Summary
The respawn machine was, at the core of it all, a product of its time. An innovation, they had said; a machine without any side effects, a perfect alternative to hiring new mercenaries, accompanied by stiff safety regulations to boot.
At the very least, that was what the public was led to believe.
It was easy to peel away the years of lies and expose the truth: Mann Co. had cut corners, and would have continued to if not for the company’s catastrophic downfall. The respawn machine had been thrown together haphazardly with funding cut in half, most of the funding needed being pulled from the worker’s paychecks directly. Safety tests hadn’t even been a thought at the time, the entire machine held together with gum and dumb luck.
The downfall, of course, had been gloriously horrific—not that it was a surprise.or
