Work Text:
We’re staring at each other. I wish I could make this moment last forever. As we sit under the rain, my shoes filling up with water, I look into Mike’s eyes.
“I think you need to go home. It’s getting late.” He says, looking down. I snap out of my trance.
“Oh. Um, yeah.” I look at my watch. “Oh, shit, yeah. It’s really late.”
“I can—I can drive you, if you want.” He offers.
“Sure. Sure, yeah.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
“Cool.”
He stands up, and I follow soon after.
He’s driving the car now, and we’re sitting besides each other, silent. I keep glancing at him, drinking in his essence. He’s so beautiful, I could stare at him forever.
“You okay?” He asks.
“Yeah, I’m fine. Why?”
“I don’t know, you just seem.. tired.”
“It’s okay.”
“You could stay over at mine if you want.”
“No, I think my mom wants me home. Wish I could though, huh?”
“Yeah, me too.”
“She’s just really overprotective now, and I get it, but..”
“But what?”
“Nothing, it’s fine. Just wish I had a little more freedom, y’know?” I look at him, and he spares me a quick glance and a smile. I look down at my lap.
“Yeah. I get it.”
“This is nice.”
“What is?”
“Just.. driving in the rain. Not having to deal with.. anything.”
“Mhm.”
We’re silent for a few more minutes and I keep looking over at him. I think he looks at me a few times, but I’m not sure. We arrive at my house, and as I get out, he stops me.
“Will, wait.”
“Yeah?”
He gets out and runs around the car to me. “I have something I need to tell you.”
“What is it, Mike?”
Silence.
“What do you have to tell me?”
He quickly puts his hands on my face, kissing me quick. I can taste and smell the rain. His lips are soft and his touch is gentle. He pulls away, leaving me in shock. He takes his hands away, but I grab them and kiss him back quick before running inside, leaving him hung up in my absence.
I sit on my bed, my face in my hands.
I hear a thump on my window.
Another.
Another.
I go to my window.
Mike.
I reach to open the door, and—
Beep! Beep! Beep!
My alarm clock goes off.
“What—?” I mutter, turning around. Before I can, though, I’m stopped.
I wake up.
