She had it.
She had had enough of this shit, of Nath being a total ass to her. Of blowing off their friendship of literal years to do... fuck if she knew!
Alix had no idea what Nath was doing with his life anymore, but she was done making excuses to his own mother for why he wasn't coming home.
While Alix raged after hanging up the phone on Nath's mom (again), Ivan worried over his fiery partner.
This whole situation with Nath had been weighing on her for so long, but it really only hit her how long its been when they got married.
Ivan has watched Alix excitedly hand over their invitation to Nath's mom. Had seen the older woman hug Alix tight, happily vowing to be her Matron of Honor. Then quietly asked if Nath knew yet.
The stack of cards in Ivan's hands had burned. He well knew they hadn't even written him one, because Alix had expected him to be here. So she could tell him in person. So he could join them in telling everyone else.
Alix's grip had tightened as she hugged her pseudo-mother.
"He knows. He's delivering the other set of invitations for me. He's doing fine."
That lie, from months ago, finally came to a head at the ceremony.
He wasn't there.
Every picture from their wedding had Alix hopefully looking around for a shock of red hair. Even chestnut hair. Just in case he stopped dying it.
She didn't know, much less Ivan. He held his new bride in their honeymoon suite as she cried into her hands.
"Ivan! Where the fuck does he get off to be such an asswipe!"
"I know... I'm sorry, 'Lix. I thought he would be here too. We tried everything. I don't know why he's not..."
"This is supposed to be my happy day and Nath is ruining it by being a bag of dicks!" Alix hiccuped, leaning on Ivan, settling into those big arms and taking comfort in them.
"I'm sorry for yelling... I'm just SO MAD!"
"And you should be, but Alix, let's think about it tomorrow. We had a busy day, let's put on a movie."
"Yeah... yeah you're right, Ivan. God, what would I do without you."
Ivan makes a visible effort of thinking, before smiling, "bully Kim?"
It works. Alix is laughing in his arms and he's soon settling her into bed with the remote.
