Hi, everyone! As I've written in the summary, this is a what-if scenario where the Dursleys are actually nice people who treat Harry decently, which, in my opinion, would greatly affect the whole series.
On the one hand, the events would have played out differently: for example, Harry would have most likely returned home for Christmas during his first year at Hogwarts, so he might not have found the Mirror of Erised; he would have told the Dursleys about Dobby right away, or at least he wouldn't have tried to conceal him; he wouldn't have blown up Aunt Marge (who - little spoiler - will also be a nice person).
On the other hand, and much more importantly, Harry's personality would be quite different: I believe he wouldn't second-guess himself so much as he did, especially in the first book, and he wouldn't have been longing for a normal family as much, meaning that he wouldn't envy the Weasleys for their familial love. So, would he still become friends with Ron? Would they be as close? Would Molly still basically adopt him?
Answering these question, and many more, would require re-writing the entirety of the Harry Potter series, which of course I wouldn't dream of doing; rather, I've decided to focus on a few cases, which I thought would be the most interesting.
More specifically, though, I wanted to capture the psychological side of the whole matter, rather than its consequences in terms of plot. This means that I won't go out of my way to pursue every last detail of how the plot would change: going back to the example of the Mirror of Erised, Harry could very well find it after going back to Hogwarts, but what would a Harry loved by the Dursleys see in the Mirror?
I bet someone else has already explored this particular scenario, but I still wanted to have some fun by writing my version of it.
Lastly, I've never read the whole series in English and, while I'm fairly fluent (and I was taught British English, so hopefully this won't sound too off), and familiar with most of the Harry Potter series's English vocabulary, something might still sound a bit strange - for instance, I don't quite know exactly how Dobby speaks in English, although I think I have a good grasp of it. Please forgive any mistake I might make and kindly point it out.
I don't have much time to write, but I already have some ideas for this series, so I hope I'll be able to upload a new chapter every once in a while for at least some time. Thank you for reading it.
