Tashigi coughed as she exited the office of marine vice admiral Smoker. It had been a year since she first started serving under him, and she still wasn’t used to the perpetual cloud of smoke that enveloped him. Smoker wasn’t the man’s real name, but everyone knew him by that nickname, since it was the most identifiable thing about him.
He was smoking all the time. Tashigi couldn’t recall a single instance in which he was not, except during the funeral of a fallen comrade. But even then, the moment the ceremony had ended and she had left the venue with her Captain, he didn’t light up just one cigar, he lit two! It was simply preposterous!
Aside from the chainsmoking, the Captain was an authoritative and incredibly competent man whom Tashigi greatly admired. Tashigi mused how interesting it would have been if cigars were the true source of his power. But alas, the Captain, who was only 36, despite what his white hair might suggest, was most probably just smoking his way into an early grave…
Although, he did have one superpower, Tashigi thought as she blinked to get rid of the stinging sensation the smoke caused in her eyes. It was his uncanny ability to transform any room with breathable air into an uninhabitable environment with a single puff of his cigar...
