“Guys…open the door...please” Cheongsan cried, slamming his hand against the door. He could hear Gwinam chuckling behind him, but he paid no mind to it, instead focusing on calling his friends.
After another five minutes of punching the metal doors, he gave up, dropping his hands to his sides. Gwinam came up to him and took his hands, gently caressing the red knuckles.
“You can hear them, right? Talking and laughing while you are out here crying…they can hear you too, but they are just leaving you to die…in my hands, after everything you have done to keep them safe.”
Taking the bloody face of Cheongsan in his hands, he caressed the chubby cheeks, lovingly. Or so Cheongsan thought, he did not need to know the fact that all Gwinam could think right now was how heavenly he smelled. Even with the blood and dirt covering his body.
Cheongsan lifted his head and looked into Gwinam’s eyes, only then noticing how bloody the one he had stabbed looked. He raised his hand to the eye and caressed it. “Does…does it...hurt…a lot?”
Gwinam smiled. “Only a little, it's healing itself.”
“I’m sorry” Cheongsan teared up once again. Gwinam widened his eyes and hugged Cheongsan. He could feel the shorter calming down almost immediately. They stayed quietly embracing each other, only separating when a zombie ran up at them.
Gwinam quickly pushed Cheongsan behind him and growled at the zombie. It stood still for a minute before lunging at Cheongsan. Gwinam was quick to react, kicking the zombie on the stomach, it fell down the stairs onto the tarp, pulling it down, allowing all the other zombies to climb up. It was then Gwinam realized he might have fucked up.
He looked around at ways they could escape but the only down was through the window since the staircase was not an option for obvious reasons. He did not think it through before jumping out the window with Cheongsan. He only realized Cheongsan was a mere human after they were out the window. Again, he did not think it through before biting Cheongsan in the neck, though he made sure he did not bite enough to cut his airway.
This was not the way he wanted to bite Cheongsan, but it will have to do since it already happened.
When they landed on the ground, Cheongsan was passed-out on top of him. The taller pushed him off before groaning and the cracking of his bones as they moved into the right place was disturbingly loud. He looked around and noticed that the number of zombies in the field had decreased, so assuming they just went inside the school, he carried the passed-out boy and started walking towards the construction building.
After a few hours of waiting, He started to feel hungry. But that thought went away when the shorter started whimpering. He wanted to comfort the boy but even a blind man could see he did not know how to. So, he was full on panicking when the boy burst out crying while holding his crotch.
He tried gently rubbing his back but that did not seem to help much as the boy continued crying hysterically.
“Cheongsan? San-ah can you please tell me what’s wrong?” Gwinam rubbed his stomach, trying to ease the pain.
Cheongsan shook his head frantically and screamed, catching the panicked male off-guard.
“Okay... I can do this... I’ve killed people, taking care of them should not be that hard. yeah... I can totally do this!” Gwinam nodded his head, determined to help the boy out. But he too almost screamed when he noticed the pool of blood below him, with wide eyes he stood up suddenly, almost dropping the boy on his lap.
It was then he realized that the blood was coming from the crying male.
Placing the boy down, he moved to grab a piece of fabric on the ground. He used it to soak up the blood and took off his jacket, using the clean piece of clothing to stop any more blood from coming out. Realizing the fact, it was doing nothing, he picked up the boy again and ran to the nurse’s room.
Only while running, he realizes that Cheongsan too was only half zombie, just like him. It was dark now, zombies were roaming around freely, not giving a crap about the crazy male running to the nurse’s room, though they did turn their heads when they got a whiff of Cheongsan’s scent.
Arriving at the room he placed the boy on the white bed staining it blood red. He frantically searched around trying to find the heating packs. Opening and closing the cupboards, trying his best to ignore the bloody gold fishes and vomit on the ground.
Finally finding the heating packs he ran over to the boy curled up on the bed and placed them on his stomach. The bloody male calmed down slowly, and the blood flow also seemed to have slowed down.
After a good thirty minutes of whispering sweet nothings to the boy, Gwinam’s hunger seemed to have come back.
He almost scared himself half to death when his stomach growled. Cheongsan giggled and lifted himself to sit on the hungry boy’s lap. After getting comfortable he bared his neck to the boy, indicating it was okay to bite him. He nudged the shocked boy with his nose and pushed his neck towards him.
After a heated nonverbal conversation, the hungry boy gave up and bit the other male’s neck, taking a small bite.
The smaller male seemed to have wanted the taller to eat more but he disagreed and instead pulled the smaller’s face to his neck. He thought the smaller one would have taken a bite but no, instead the boy scooted closer and rubbed his face against his neck.
They stayed like that for a while before the taller pushed the boy’s face away from his neck but pulled it back almost immediately when the shorter let out a loud whine.
He stayed quiet for a minute, but his curiosity seemed to have won because before he even knew it the words were already spilling out of his mouth. “Are you scent drunk baby?”
Silence followed his words, so he just assumed the smaller had not heard him. Well at least until he replied. “You smell good…” the words were muffled by his neck, but he still heard it clearly because of his heightened hearing.
Gwinam chuckled at the non-coherent words that followed. “Are you hungry?” Feeling the boy nod his head, Gwinam bared his neck more, but the boy was hesitant to take a bite. So, sighing, he got up—carrying the boy with him.
As they moved around the school, trying to find a decent looking zombie or human, they saw Myunghwan. Now Cheongsan knew Gwinam did not have the best relationship with him, but he was not expecting him to place him down and move towards the bully.
“Yah Gwinam- oh thank- fuck- what are you doing?” Myunghwan whisper yelled at Gwinam when he started yawning and groaning loudly, attracting the zombie’s attention.
Myunghwan slapped a hand over Gwinam’s mouth to shut him up, but it only seemed to have angered him more. Because next thing he knew Gwinam was twisting his arm and a bone was peeking out from under the skin.
With bulging eyes looking at the white colored organ poking out, he placed his other hand on his mouth, preventing any sound from coming out.
He did not seem to have noticed Gwinam calling Cheongsan over because he seemed relieved when the shorter came over.
He only knew Cheongsan as the only one who could and would stand up against Gwinam. Oh, how disappointed he was Cheongsan only came up to them to give the gopher a peck on the lips. With his mouth gaping like a fish, he looked between the two half zombies, only he didn’t know they were.
He screamed loudly when Cheongsan took an unexpecting bite out of his arm. Gwinam smiled and let go of his hand to let Cheongsan have fun with his first meal. Gwinam kept the zombies away while Cheongsan ate to his heart’s content.
After a long fifteen minutes of fighting off zombies, Cheongsan finally finished eating, so both of them left the scene, leaving Myunghwan screaming and praying for mercy as more zombies bit him.
As they roamed around the school bored out of their minds, Gwinam decided to bring up the bloody situation they had a while ago.
“I don’t know actually, it felt like my insides were burning.”
Saying Gwinam choked on air would be an understatement. He would have had a stroke if he paid attention to biology class and knew how a stroke worked.
“Yeah…I think we should go check it out” The look Cheongsan gave him was enough to make him regret a lot of things he had said and done in the past.
Now as he was outside the bathroom stall waiting for Cheongsan to say something, he started to think about the ‘what ifs.’ What if something bad had happened? What if Cheongsan is hurt?
All these thoughts went away when he had an actual heart attack. His heart stopped for a full minute when Cheongsan screamed. He turned around and knocked on the door, waiting for Cheongsan to open the door. God, this feels like he is waiting for Cheongsan to finish taking a pregnancy test.
He almost fell in when Cheongsan opened the door, but he quickly regained his balance. “So? What happened?”
“Nothing happened I think, there was nothing. Not even a scratch” ok. It was normal, he was half zombie, it probably healed. Yeah, it had probably healed.
“Are you sure?” Gwinam knew that was dumb question, but he just had to ask.
“Yes, I am, I’m not stupid to not know how to identify a scratch” Gwinam nodded to himself because he himself knew that was a dumb question to ask but still it gave Cheongsan no right to be rude towards him.
“Watch your mouth pinkie” Only after Cheongsan apologized with teary eyes did he realize he had growled at him.
“Sorry force of habit” he mumbled with not even a hint of sincerity. Before Cheongsan could say anything, he grabbed the shorter by the wrist and dragged him out harshly. As the taller moved through the halls of the school with the shorter following him like a lost puppy, he realized the sound of the Shorter’s friends were oddly close. So, with no particular purpose other than making them regret what they had done to the shorter, he moved towards the sounds.
Turning around a sharp corner he stopped abruptly after noticing the group of friends huddled together. They didn’t seem to have noticed him yet, so he stayed unmoving, the shorter one soon bumped into him, stepping back with a little oof.
That little sound had seemed to have attracted Namra’s attention. She turned her head so quickly he thought she might have broken it, but he stayed quiet, watching her get everyone’s attention on them.
“Cheongsan-ah…” Hearing the voice of his first ever crush and best friend slash neighbor of more than ten years, the mentioned one looked up.
Instead of Onjo it was Suhyeok who moved forward pointedly ignoring the deadly male in front of Cheongsan. “Cheongsan…get away from him…”
Unlike how they all thought Cheongsan would react, he surprised them and the gopher by pressing himself against the gopher without a second thought. Suhyeok stopped in his place, too shocked to move. “You are choosing the one who tried to kill you over us? The people who care for you and tried to protect you?”
“No... You left him to die…and I protected him, right Sannie?” The gopher smirked at the group of friends when Cheongsan nodded his head while looking down.
When he made no move to verbally say it, Gwinam growled. “Look them in the eye and say it.”
Cheongsan nodded and looked up at Suhyeok in the eye. “You left me to die… but Nammie Hyung saved me.”
“Nammie Hyung?” Suhyeok asked Cheongsan with a raised brow.
“Yes? Need anything?” It was Gwinam with his signature smirk who answered for Cheongsan.
“Shut up gopher” Gwinam growled and moved to step forward, but Cheongsan was quick to grab his hand and intertwine their fingers.
Gwinam sighed and turned around, dragging Cheongsan with him as the rest followed him to the construction building.
Since it was still night, Gwinam put Cheongsan to sleep and cleaned him up with a rag. He smiled at the sleeping boy but once he heard the friends fake cough he put on a serious face and placed his bloody jacket on Cheongsan.
After stepping out of the building he paused, waiting for someone to say something.
“Do you like Cheongsan…?” It was Daesu who had asked the question and received a slap on the back of the head from Woojin. He could hear Daesu mumble something along the line of ‘what? It was a genuine question...’
“If you think I’m gonna let him go then yes, I’m fucking in love with him and he’s never leaving me” He chuckled darkly.
“They are gonna bomb the school” It was Onjo who spoke this time,
“I know” Gwinam had heard the people in the helicopter that was roaming around a few hours ago.
“You are gonna keep Cheongsan safe right?” ‘She seems to have missed my Cheongsan’ Gwinam thought.
He nodded. “Is that all or do you want to wait here for me to bite you?”
All of them except Onjo, Suhyeok and Namra hurried to get away from him, moving towards the forest.
“Please tell him we are sorry” Onjo bowed and looked at Namra as she made no move to leave.
“I’m gonna stay with them” Namra shocked everyone with her answer. Before they can say anything, she continued. “If I go to the quarantine camp, they’ll find out I’m not human and… I’m sorry but I don’t want to die.”
Suhyeok nodded with teary eyes and grabbed Onjo’s wrist and dragged her into the forest as she cried.
Gwinam went inside the building while Namra remained outside watching her lover leave. Once they were out of her sight, she turned around to see Gwinam coming outside with Cheongsan on his back. “We are leaving, they are gonna bomb the place in two hours. We need to get as far as we can.”
Namra nodded and the both of them started walking into the woods.
After walking for an hour or so they heard a deafeningly loud sound, causing Gwinam to drop to his knees. Cheongsan woke up and whimpered loudly. Gwinam was quick to put his hands over the Shorter’s ears, ignoring the loud sound he too was hearing.
Namra watched the scene quietly. She closed her eyes and waited until the sounds stopped.
When she opened her eyes, the scene she saw shocked her. Gwinam was gently caressing Cheongsan’s hair while mumbling sweet nothings in his ear with a loving look in his eyes.
But the scene was ruined by a loud bombing sound and strong gush of air. She smiled as she dropped to the ground. The couple’s eyes turned to her as she laid on the ground, dead with a shard of glass piercing through her heart.
