Work Text:

After Sukuna's defeat and the world's salvation, a year passed before Yuuji decided to embark on a solemn journey to Nanami's old home. The decision weighed heavy on his heart; revisiting the place where Nanami had once lived, the memories of his mentor's sacrifice in Shibuya still fresh in his mind. Yet, an inexplicable curiosity had gripped him, urging him to uncover the mysteries of Nanami's past.

The day he arrived at Nanami's old residence was overcast, matching the somber mood that had accompanied him throughout his journey. The house bore the quiet scars of time, a testament to the life Nanami had left behind. As he explored the rooms, Yuuji stumbled upon a collection of photographs, each a glimpse into Nanami's history.

Among the photographs, one stood out vividly. It was a wedding picture, and to Yuuji's astonishment, Nanami was the groom. He stood there, tall and stoic, beside an unknown woman. Her beauty was undeniable, with deep, rich skin, captivating light brown eyes, and elegant wavy black hair.

This revelation left Yuuji stunned. He had never known Nanami to be in a relationship, much less married. Puzzled and intrigued, he reached for his phone and contacted Gojo, his fellow Jujutsu Sorcerer, and mentor.

Gojo, too, was taken aback by the revelation. They were unaware of this mysterious woman in Nanami's life, and this newfound knowledge led to a shared determination. They needed to find her and uncover the truth behind Nanami's hidden life.

The search proved arduous and time-consuming, with only the wedding photograph as their lead. It took them to the enchanting city of New Orleans, where they were met with the vibrant rhythms of jazz and the sultry heat of the South.

As they roamed the charming streets and avenues of New Orleans, their quest brought them to a restaurant named "Tiana's Palace." The tantalizing aroma of Cajun cuisine wafted through the air, drawing them inside.

Inside the restaurant, they waited patiently, hoping to catch a glimpse of the mysterious woman from the photograph. And then, as if guided by fate, she emerged from the kitchen, carrying a tray of steaming gumbo.

Yuuji and Gojo approached her cautiously, their hearts pounding with anticipation. With a mixture of hope and anxiety, they inquired about her name and whether she knew Nanami.

The woman's eyes widened, a mixture of surprise and confusion dancing within them. She confirmed that Nanami was her husband and demanded to know how these strangers knew him.

With bated breath, they explained that they were Nanami's colleague and student, and they had important news to share. They broke the heart-wrenching truth to her, explaining how Nanami had fallen in battle while protecting his students.

Tiana's reaction was swift and visceral. She dropped the tray she was carrying, her world shattering in an instant. She refused to accept their words, vehemently denying Nanami's death. She recounted the promise they had made to each other, planning a vacation to Malaysia. In her eyes, there was no room for the possibility of his absence.

Yuuji and Gojo, compassionate yet helpless, continued to assure her of the grim reality they had faced. But Tiana remained resolute in her denial, accusing them of cruelty for coming into her restaurant and fabricating such a cruel lie about her husband.

With heavy hearts and no other choice, they left Tiana's Palace, their mission incomplete and their hearts burdened by the weight of truth and the sorrow of a grieving widow. They knew they had to return home and gather irrefutable proof of Nanami's untimely demise, for Tiana, who clung to a hope that refused to die.

Days passed, and the burden of delivering the truth to Tiana still weighed heavily on Yuuji and Gojo's hearts. They couldn't bear to leave her in a state of denial, and they knew that only irrefutable proof could shatter the wall she had built around herself.

After returning home, they collected every piece of evidence they could find regarding Nanami's demise. There were official reports, condolences from his fellow sorcerers, and even a letter he had written, addressed to Tiana, in case he didn't return from the battle.

With this substantial evidence in hand, Yuuji and Gojo returned to New Orleans, determined to bring Tiana closure, no matter how painful it might be. This time, they approached her with the undeniable proof, hoping that it would finally pierce the veil of disbelief.

They entered Tiana's Palace once more, their eyes filled with sympathy and their hearts heavy with empathy. They approached Tiana, who had been running the restaurant as if in a trance since their last encounter.

With a soft and caring tone, they explained to her that they had brought tangible evidence of Nanami's fate. They carefully laid out the documents and letters on a nearby table, presenting them to her as a final testament to the reality she had been denying.

Tiana stared at the evidence, her eyes welling up with tears as she read through the heartbreaking documents and letters. She knew the truth was undeniable, but her heart refused to accept it.

As the day wore on, Tiana continued to run her restaurant, her mind grappling with the overwhelming grief that now engulfed her. She served her patrons with an automatic grace, but her thoughts were consumed by the irrevocable loss she had suffered.

As the closing hour neared and the last customer departed, Tiana found herself alone in her restaurant. The voice in the back of her head grew louder, urging her to confront the undeniable truth that lay before her. She could not escape it any longer.

Trembling with fear and sorrow, Tiana slowly approached the table covered in the documents. With trembling hands, she began to read them once more, each word confirming what she had been told by Yuuji and Gojo.

Reality crashed over her like a relentless wave, and Tiana let out a blood-curdling scream. Her cries of anguish echoed through the empty restaurant as she crumbled to the floor, tears streaming down her face. She clung to the proof, her knuckles white as she grasped the painful truth that Nanami was truly gone.

In that moment, Tiana's heart shattered into a million pieces, and she wept uncontrollably for the love she had lost, for the promises unfulfilled, and for the future that would never be. The pain was overwhelming, and she wished with all her being that this was just a terrible dream from which she could wake, that Nanami would walk through the door, as he had promised, and they would embark on their dream vacation together.

Amidst the sea of sorrow, Tiana's trembling hands reached for the pile of documents, and she noticed a letter she hadn't seen before. It was written in Nanami's distinct handwriting, and her heart ached as she recognized his words. She carefully unfolded the letter and began to read.

"My Dearest Tiana,

As I pen down these words, I am acutely aware of the uncertainty of the battle that lies ahead. The path I have chosen is fraught with danger, and I cannot predict what the future holds. There is something I must confess, something I should have shared with you before I left.

The promise we made to each other, to embark on a vacation to Malaysia, was a dream that I held close to my heart. I longed for that day, where we could escape from the world of curses and sorcery and simply be together. But I am sorry, my love, for I have failed you.

I want you to know that I did everything in my power to keep our promise, but fate had other plans. The responsibilities I carried as a Jujutsu Sorcerer compelled me to face dangers I could not avoid. I wish with all my heart that I could have held you in my arms once more, that I could have kept my promise to you.

Tiana, please understand that my love for you has never wavered. It burns as brightly as it did the day we exchanged our vows. I am forever grateful for the time we spent together, and I cherish every moment, every smile, and every touch we shared.

I hope that you can find it in your heart to forgive me for the pain I've caused you by breaking our promise. It is a burden I carry with me as I face the unknown. Please remember that you are the love of my life, and you will always reside in the deepest chambers of my heart.

With all my love and eternal regret,

Nanami"

Tears flowed uncontrollably from Tiana's eyes as she read the heartfelt letter. It was as if Nanami's voice whispered in her ear, his sincerity and love evident in every word. The weight of his apology pressed upon her heart, and she couldn't help but forgive him, for she knew that he had not chosen this path lightly.

The realization that Nanami's sacrifice had been borne out of duty and a love that transcended life itself washed over Tiana. She clung to the letter, cradling it against her chest as if it were a piece of her beloved husband's soul.

The pain was still there, but in the midst of it, a spark of understanding and acceptance began to flicker. She knew that Nanami had given everything he had to protect the world, and he had kept his promise in the only way he could.
