The waves rocked the large ship ever so gently as there was no storm to make the sea violent. They lapped at the dark wood as the sounds of merry men came from inside.
A celebration was occuring with a bunch of marauders singing and goofing off. Large mugs of alcohol were in everyone's hands as darts were thrown and cards were folded next to stacking coins. After a long voyage through enemy seas that could've cost them everything, they made it back with everyone in tow. This was why they partied.
The captain, with his large brimmed hat under his hand on the table in front of him, couldn't help the soft smile that creased his face as his silver's watched his crew let loose and have a good time. His other hand lifted his glass to his lips, smooth ale running down his throat and letting his mind relax, melting to think of little now that they were safe and relaxing.
However as the night ran on, he grew weary of being around his rambunctious dumbasses, so he rose from his chair, leaving a now empty glass behind, and walked carefully up the stairs to the deck, leaning on rails the entire way up. He took a deep breath as the lightly nippy harbor air hit him. It was a relief to have the quiet on deck with only the soft sounds of the waves to keep it from being unbearable. He wobbled over while having a hand on the wall to keep himself from tripping to the edge of the ship. He wanted to go over to the rail, look out over the sea he called home every time they went out of the port.
His hands wrapped around the dark wood and his silvers gazed out to the waters, seeing the ripples undulate in that calming way. As his eyes drifted over the little random details, like floating seaweeds and resting birds on the surface, he caught sight of an unusual thing on a nearby rock that jutted out of the water.
The dark slab of earth with waves crashing into the sides gently and lapped at the scaled tail bizarre creature on the rock. The fishy scaled part stretched up from thin almost see through tail fins to the hips where the scales thinned out into the skin. Dark hair, still wavy despite being wet, draped down the creature's back, drawing attention to the pale skin and upper body of what looked to be a woman.
If the captain was able to get a decent look, he would've seen the fins in place of ears, the gill slits on the neck, the lack of white in the eyes, all leading to knowing what it was. But alas, his alcohol consumption for the night made it hard for him to notice small details.
Her full eyes caught sight of him, leaning on the deck rails, her prey a few knots away. A small toothy smile parted her face as she slid herself onto her rocky perch better. Sitting up and placing her hands on her chest, she let her face soften and parted her lightly pinked lips to let out a beautiful voice. A song let her lungs, gorgeous and mesmerizing, all for this large silly human drunk on his ship. It rose and lowered like the waves of the sea that surrounded her, a lovely melody that easily captivated anyone who dared to listen.
The waves became the only thing making sound once the song was complete. The siren couldn't help her smug smirk at the thought of how wonderful a meal this silly man will be…
But, she never heard him fall overboard during her song.
Before she could look to see where he was, she heard clapping from the deck. Eyes wandering up, the large captain with tears in his eyes and a stupidly wide smile across his reddened face was clapping his hands, apparently pleased and impressed by the siren's performance.
It stunned her, looking at him with confusion. No man had resisted her song, not had anyone applaud her songs before. With all that considered, how the hell was she supposed to feel about this?
The captain had no clue this was going through her head. He just kept clapping, only pausing here and there to wipe tears off his cheeks. The song moved his soul, it felt sad, maybe lonely, but so beautiful, the most beautiful he has ever heard. This drunk man was struck right in the heart with the song and the pretty girl who sang it, literally still not catching onto the fact that she was a siren and he was supposed to be charmed overboard to be her dinner.
"That was wonderful, Miss! Thank you," the ridiculous man loudly said to her, his smile parting his face as wide as it could.
This was all so strange to her. Her cheeks flared and her heart felt like it was beating oddly fast. The embarrassment and bizarre fluster overtook her, causing her to flee, slipping into the salty waters to swim away with a mind that wouldn't stop racing.
His silver eyes watched her go, only briefly being confused as to why she left before his attention was caught by one of his crew coming up to check on him. Some minor back and forth would lead to him wandering back below the deck to play a game of cards and have his final drinks of the night. Thoughts of the pretty woman danced in his head and ultimately followed him to his room up top and into his bed, where his dreams were sweetly plagued by her and her songs, lulling him into some of the best sleep he ever had…
