that anyone would understand it anyway. But apparently a cursed technique and a quirk weren’t the same, so his test had come out as negative. It didn’t matter much, he was better off away from anyone trying to weaponise him. After all, he had much more fun like this.

He had been lucky, being scouted to star in a movie when he had managed to land himself a job at the bar as a waiter. In theory, it was illegal to hire a minor, especially a 14 years old at that time. But Satoru’s always been tall for his age, and he was a very good liar, so they had hired him without a second thought. They needed waiters, and he was surprisingly good at his job. It helped that he looked pretty, so he often got extra tips from the customers. But being a movie star had sounded more appealing than taking orders from people, so Satoru didn’t waste another second to think about the proposal. And then, a few months later, the movie was ready and playing in theatres. And it had been a hit. In order to promote his movie and gain even more acting jobs, Satoru was forced to do an interview with someone from a newspaper. It had sounded boring at first, but he soon saw the different benefits it brought him. And after all, he could just lie to any question who made him uncomfortable, right?

The interviewer had finally managed to gather his confidence together in order to ask the very first question. “Ah, uhh, hello Gojo-san.” The interviewer stuttered, each word leaving his mouth more unsure than the other, but Satoru ignored it all and simply flashed him a comforting smile. His sunglasses balancing on the bridge of his nose. “Hello.” He greeted back, the interviewer fumbled with a piece of paper before flying into the prepared questions. “So, for anyone who’s been living under a rock recently, can you tell us more about your movie?” He asked, Satoru simply nodded before the words left his lips like a raging train. “It’s about this vampire called Rory, played by me, who woke up after a 3 centuries long nap to a new and changed world where people have super powers. He’s trying to navigate his life in this world, but the people fear  him and his gruesome ability.” Satoru briefly explained without giving away any plot points. “And how would you describe the genre of this movie yourself?” The interviewer asked, Satoru let out a little laugh. “Well, it’s listed as a horror comedy movie, but I’m sure it has some kind of truth with it too. I’ve seen people being rejected from society purely based upon a quirk they had no say in, and I don’t think that’s fear. I hope that Bloody Teeth With A Side Of Massacre will help some people feel accepted by it.” Satoru smiled, the interviewer nodded. “That’s a good thought you have, but do you think that just one movie about this issue will manage to change anything in the way people act?” He asked, that made Satoru let out a little hum as he leaned back a little on his comfortable chair, then he thought for a split second as he let the words mince around his mind. “Maybe, maybe not. Still, it’s not fair towards those discriminated against, and one movie about it won’t change anything in the short run, but I’m still young. I still have time to make a change, right?” He flashed another smile, causing the interviewer to chuckle a little. “You seem like a good and positive boy, I sincerely hope I’ll see more of you in the future. Now, back to the questions.” He redirected the conversation, causing Satoru to nod.

“You’re a new star, and the world is loving you right now. Still, you’re a complete mystery to everyone, and we’d like to know, who is Satoru Gojo?” The interviewer then asked, and  the movie star simply laughed. “What would you like to know?” The words left his lips before a string of annoyed profanities could. “Well, for starters, where were you born?” He asked. “Tokyo, of course. It’s beautiful this time of year, by the way. But then again, I think it’s always beautiful there.” Satoru grinned. “Seems like you’re a long way from home.” The interviewer proceeded to comment, Satoru simply shrugged. “Well, I needed to be nearby for this interview and other things to promote the movie, but once I’m done I’m heading back! There’s no need for me to be in Fukuoka, after all.” He grinned, the interviewer took a sip of his water before proceeding with the questions.

“Are you planning on sightseeing, or are you fully booked now?” He asked, Satoru seemed to ponder that question too before he answered. “Well, I have a nearby photoshoot upcoming, a few auditions I’d like to do, and a few talks to make, but maybe I will sightsee in between that. After all, I’ve never left Tokyo before!” Satoru smiled, and the interviewer chuckled. “I’m guessing your parents weren’t keen on travelling, then?” The interviewer asked, Satoru nodded at that. “You could say they like to stay at the same place!” He grinned his teeth bare, he was more than convinced that the last few memories he did hold of the parents who brought him back into this world were nothing more than that. Memories. They probably died somewhere along those 13 years where he wasn’t with them anymore, and the parents who had given him life the first around had also long passed. So yea, they liked to stay at the exact same spot for years. “While we’re on the topic of family, any siblings?” The interviewer asked curiously, Satoru furiously shook his head. “I’m an only child, besides, you would spot someone with such good looks as me a miiiiiiilllleeeee away!” Satoru joked around, the few memories he had of a supposed brother were for him to keep. He was pretty sure that someone must’ve meddled with his memory at some point, simply because some things were more foggy than others, some things were harder to recall than usual.

“Ah, I see that our time is running out. Will we see more of you in the nearby future, Gojo-san?” The interviewer asked, Satoru nodded his head at that. “But of course! After all, I’m just getting started!” He winked, smile as bright as the sky, and the interview had come to an end.

The interview would later on be talked about for days, and some people had found some loose threads and double meanings behind the words Satoru had spoken that day. Still, he wasn’t officially asked to clarify anything, so he had simply brushed it off. The upcoming days in Fukuoka were spent for his work, trying to find new jobs and signing new contracts. For the upcoming few months he’d be busy starring in a few series, a handful of movies, and being the face of a new product. He was about to be very busy for the foreseeable future. There was no talk about sightseeing, but Satoru didn’t really mind all that. After all, he had a pair of great eyes. Besides, in his current life, he was born here. Another secret for him, another lie for the world.
