Chapter Text
Riel. That was the name he was given before he was left on the doorstep of some random orphanage. He remembered his mother's sneer and his father's apathy the moment they dropped the basket without even a note. They left as if a weight had been taken off of their shoulders. Even as young as he was, he was cognitive enough to remember that moment.
Their abandonment did not deter him, however. The orphanage that raised him was kind to him. While he was different from the other children, preferring to read educational books over fairytales or cartoons, he was well taken care of. But it wasn't long before things began to go downhill.
The orphanage saw a decline in vital funds. As the years went by, it was harder and harder to manage. They had to take out loans to make ends meet, and that only got worse when their situation just kept declining.
On top of their growing debts, Riel was diagnosed with a strange disease. The simplest way to put it was that he was tired. He was so tired that even walking for a short period of time would completely exhaust him. None could find the reason for his lack of energy, but it was serious enough to affect his body. He would also often get headaches, nosebleeds, and there were even times his heart was affected.
But even though his body was physically weak, his mind was brilliant. He made many breakthroughs in science and innovation and even started an online business out of middle school. By the time he was in high school, he'd become one of the youngest millionaires, renowned for his works. Though he made sure to keep that life and his mundane life separate and secret, so no one know but the matron that had adopted him from the orphanage knew he was the creator of such things.
While he could have graduated early, he wanted to try experiencing a simple life. He had no need to go to college, as he was already qualified for many things. His condition made it so the simplest things were hard for him. If there was one thing he wanted and was willing to go through the effort for, it was graduating school like any other his age.
He took care of the orphanage with the money he made. He made sure they never had to worry about depts, and their facilities flourished under his anonymous care. Only the matron ever knew about it, and every time she tried to persuade him to use his money for himself, he refused.
He was sure that he would have turned out very differently if he'd been left anywhere else. He was grateful to the orphanage, and thus he wanted to help them. There was no changing his mind.
No, he was not kind. This was just repayment for their care over the years. That is all.
Being alive with lots of money was the best. Being able to take care of his loved ones was nice. He could be as lazy as he needed or wanted. His life didn't need a lot of activity, he made sure of it. His goal was to live a long and successful life, and while he couldn't understand or even attempt at the joys normal teens had, he was content.
Though the friends that he somehow made during his school life didn't seem to understand how great that kind of life was.
There were four individuals that he would dare to call his friends. Asao, an energetic, athletic young man who was the polar opposite of Riel; Liliana, a fujoshi who constantly shipped him with every handsome male she saw; Chen, who was an easygoing fellow with a love for food; and Datani, a quiet, lovely young miss with a knack for fashion.
How they befriended him, an antisocial bookworm of an orphan, he'd never understand.
He was certain that he was trying to avoid interacting with people because of how troublesome it was. How did this occur?
'Well, they make my life easier. I can be even more lazy with them around.'
They tried to take him to many places with them to hang out. Of course, they didn't ask him to do more than he could. They knew his condition wouldn't handle something like that. But they made it their mission to give him a normal life experience.
But they were normal teenagers, just a few years older than him as he'd skipped grades in his schooling. There wasn't much they could do aside from a few trips here and there. That in itself was rare, as his condition didn't allow for even that much activity.
But they did everything that they could, especially after they found out his short life expectancy thanks to the loose lips of an emergency doctor after a particularly bad day sent him to the hospital. After that, there was no convincing them not to coddle him.
He saw the sights at theme parks, and they took him to malls where Datani would make him her dress-up doll. Apparently, his unique looks always sparked inspiration in her creation of new looks.
Red hair, heterochromatic reddish and goldish eyes, caramel skin that was almost always slightly flushed and, even though tired, he moved with a sort of grace. They kept describing him as some sort of noble from a fantasy novel.
When their shopping ended, they'd play games and enjoy movies (usually it was just them playing and him watching or sleeping). They'd even go as far as to push him around in a wheelchair since they knew he couldn't walk for very long. Chen took him to restaurants all of their fun was had. Though everyone was pretty sure it was just his excuse to eat.
They never let him pay for anything, even though he'd told them that he had more than enough to buy such simple things. When they couldn't afford such outings, they came to the house he'd bought himself and spent time with him.
They always tried to recommend him comics or fantasy books, but he'd refuse them. His house was as dull as he was when it came to entertainment. It was to the point that they gave him such gifts on his birthday or Christmas, of course, along with the things they knew he'd enjoy reading.
Though he couldn't understand them, he kept those gifts in a treasure room, well maintained. From the simplest accessory to the collection of books he couldn't be bothered to ready, he made sure to keep them well.
He knew why they came over so often, and he knew why they spent so much for him. It was because any day, any moment, he could disappear. The simplest thing for him could be the end of his life, and by then, they knew it too. So, they resolved to try and make every day of his life enjoyable, as much as they could.
And today, just like other days, he was with them again.
"Riri, have you been feeling, okay?" Datani whispered, "Your meter has been in the yellow for a while now. Should we take you home?"
"I'm a bit tired, but I'll be fine. You're pushing me around in a wheelchair anyway." He responded. The meter was one of the things he'd created to monitor his health. It read different bits of information and sorted each instance into colors.
Green was what he considered a great day for him, though it was comparable to an elder being active. Yellow was a warning, which meant that he should rest for a bit. It was the reason they were taking him around in the wheelchair. If it dipped into Orange, then that was a bit dangerous. It was around that color that headaches and nosebleeds would often occur. If it dipped into the red, then he was in real danger of his heart having problems and should be sent to a hospital for treatment.
There was also Black, but that was a level past red that he, thankfully, had never reached before. He didn't know what would happen if his stamina dipped that low, but since anything could happen and real risks existed, he made such a level on his meter.
For a while now, his meter stayed in the yellow zone. He wasn't sure why he was getting more and more tired even though he hadn't been doing much lately. Because of his need for rest, his friends hadn't taken him out as they usually tried to as often.
They all could tell that time was running out, but no one said it aloud.
"Maybe we should take you home, bro." Asao stated, worry clear in his green eyes, "We can come to see this movie when you're feeling better."
"Yeah, I can just make us all something to eat in your giant kitchen!" Chen stated confidently, "I may love this place's meals, but I can cook 'em just as well at your place. That huge kitchen you got gets no love because you're always too tired to use it!"
"A hubby cooking for his ill wifey, ah... I love you guys." Liliana sighed, her imagination taking her to whimsical lands of bl. The men pointedly ignored her input. Quickly snapping out of her beautiful fantasy, though, she agreed with the others, "We'll just come back later when you feel better, Riel. Your health is more important to us than a movie we can just watch when it comes out more publicly."
The chorus of agreements left Riel silent for a bit. Of course, they'd mentioned his well-being being important to them multiple times, and they'd stopped many of their outings because of that reason.
There were so many things they could do easier if he wasn't like this. They shouldn't have to worry about his health. Heck, he shouldn't have to worry about his health. He hated being tired, he hated hurting, and he hated the pity in others' expressions when they learned the truth.
Riel... hated it.
For once, he decided to be a bit more open with them. "I know you've been waiting for this movie to come out for months, Asao. Every other sentence this past week has been about it."
Asao turned his head away, ears red in embarrassment, "Was I that obvious about wanting to see it?"
"Yes." Riel didn't beat around bushes. "Datani, you've been eyeing a new line of fabric for your latest clothing line ideas, have you not?"
"Yeah, how'd you...?" The young miss was surprised. Unlike Asao, she hadn't said anything about the fabrics she'd been wanting. They were on sale in the same mall, but she'd had to save up to buy them and their plan for the movie lined up just right. She finally had enough to get everything she needed, and as a plus, she could hang out with her favorite model, Riel.
"Chen, they just introduced a new dish at your favorite restaurant this week. You wanted to try it with everyone."
"I did...!" Chen had been keeping tabs on any changes to the menu. For the first time in a while, there was! And it included some of his favorite ingredients! He was eager to try it with everyone. He loved watching their eyes light up at his recommendations for food.
"What about me?!" Liliana asked eagerly. Riel had been outing everyone's hidden plans for the day, surely he had for her too, right?
"You just wanted to watch us for your mental fantasy. You have nothing better to do in life."
"Ouch, but true!"
Riel turned from them, tightening his fist, "I do not want you all to stop what you want to do because of my health. I would rather you do what you enjoy without needing to worry about how it would affect me."
Riel hated being a burden. Even with his body like this, he never wanted anyone to need to take care of him. But they were ready, willing, and happy to do so.
"Aw, Riri!" Datani gave Riel a gentle hug, "It's okay! That's what a friend is supposed to do, silly."
"A best friend is supposed to care about you like that, bro. It's called being awesome." Asao boasted, but you could see the soft look in his eyes.
Liliana definitely saw it, and was lost in fantasy again, "A kuudere's confession...?! A beautiful kuudere has confessed his love...!"
"That is not at all what he did, Lily," Chen sighed, plucking her forehead to get her back into the semi-wholesome moment she'd almost ruined. "But yeah, Riel. We're always going to take care of you. It's a choice we're happy to make, so don't worry about it, okay? We knew what we were ready for the moment we became friends with you."
Riel would never admit to cherishing them deeply. Sure, they could be hopeless, sometimes stupid, and made mistakes he'd never be able to... but they truly were people he could call family. His eyes widened as something in his chest thumped oddly at the thought.
At that moment, he made a decision. taking out his phone, he pressed a few buttons, and searched a few things, "I will make it up to you." He said simply, before hitting the send button on the text to each of their phones.
"Hm?" The moment they took a peek at it, their eyes almost bulged out of their skulls. "WHAT?!"
A fabric store's worth of materials was given to Datani. From premium materials to the latest technology and equipment for creating clothing, Riel had gotten it for her. Her dream was to open a fashion line, with her own stores and everything, and he'd given her the means to bring her ideas to life. There was even a letter of recommendation to one of her dream creators!
Riel had been gathering all of the photos that Datani had taken of her work. As he'd modeled for her, he of course had them. Because his innovations were used everywhere, he had connections and had always been working towards getting this for her.
They were impressed with her, as he knew they would, and had readily sent their letters of recommendation. With this, she would intern for them or pursue a school of her choice with full scholarships.
A VIP lifelong pass to Chen's favorite restaurants, complete with free sample rights and generous discounts. He, and anyone he goes with, will be treated like royalty and given the best of the best.
Riel, the same as he had with Datani, had connections in many places. Getting this for Chen wasn't hard at all. In fact, the restaurants were already begging him to let them do something like this for them as they often used his innovations. They thought of him as a patron, and of his friends as the ones that brought him their way.
A collection of the latest and treated BL, complete with figurines was sent to Liliana. There was even a ticket and pass to a signing event for her favorite author. All of it was booked, ordered, and prepared for her, and would be sent to her address as soon as the next day.
She was clearly happy with her gift if the crying and squealing like a pig on drugs was anything to go by.
And for Asao, he bought out the entire theater. So, along with food and snacks, whenever he wanted and with however many he wanted, he could come and watch the movie however many times he wanted on the big screen. This, of course, was complete with limited edition merch he'd never be able to buy even in his dreams.
Getting his gift for Asao was honestly the easiest thing ever for Riel. He was rolling in money he oftentimes didn't know what to do with because of his lazy lifestyle. Buying a bunch of things like this was actually refreshing for him.
Taking in their sobbing, touched, and honestly flabbergasted yet delighted faces, he gave them a smile that they rarely ever see.
"Thank you... for being my friends."
"RIEL!" They all group hugged him, all of them sobbing messes unable to comprehend what to even do with themselves. This guy just gave them their dreams and wishes! Was he a god? A god was their friend?! If the shoppers in the mall steered clear of them, they didn't care! Riel was the best!
"Ugh..." Happiness didn't seem to last very long, as his meter had gone from yellow to orange. Just from this, he was a bit dizzy. If he'd been standing, he would have collapsed on the floor.
"Oh my god, Ri!" They got off him quickly, eyes so puffy they were swollen and their faces hideous with snot and tears. Riel took out a napkin and slapped them all with it, letting them clean up. After gathering themselves for a moment, they began their trek out of the mall.
"Stop worrying already. I'll be fine. It has been dipping into the orange meter a lot lately." He reassured. Even his voice sounded tired, worrying his friends further. He tsked at their expressions, he hated worrying them.
But that meter was a warning sign that Riel needed to get in bed and do nothing, asap. They'd known him long enough, with his workaholic nature, that he would ignore that until it annoyed him with its beeping, a signal that it was a hair away from red.
He had a horrible habit of not noticing his own body's condition, that, or not caring about it in lieu of the people around him. If they were fine, a little bit of discomfort was worth it to him. It reminded them of a certain trashy red-haired count's son from a novel they'd been trying to get him to read.
"We need to get you home. Then, we will make sure you do absolutely nothing." Nothing else could happen, or it would be really bad for him.
"Sound's wonderful." Riel sighed. If they were so insistent that they were going to take care of him, he wasn't going to waste his energy to argue. Plus, despite it all, he enjoyed being able to do nothing. He always denied their claims that he was a workaholic.
Too bad today wasn't destined to end happily.
"Everybody down! Get down where I can see you!" A group of people dressed in masks and drenched in black bulldozed their way into the building. They were on every single floor of the mall, guns blazing as they got rid of all who tried resisting.
"AHHHH!"
"N-no! No, Please-!"
"Terrorists! It's a terrorist attack!"
"Run! Everyone, please ru-"
BANG!
BANG! BANG!
Something in his head began ringing. Everything was becoming blurry as his meter beeped incessantly. If others paid close attention, they'd see that it was fading from orange to red.
'So tiresome...'
The hostage situation went as one would think it did. Everyone was terrified, and his friends were desperately trying to make the situation easier on him to no avail. The police were quick to show up, trying to get the horrible happenings under control. Negotiations, crying children, some elders fainting, and the occasional stupid hero trying to save others only to either get shot at or cower at the last minute.
"Haah... Ugh..." It was absolute hell for Riel. Even more so that his friends, no, his family were involved in this. Hearing his labored breathing, they looked away from the situation to check with him and were appalled at the sight.
Blood.
A steady stream of it was dripping from his nose. His skin was paler than it already had been, and sweat was slowly building, showing the exertion that his body was experiencing.
"Riel? Riel, can you hear me?!" Asao whisper-yelled, "Try to stay awake, okay? We're going to get you out of here... somehow." He was trying to sound brave, but Riel could hear the tremble in his voice he tried to hide.
Something wasn't right with his body. This tiredness felt different than before and all of them could tell. His body was becoming weaker as time went on, and it worried them to no end. But he couldn't worry about that seeing their faces.
"I'm... fine..." He hated that they were trying to protect him even though they, themselves, were terrified. He cursed his useless body. On top of being hostages, they had to worry about him, too. He could feel his anger rise, but he kept it in check.
"No, you aren't, Ri..." Datani cried, holding onto his hands.
"What do we do?" Liliana whispered, looking around.
"What can we do...?" Chen, desperate, was doing the same.
Riel could only sigh, even that taking energy from him. They didn't think as he did. They were regular teenagers who had lives to live. Even with his body like this, his mind was the sharpest.
'I need to get them out of here...'
He was going to get them out of here. He cared for them too much.
With his tired limbs, he took turned his meter. He was careful to keep it hidden and silent as he hit a few buttons. The others silently questioned what he was doing, able to see because he was so close to them.
"What are you...?"
"Flipping everything over," Riel said, shocking them.
They didn't have time to question him as the alarm systems, along with every drone the building had that delivered packages, started attacking the terrorist. There were swarms of them, overpowering their gun power. The distraction was just enough for the authorities, which he'd contacted just beforehand, to storm in.
Most things within the mall, especially the security systems that the terrorist had tried hacking, were created in part by him. Hacking into it was simple, and getting information and alternative routes for the authorities to infiltrate and rescue them was easily something he could do.
"Riel..." His friends always knew that he was great with technology, but they hadn't realized how much that was until then.
"Who?! Who did this?! Who is-" One of the terrorists searched through the crowd, trying to find the person that ruined their plans. They'd confiscated everyone's phones and watches, anything that looked like it could be used to contact anyone outside. But this still happened.
That was when they saw a bit of red glow and spotted Riel with a tired smile on his face. He, with languid, tired movements, gave them the middle finger.
'How dare you ruin my day like this?'
That was all the evidence they needed to know who did this to them, and they, expectedly, were livid. He designed the meter as a necklace, simple and unassuming to go with his everyday attire. They hadn't been there for jewelry and even if they were, it didn't look like something that would be worth anything.
But there was nothing they could do, as they'd been caught and handled by the time they'd found out it was him.
BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP—
"Cough."
Asao, who'd been holding him and shielding him, was covered in red. "R-Riel! Riel, hang on!"
'I'm tired.'
Suddenly, the world tilted. Everything shifted, and he was hit with a wave of pure lethargy. His heartbeat painfully slow as if it was running on fumes. His lungs felt taxed, completely spent. His limbs were lead; his head was filled with cotton.
'I'll just sleep for a bit...'
"RIEL!"
"Hang on! We'll get you to a hospital! Just hang on!"
"What's happening?! It's never been this bad before!"
"The bleeding... we need to stop the bleeding! Riel!"
'Why do they sound so far away?'
He was too tired to think about it.
They were safe now. The authorities were here, the terrorist caught, and he'd given him his gifts. For some reason, he felt very content. He didn't have any plans for tomorrow, and if he should pass, he designed his company to be able to run without him. That way, the orphanage would always have money coming in, and his adoptive mother, the matron, would have an account she could use for anything she wanted. He'd set up accounts for his friends, too. It was hidden in the texts he sent with their gifts.
Everyone would be happy, and he was content with that.
"Riel! Stay awake, please!" Something warm and wet was dripping onto his face. Was it blood? No, there was a salty scent to it. Tears? Why were they crying? They knew as well as he did that a day like this was coming.
He hated that he didn't have the strength to wipe those tears away.
His meter, for the first and last time, became black.
"haaa..."
Everything seemed to stand still when Riel let out that last, deep sigh. His four friends stopped their frantic movements, listening for a breath, listening for a beat, watching for a movement of any kind... Nothing.
Black meant that there was no saving him.
.
.
.
Riel awoke in a dark, empty space. He knew that his body had given out on him. He was very much dead. As far as he could tell he didn't even have a body anymore, floating aimlessly in a void.
After spending a few minutes contemplating everything, he felt okay with this outcome. Honestly, this wasn't too bad for him. There was nothing to bother him, it was peaceful and cool, and drifting in nothing made for the most comfortable bed.
Was this the afterlife? Since he wasn't religious, he didn't really know what to expect.
'This... is actually pretty nice.'
Though such good things never seem to last for Riel. He was suddenly pulled from his new comfort and shifted through nauseous movement into a bright light. Too bright for any rest to be had, blinding and blaring.
When he regained his bearings for the second time, he could see the outline of a form low on what seemed to be marble floors. When the light finally became tolerable, there before his bodiless form was a growing person made of light, wearing a beautiful flowing robe...
Groveling at what would have been his feet.
"I'M SO SORRY!" They slid across the floor, displaying the most perfect dogeza he'd ever witnessed. "Your life was hard, wasn't it? It was all my fault! Please forgive me!"
'...What?'
"Your lethal lethargy and constant energy drain were all my fault!" The deity exclaimed. He bounded himself from the floor, landing harshly on the ground once again in the most perfect dogeza ever witnessed.
'Wait. First, explain where I am. Then, explain who you are and why this is your fault.'
They quickly sat up, recomposing themselves. With a wave of their hand, they transformed the white, empty place into a comfortable lounge. There was even a spot of tea and cakes on the table. Though they did not sit on any of the chairs they made, only lifting their head from the floor and nothing else.
"Riel Ennifer. Soul Grade: SSS. In your life before, you saved a country's worth of lives and committed countless, selflessly good deeds that should have awarded you many reincarnations worth of blissful, successful lives. But during your reincarnation in this life, your handling was taken care of by an amateur god-"
'It was you, wasn't it?' Riel may not have a body, but his mind was completely clear and sharp. 'The amateur that made my life difficult.'
"I'm so sorry!" Suddenly, they started breakdancing, spinning like a top before once again landing in a perfect dogeza, "You were my first important job, and I blew it! Because I wasn't careful enough with your soul, it took damage upon entering your next life. That is why your body could not function as well as it should have! Forgive me, please!"
'Almost dying every other day was your doing?'
Not getting up from the extreme bowing, they nodded, "See, your body was designed with your SSS prospects in mind, it was meant to be assimilated with a powerful soul. But your soul was damaged and thus didn't have the power to properly accommodate the body anymore. It was why you were always so tired and even the simplest stress could kill you."
'So, I was put in the hands of a stupid god, and the easy life I should have had, with a functioning body, was completely wasted as a result.'
"I'm so sorry!" He stacked leaped into the air, doing untold amounts of flips and martial arts moves before finishing grandly... in the most extreme and perfect dogeza bow ever witnessed. "I was foolish! I was not careful! I was completely, unfathomably, and utterly idiotic! Please forgive me!"
He could have lived his life with his friends the way he always dreamed of. He could have been like the others, able to have a nice time with them without needing to worry about dying from walking. He wouldn't have been a burden and could have grown up with peace of mind.
Of course, Riel was angry.
The life he should have had was robbed from him because of this god's mistake.
The fact that this god was apologizing this fervently only meant there was no easy way to remedy the damage. Even now, he was still tired. The damage this god caused seems to be permanent even in death.
Even in death, there was no escaping this illness. The thought left him contemplating everything.
When he was a child, he wasn't like other kids. He wasn't sure if he even had a future because he was constantly in and out of hospitals. He'd even suggested abandoning him so that the orphanage wouldn't have so much debt on top of having to care for him. Of course, they outright refused and took care of him even more fiercely after that.
All of that heartache could have been avoided if he hadn't been handed off to this stupid god for his reincarnation.
Without his wit, his life would have been a complete tragedy. The fact that he'd even made it to 15 at all was a miracle.
'Where are your superiors?'
"Um, they are in other planes of existence right now. ...Why?" He did not lift his head up to look Riel in what would have been his eyes. He stayed in his perfected dogeza, as if he practiced the form over and over for this moment.
'You aren't who I want to speak with, nor who I want anything to do with if my pitifully short life was your fault.'
Comically large pieces of stardust fell from his eyes. Those must be tears. "I know I'm incompetent, but please, not that! I did so much to try and fix the problem!" He wailed, so unbecoming of a god that Riel found himself completely disillusioned.
'Fix it how? I still died. And while my life wasn't as hard as others may be, it was still weeks before I could do anything. And every other day was a hospital visit, to the point they asked me to rent a room.'
Riel was beyond pissed. He was so angry that his soul's peaceful clear color was turning as red as his hair had been. The moment he left that void he felt his weakness return. While he didn't have to worry about dying (because he already was) he still couldn't muster up any energy to do much else.
"That's because you were such a workaholic!" They exclaimed, feeling wholly wronged, "The only reason you were able to live for this long was thanks to my intervention! You would have died so much earlier because you don't know how to take care of yourself! That's why I sent those friends of yours your way!"
'Wait... you were the reason they were so hellbent on spending time with me?' Riel found that thought extremely saddening. Were they not there for him, but because this god put thoughts in their mind?
"No, no, no!" He said this seriously, boring holes into Riel's soul with his intense gaze, "Those humans were the best souls I'd ever seen outside of yours! They cared for you deeply, and I only pointed them your way. That is how you met! Everything from there was purely them!"
That made the uneasy, saddened feeling welling within him ease slightly. When the god looked like that, he actually seemed like a holy being with authority.
"You were such a workaholic that every other day you could have died from being too tired. Your actions put so much strain on your soul that every other day was a day you could die. Heck, a sneeze that was too strong could have killed you. The fact you lived this long, once again, was because I did my best to help your soul along."
'I am not a workaholic.' Riel denied. 'How come you didn't just keep doing that, then?'
"Your soul reached its limit." He said sadly. "Even with my help, it could no longer keep your body alive. It completely ran out of juice." He sighed, "If I hadn't pulled you from your body then and there, you would have disappeared."
'Disappeared?'
"Oblivion. Gone forever. Complete Death without any hope of revival of any kind. A hopeless endeavor no god could save." The god said mercilessly. "15 years of life was the best I could give you, and your soul is even weaker than it was before because I tried to give you a halfway decent life. If I was to revive you in that body now, you would live all of 3 seconds before dying again."
Riel contemplated all of these factors. The red hue of his soul calmed down to a peaceful white. If that is what was happening, then he could understand.
'Yes... I believe you. Even now, I'm still tired. The damage you caused... seems to be permanent.'
"Maybe not! I may have a solution!" The god said enthusiastically. They scrambled to get to something, much to the irritation of the even more tired Riel. What was he doing? "Within this last year of your life, I was trying to create something. I took inspiration from those friends of yours!"
In his hands made of light was a strange object Riel couldn't hope to describe. "This beauty is The Dimension Integration Transference System! I call her Dimitra!"
'The what system? The who?'
"You know! Kinda like those transmigration systems from the manga and television shows your human friends liked so much! This system is a healing system that will bring back the abilities you had in your previous lives and integrate them into the bodies made for you in new ones! Over time, your soul will be back up to full strength, and you can finally experience the trouble-free life you were supposed to have before I messed up!"
Why did this sound like it would be tiresome...? Transmigration? Asao used to rant about it often, as it was one of the many genres he read and recommended. Though Riel seldom read any, along with any other form of entertainment aside from advanced mathematics books and creating equations.
"Every other soul that came here kept asking if they were getting 'isekai'd' or something," The god actually seemed annoyed. "How does getting hit by a truck correlate with being transported to another universe? The Truck Soul Transport doesn't even exist in this universe! They were nowhere near qualified for it anyway."
The god's eyes, like bursting rainbows of soft light, shine with stars in giddiness, "You, however, fit those qualifications ten times over! Me doing this is cleared completely, you fit every requirement! It's perfect!"
'Wait a minute... Where is this conversation going-'
"Now off you go! To save myself from being erased from existence and make up for my heinous mistake, I send you off to regain your power! You'll grow even more powerful than you were before! Isn't that great?"
'But I've never read any of those novels, I don't know what-'
"Good luck, Riel! Of course, as a soul of this kind, I will be able to contact you through Dimitra! Though not often, and I can only help you in some areas, okay? Your lives will start off as short, but they will get longer the stronger your soul becomes, okay! Don't be discouraged!"
'What? Wait, I'm not-'
Before his protests were heard though, he was once again subject to that nauseous movement through time and space. He felt his surroundings shift and flux and his body became heavier and heavier.
'I'm not an otaku! Where am I even going?!?'
