Chapter Text
Luca looked at himself in the mirror, his uniform hadn't been ironed yet, what with his mother deciding to take a holiday for herself, so it looked pretty shabby. At the very least, his hair looked pretty nice. He'd tied it into a fashionable half up-half down, with the pony tail teetering more to the side of his head than the back but that was okay. He'd tried his best. He applied some vaseline on his lips and decided that was good enough. It's not like he needed to impress anyone, anyways.
Luca was one of the first to arrive at school that day. His father reluctantly dropped him off on his way to work since it was raining heavily, plus it was the first day of the school year, he didn't want to risk being late. His father hated slackers. The blonde rushed into the building, seeking warmth and safety from the rain. Unfortunately for him, his crazed running resulted in an impressive fall that made his cheeks flush a deep shade of red.
Luckily, there only seemed to be one other person around. It was a boy in his year who he'd never spoken to but had seen before whilst walking to and from school.
He had a peculiar hairstyle; short at the front with what could be described as a rats tail at the back. He also had a streak of light blonde at the front, as well as purple and magenta highlights throughout his mostly dark hair. Needless to say, he'd caught Luca's eye before, but he'd never looked at him for too long. He had long eyelashes paired with vibrant purple eyes, a delicate nose and soft lips. Luca stopped himself, realising he'd been staring at this guy for an unusual amount of time.
The boy smiled at him, giggling a little at his tragic fall. Luca blushed harder. He scrambled to his feet and speed walked towards the mens bathrooms where he proceeded to keep his head in his hands till school officially began.
Luca sat at his homeroom desk, contemplating life and thinking about that boy's mesmerising eyes-
'Yo Luca! What's up, man?' A certain ashy brunette called out. Luca smiled at him, thankful for the company.
'Hey, Mysta.. I'm doing alright.' Luca replied, his smile faltering a little. Ever since that mornings incident, he'd felt rather ashamed of himself. For both his clumsiness and the fact that he never smiled back at that boy. Luca could be quite the people pleaser, and the idea that someone even remotely disliked him sent him into a bit of a frenzy.
'Clearly not. What happened?' Mysta replied, his eyebrows drawing in concern. Luca had always thought that Mysta was excellent at reading people, and he was, but it was mostly just because Luca was an open book.
'Oh it's nothing, do you know what classes you're in yet?' Luca asked, hurriedly changing the topic. The less people that knew about his blunder the better. Mysta was none the wiser and easily committed to the change in subject.
Thankfully, the two of them ended up being in most of the same classes, only maths and science ended up being different with Luca making it into the top sets. That was one weight lifted from Luca's shoulders, he couldn't stand the idea of not knowing anyone in his classes. He wasn't someone that adjusted to change very well.
Once homeroom had ended, Mysta and Luca made their way over to their first lesson of the year: maths. Luca bid Mysta farewell and entered his classroom. He was one of the first to arrive and quickly claimed a seat at the back, next to a window. He hoped his desk mate would be someone he recognised, or even just someone nice. He decided to lay his head on the desk and wait, accidentally dosing off.
'Hey, wake up..' Whispered a quiet voice. 'Class is about to start!'
Luca opened his eyes slowly, taking in his surroundings and most noticeably the boy in front of him. It was THE boy, the one that had smiled at him earlier!
'It's you!' He yelled, his eyes widening with visual excitement as he stood up abruptly.
'Please keep the volume to a minimum Luca, unless you want to be spending lunch with me?' retorted his maths teacher, causing his class to snicker at his antics.
Both Luca and the mystery boy flushed, their embarrassment evident. Luca ashamedly sat down, he couldn't believe himself, this was the second time already that he'd acted like a fool in front of the stranger.
'Sorry.' Luca dejectedly apologised, meeting the boys eyes in an attempt to project his sincerity.
'That's okay!' the ravenette stifled a laugh, 'Whats your name? You know, since we're desk mates now..'
'Ah! Yeah! I'm Luca, Luca Kaneshiro!' He smiled widely, 'And you?'
'Shu Yamino.'
Luca walked home, it had stopped raining by the time school ended. On his way back, he caught a slither of purple in the corner of his eye. Curious, he turned his head to see properly. Low and behold, there stood the one and only Shu Yamino.
Luca contemplated talking to him, saying hi, maybe even offering to walk with him. Ultimately, he decided it was a bad idea. All he'd done so far was mess up in front of Shu. He'd probably only smiled at him and talked to him because he was polite. Luca didn't want to get ahead of himself.
'SHU!' A blue haired girl rushed up to the boy, hugging him excitedly.
'O-Oh!' Shu startled, 'Hey Elira.'
The girl was pretty, very pretty. Luca briefly wondered if she was Shu's girlfriend. The thought made his belly churn for some reason, sweat collecting at his brow as he clenched his fist.
'I was wondering if you wanted to-' Elira started before Shu interrupted her.
'Hey!! Luca!' Shu grinned, looking up at Luca who stood rather closely behind Elira, towering over her.
'Whoa- you're huge!' Elira marvelled before realising what Shu said. 'Luca? As in, Luca Kaneshiro? Shu, you know Luca Kaneshiro?'
'Uh, yeah?' Shu responded, quizzically.
Elira looked at him with wide eyes. 'Text me later!' She blurted out, before making a quick departure.
Luca decided he could question that strange interaction later, he had a reason for approaching Shu and he wasn't about to let his temporary confidence go to waste.
'Shu, do you want to walk home together?'
Shu smiled. His eyes crinkling and his cheeks dusting with pink.
'Sure.'
They chatted for what felt like hours. Luca started collecting information on Shu, which sounds creepy but Shu was just so interesting! Luca now knows that Shu has tried both cat and dog food before, that he likes sparkling water, his favourite colour is green and his birthday is May 2nd.
Despite Shu living quite a few blocks away from him, Luca walked him all the way up to his front door.
'Um Shu, can I actually get your phone number?' Luca asked, unable to meet Shu's eyes. He'd never been so nervous around someone before.
'Yeah, yeah thats fine!' Shu raised his eyebrows slightly before fumbling around in his satchel to grab his phone.
He stepped closer to Luca and read out the digits to him. Once he'd finished he looked over Luca's shoulder at his phone to double check the number was correct.
His breath tickled the shell of Luca's ear. When the blonde looked up, Shu was so close. A strand of black hair fell out of place, laying across Shu's forehead. Without thinking, Luca brushed it behind Shu's ear, startling both of them.
Luca practically yelped 'SORRY!' and Shu smiled again, looking away before meeting Luca's eyes.
They held a moment of equally flustered eye contact before Shu broke the silence.
'I'll see you tomorrow, Luca.'
