Chapter Text
“Jungkook-ah”
“Nmm.. wha..?” Jungkook wrinkles his nose and pries his eyes open to see Taehyung hovering over his face, biting his lips, face illuminated by the muted moonlight.
“Jungkook-ahhhhhh”
“Hyung-” Jungkook shifts slightly, hand groping for the clock and then turning it to squint at the digital numbers.
“Oh my god, hyung, it’s one in the morning what is it..” Taehyung squirms a little and licks his lips, face a little too close to Jungkook’s.
“I’m hungry…" whispers Taehyung. 'Had his hyung's eyes always been such a dark brown?' is all Jungkook is wondering when Taehyung's head drops onto his chest and he begins to nuzzle his neck.
"Like.. Really hungry.." mumbles Taehyung into his skin. Jungkook swallows hard, heartbeat speeding up. What exactly was this hyung getting at...
"Hungry?" He can only manage one word and even that comes out a little too high pitched for his liking.Taehyung nods and buries his face deeper into the crook of Jungkook's neck.
"Yeah like super duper duuuuper hungryyyy..." Taehyung groans, "Jungkook-ahhhhh...."
Hungry for..? Jungkook's head is spinning. He can’t concentrate on how to respond when his hyung has so little regard for personal space.
"Um.. what do you.. uh.. what are you hungry.. for..?"
It's a dangerous question. One that could open a thousand doors. But Jungkook asks it anyway because if he's honest with himself he has a tiny crush on Kim Taehyung and having to share a hotel bed with said hyung for three nights has so far been both a blessing and a curse.
Taehyung sits straight up at his question though, as alert as a dog that's spotted a squirrel.
"Burgers," Taehyung blurts out.
"Huh," Jungkook blinks his eyes rapidly. "What?"
"I uh, I want burgers?" Taehyung bites his lip again but doesn't budge from his position on top of Jungkook. Jungkook stares blankly at his hyung, thrown off by the blunt answer he wasn’t expecting. Taehyung misinterprets his expression as one of annoyance.
"C'mooooon Kook-ah. Pleeeeease?" He bumps his forehead into Jungkook's and pouts, pretty lips mere inches away from Jungkook's flushed ones.
"F-fine," Jungkook mutters, hastily pushing his delighted hyung away.Taehyung laughs and flashes him a wide smile, prancing towards the closet to pull on a jacket over his loose t-shirt. Jungkook rubs the bridge of his nose and sighs in frustration.
Damn this hot hyung and his unconscious flirting.
Taehyung half drags him out the door, and Jungkook has to pull away because, "Hyung, I'm still in my slippers." Taehyung huffs a little but sits down to tie Jungkook's shoelaces, making little bunny ears because "This is the quickest method I swear by it."
"Hyung, only kids tie it like that." Taehyung ignores him.
"Alright, Kook-ah, let's goooo," Taehyung smiles, pulling him to his feet and pushing him out the door before he can think twice about what he’s getting himself into.
"Hyung, are you even sure there's a burger place that's open right now?" Jungkook frowns as Taehyung makes sure the door has locked.
"Sure sure, there always is," Taehyung answers cheerfully and Jungkook groans.
"Hyung, are you kidd-" Taehyung turns around and slips his hand into Jungkook's, eagerly pulling him down the hall.
"Hey, we'll figure it out, yeah?" Taehyung laughs and squeezes his hand. Jungkook nods, suddenly shy, his complaint dying in his throat.
He's held Taehyung's hand before. His hyung is high maintenance and always needy for skinship, so it was more often than not that Taehyung would attach himself to Jimin or cuddle up with Hoseok or wrap his arms around Yoongi.
But Taehyung had taken a special liking to Jungkook, though Jungkook never really understood why. Maybe it was because they were the youngest. Maybe not. He didn't really know. They had great chemistry, sure. They had a lot of things in common; maybe that was what it was? They could both be loud. Taehyung was pretty random and the type to bounce around whenever he had an energy rush (which was often). And Jungkook seemed to be the only one that could match his overactive hyung. But they were both also pensive and sensitive and could be quiet at times. Taehyung seemed to understand that contrasting part of him better than anyone. How he sometimes doubted his abilities, his life choices. How the smallest things ate him up inside. His hyung always just seemed to know. And it wasn't like Taehyung necessarily did anything particularly special to make Jungkook feel better. But he was always.. there. A clap on the back. A hug. A bottle of water. And on days when that didn't seem to be enough, Taehyung would fit his body next to him in the backseat of their van, entwine his fingers with his, and sleepily murmur "You did good today, Kook-ah," before falling asleep on his shoulder. And in between those countless days, he, hard to please golden maknae Jeon Jungkook, had--
"Jungkook-ah, are you mad at me?" Taehyung is frowning openly and Jungkook realizes that they're already standing in front of the neon sign of a diner (lo behold his hyung had been right for once). How long had he been lost in his thoughts?
"Sorry, Kook-ah but like I said I was reaaaaally hungry and I-"
"Hyung, it's fine, I was just thinking, my fault. Don't say sorry, I'm not mad." Taehyung looks at him skeptically.
"I want to be here hyung," Jungkook adds. Taehyung smiles "okay" and opens the diner door and Jungkook blinks slowly.
Yeah, he wants to be here.
The waitress is asking them "how many?" and Jungkook is vaguely aware of Taehyung asking for a window seat.
'I want ..,' Jungkook repeats in his mind as he slides into a window booth. Even in his mind it scares him to complete the thought, but Taehyung has his cheek resting in his hand as he scans the menu and the glass window paints a softer reflection of Taehyung, all neon glow and street light, and then Taehyung visibly brightens a thousand watts when the waitress comes to take their order and Jungkook knows.
He's known it for years.
And he knows it even more so now.
'I want to be with Taehyung hyung.'
