Work Text:
Dick’s life was full of secrets. He kept secrets from his friends at school, kept secrets from his other hero friends, he even kept a few from Bruce. With civilians, he had to act differently and keep an image of Bruce Wayne’s Ward. With heroes, he had to stay serious because he was the youngest but had the most experience. They didn’t even know his name – though he felt better knowing he wasn’t the only one, with Kid Flash also keeping his identity a secret because of Flash.
It was...lonely, though. The only time he could really be himself was with Alfred, Jason, and Bruce. And, really, who wanted the only people who really knew you to be your guardians and little brother? Dick couldn’t talk about half of the subjects he wanted to simply out of embarrassment! (Jason was a thirteen year old, mean was their default.)
When Dick learned about online chat sites where he could talk to people with similar interests, he had been hesitant. But the hesitance melted away after only a few days of talking to people who liked the same shows or music. Richard Grayson couldn’t like certain bands and it would be too childish of Nightwing to like goofy cartoons, but Dick could enjoy everything he wanted. Hiding behind a profile picture and fake name, Dick was able to be himself with strangers.
He really hadn’t meant to grow attached to anyone in particular. He had just joined servers to have a fun time and talk about things he enjoyed, maybe make a few friends. But that had been it.
But, of course, a guy with a goofy science-themed username just had to catch his eye.
They had texted for months, geeking out about various topics on multiple social media sites, before Dick told his friend his real name. There had been the expected Dick joke before he was informed his friend’s name wasn’t actually UpandAtom, shockingly enough, but Wally.
(Dick elected to not tell the man that he had hacked into his account and basically knew everything about him to make sure some creepy old guy hadn’t been messaging him. The second he found out Wally was a goofy, science majoring red-head, Dick was sold.)
A few weeks after that, Wally was awkwardly confessing his affection for Dick during a call and then they had started dating. It had been a tentative action, to call Wally his boyfriend and to allow himself, in return, to be called Wally’s. Dick hadn’t sent a picture of himself to Wally yet, and Wally hadn’t either (per Dick’s request). They knew each other’s voices and talked daily for hours, Wally knew him better than half the people around him, but Dick was nervous. What would Wally think when he found out his boyfriend was famous? What if Dick wasn’t what he was imagining?
Jason, his only confidant on this matter, often told him that he was being an idiot. Dick tended to ignore him.
Dick sent a picture of himself after they hung up from a call that had lasted for a few hours. He had spent all day taking selfies and fretting over which looked best. He ended up sending one with his hair messy after a long day and his cheeks pink with embarrassment, his smile soft. It was one of his best photos, if he does say so himself.
He nervously stared at his screen until it dimmed to black before he started to gather his gear for patrol. It was only when he had gotten his uniform on and was locking the last glove into place that he got a reply.
‘Wally <3 – Do you have a crush on dick grayson or smthing, should I be jealous?’
Dick stared at the text for a moment. He slapped his face. Okay, so maybe just sending random photo of himself with no text was a bit weird.
‘Me - no, I don’t think you should be jealous seeing as that’s me.’
‘Wally <3 - ???
Wally <3 – um how?
Wally <3 – that’s not what I meant uh I mean like’
Dick watched as the three dots of Wally typing rose and fell a few times. He looked around before grabbing a hoodie from his closet, and quickly threw it over his uniform. After a moment, he took off his gloves, and was already berating himself for putting it on in the first place.
He started a face time call. Wally answered after a few long seconds. Dick watched anxiously as Wally’s face came into view, all disheveled red hair, wide green eyes, and freckle-splattered cheeks. Dick smiled shyly, chest feeling tight with anxiety.
“You have pretty hair,” Dick said.
Wally gaped at him. “Oh my God?”
“Nope, people usually call me Dick,” Dick joked.
Wally opened and closed his mouth a few times before he grinned goofily. “Wow, you’re gorgeous.”
Dick felt his face heat, and Wally’s smile seemed to grow.
“So that’s why you were nervous about pictures,” Wally mused. “I promise I’m not a gold digger.”
Dick laughed, “You wouldn’t get much off me anyways.” He said truthfully, “Bruce is the one with the money.”
“Oh, I see.” Wally nodded and joked, “So I need to go after Bruce Wayne, thanks for wasting my time.”
They both laughed. Dick smiled a bit when he saw the way Wally stared at him, something like awe in his features. As if he couldn’t believe it, though Dick didn’t blame him. No one really expected to be online dating a celebrity.
“I always thought you’d be handsome,” Wally said. “Like your voice is so hot, so I figured you’d be too but wow.”
Dick shifted a bit, his heart beating wildly in his chest. “Thanks, Wally.”
Wally grinned. Dick took in the slope of his cheekbones and the red that had been steadily leaving his face. His face was a constellation of freckles, and his eyes were so green, contrasting against his red locks. Dick thought he was beautiful.
“I really like your hair,” Dick said again. “Do you dye it?”
“Huh? Oh, no,” Wally fretted with his hair for a moment, “This is my natural color.”
“I’ve always had a thing for red heads,” Dick grinned, and Wally looked flattered more than anything.
They ended up staying on call all night, and when Dick woke up, it was to his phone a few percents away from being dead but Wally asleep on his screen and he had never smiled so much so early in the morning.
Wally’s pretty sure he’s in love. He’d thought that when he first heard Dick’s voice and again when the man made a math joke like he’d never been called a nerd a day in his life. He just got Wally in a way no one ever managed to – not even Robin, who recently started going by Nightwing — and he was Wally’s best friend. He was pretty and smart, and Wally was in love with him.
He debated going to Bludhaven the moment Dick showed Wally his face, but trying to come up with an excuse for his sudden arrival probably wouldn’t have worked how he wanted. He thought of mentioning wanting to go to Bludhaven, wanting to meet Dick in person. But he didn’t know if they were moving too fast, didn’t know if it would be weird.
He'd have to plan it ahead, so it would make sense of how he managed to get to Bludhaven
Wally ended up asking Artemis for advice.
“You started dating someone that you’ve only talked to online?” she asked incredulously, “Not even a ‘hi’ in person?”
“No,” Wally frowned at her, “Listen, I was careful, okay?”
“Did you look into him?” Artemis demanded.
Well, not as much as he should have, obviously. But he did look into his online presence, what was on his phone. Dick had come back clean and so Wally hadn’t worried about trying to look more into him.
“Obviously!” Wally insisted, “Now how do I tell him I want to see him in person?”
Artemis rolled her eyes and leaned back on the couch. “Just tell him, idiot. Say, hi babe, lets meet up, and then the rest will be history.”
“What if that’s too soon for him?” Wally worried.
Artemis raised an eyebrow, “Flash,” she said, a smirk lifting her lips, “If he even likes you remotely, which I don’t see how honestly, he’ll meet you halfway.”
“What’re you doing?”
Dick glanced over to his phone, where he had propped up against his laptop screen. Wally had called him a few minutes ago, and Dick still felt butterflies when he saw his face, watched how his eyes softened as he looked at Dick like he was the best thing in the world despite it being weeks since they started daily face time calls.
“I’m just finishing some work Bruce sent over,” Dick said as he scrolled through more case information. Bruce wanted him to prep a mission for the Team, though Dick was under no illusions that all of it would be kept.
“I thought you didn’t work for your dad?” Wally asked, looking curious.
Dick offered a slight grin, “I don’t. Have you seen him, though? Not exactly a business guy.”
“You aren’t either.” Wally said, grinning.
Dick looked at the mission details, frowned a little. “I tried to be,” he admitted, “I went to school for it and everything.”
“What happened?” Wally asked.
It was too slow; it was too fast. It wasn’t enough and yet it was too much. Dick couldn’t keep a steady job because it was never enough, and he’d always need more. He grew up in a circus, fast paced and constantly moving. Then he was leaping over rooftops and kicking guns from criminals' hands and running across the planet to do the Justice League’s work.
Nothing would ever keep him like Nightwing could.
“I wasn’t made for it,” Dick replied. “So, I left.”
“And went to Bludhaven,” Wally said.
Dick smiled, “Oh c’mon, Blud has her charms.”
Wally laughed, “You’ll have to show me around sometime.”
Dick flexed his fingers, and they were quiet for a long moment before Dick turned to his phone completely. “Do you want that?” he rushed out, “I can fly you over – Bruce-Bruce has a jet, and it wouldn’t cost you anything. I can even get you a hotel room and–”
“Dick,” Wally interrupted, and Dick’s mouth shut with a click. “I’d love that.”
Dick smiled so wide he felt like his cheeks were going to tear apart.
Wally came into Bludhaven trying to keep an open mind, but the gloom of it really made that difficult. He’d only been to Bludhaven a few times before, mostly to share a drink with Nightwing at the warehouse he chose that day or for the times he actually got his head out of his ass and called in for help (the very few times that occurred was because Nightwing couldn’t grapple away, the people he’d been fighting already down for the count, of course). Those visits had always been for Flash and Nightwing, KF and Rob. Never for Wally and whatever the hell Nightwing’s real name was.
Wally had never been here for his own personal business.
He walked out of the airport cautiously, scanning the crowds of people (because there was no way he was going to make Dick send a private jet to him, as much as the man insisted it wasn’t a big deal) for the man he was here to visit.
“Wally!” a smooth voice called, and then suddenly Wally had eyes on him.
Dick had always been beautiful, from the photos of himself that he sent to the times where they were on calls together. Sometimes Wally would slip into the speedforce just so he could stare at him for just that much longer.
But seeing him in person was different. Wally got to see how his eyes lit up and how his face flooded with a blush, and his hair flopped as he bounced in place. Wally felt like he couldn’t breathe, seeing him, being in the same room as him. Wally grinned and rushed forward, and Dick lifted his arms up like he wanted an embrace.
Wally hugged him as soon as he was able to.
“Hi,” Dick said, laughing and hugging him back.
“Hi,” Wally said into his neck. His cologne smelt intoxicating.
After a long moment, Dick pulled back. His hands stayed on Wally’s lower back, like he didn’t want them to part just as much as Wally did. After a moment, he smiled.
“You ready to blow this joint?” Dick asked, wiggling his eyebrows.
Wally laughed, “Thought you’d never ask, babe.”
Dick grabbed Wally’s luggage swiftly, tangled their hands together with his free hand, and then tugged him to the exit. Wally felt drunk on the feeling of being with him, of feeling his calloused hand in his and feeling their elbows brush as Dick swung their hands.
“How was your flight?” Dick asked, looking up at Wally through his eyelashes.
“It was good,” Wally said. He squeezed Dick’s hand, giddy, and Dick bit his lip to try to keep his smile from growing; it didn’t work.
“I’m glad you’re here,” Dick replied, voice quiet.
And here Wally thought he couldn’t get any cuter.
“I really want to kiss you,” He blurted out.
Dick stopped walking entirely. “What’s stopping you?”
Wally cupped his cheeks and leaned down, kissing him gently. Dick settled a hand on his waist, and he pulled back after a few seconds, giggling and grinning like it had been the best kiss he’d ever had.
Wally, distantly, thought that it was very easy to fall in love with him.
A few days into his trip to Bludhaven, Dick invited Wally to his apartment. The younger man seemed excited to inform Wally that he owned the building – which Wally assumed was his main source of income seeing as he didn’t accept money from Bruce Wayne – but by the time they made it to his apartment, he seemed a bit shy.
It was an open space with a small kitchen and a large living area. Wally could see Dick’s bedroom up on the loft, and there was a line of bookshelves opposite of the television stand.
“It’s not much, but.” Dick said slowly.
“I think it’s nice.” Wally replied, squeezing his hand. “You should see my place.”
Dick grinned at him, “I’d like that.”
Wally thought about Richard Grayson going to nowhere-ville Missouri and bit his lip to stifle his laughter. “I can show you around Keystone,” Wally agreed.
Dick tugged him further into the apartment and turned so he was walking backwards and pulling Wally along with him. “So, I was thinking we could make dinner together like people do in those cheesy movies?”
“Oh,” Wally said, intrigued, “That sounds romantic.”
Dick wriggled his eyebrows, “Right? Am I the best or what?”
“You are.” Wally agreed dreamily.
Dick looked enamored, his eyes softening and his lips twisting into a pretty smile. He looked at Wally like he was more than just a nerdy guy from Keystone – and while he was, you know being a Flash and all, no one really knew that. Dick didn’t know that.
“Hey,” Dick murmured, “Is it too soon to say I love you?”
Wally gasped, his heart thudding against his ribs. Dick looked up at him with wide eyes, as if he expected Wally to react any way but positively.
“I love you too,” Wally breathed. Dick squeezed his hand, beaming in return.
Dick leaned up and kissed the corner of his mouth before darting back and heading to the kitchen. Wally was thankful he wasn’t the only one flustered by such easy affection.
“What are you craving?” Dick asked, looking over his shoulder.
Wally walked over to him with a skip in his step.
(They ended up burning their dinner and ordering take out. Wally thinks it’s the best date he’s been on.)
“Okay, what’s with all your dreamy sighs?” Jason asked, sounding disgusted.
“I’m texting Wally,” replied Dick, smiling.
Jason made dramatic gagging noises and Dick rolled his eyes. Dick had gone over to Gotham to help Batman and Robin out with Scarecrow and was staying over for the weekend to spend some time with his family. He also did want to gossip about his love life with Alfred, but that was beside the point.
“Hey, c’mere.” Dick said, throwing an arm over Jason’s shoulder. Jason scrambled to escape his hold as Dick lifted his phone and raised it to take a selfie. The end product ended up blurred, Jason mid complaint as he tried to shove Dick’s grinning face away from him.
Dick giggled as he sent it to his boyfriend, and ignored Jason’s halfhearted grumbles as Wally texted his amused replies.
“Are you going to tell him?” Jason asked suddenly.
“What?” Dick replied, quirking an eyebrow.
“About us.” said Jason as he made bat-ears with his fingers.
Dick paused. “Bruce won’t even let us tell the Team.” he said dryly. “You think he’ll let me tell a civilian?”
“You’ve been dating him for months,” Jason rolled his eyes, “You trust him, don’t you?”
“Yeah,” Dick said, “But I trust the team too. You know that trust doesn’t matter.”
Jason frowned. “You’re Nightwing now, dude. No one but the Team knows that Nightwing and Robin used to be the same person. You wouldn’t be connected to us at all.”
Dick paused, his eyes widening. He hadn’t thought of it that way. Bruce’s whole thing was wanting all of their identities to be protected, but if Wally didn’t know Bruce and Jason were Batman and Robin...
“I’m going to Missouri.” Dick said quickly, standing up.
“Huh, now?” Jason asked.
“Now!” Dick agreed, hurrying to out of the room. “Bye, Little Wing, love ya!”
“Save that for your boyfriend!” Jason replied.
Dick jogged down the stairs to the Batcave, waving to a sleep-deprived Bruce as he made his way to the zeta there. He punched in his code and the area he wanted – thank God KF worked in Keystone these days – before he was teleported to the zeta there. He cautiously stepped out of the booth, and then started towards Wally’s apartment.
It was only when Dick was in the elevator of Wally’s place that he realized he hadn’t called ahead. He cursed quietly before he pulled up Wally’s contact and pressed call.
“Hello, handsome,” Wally said happily the moment he answered, “Aren’t you supposed to be bullying your little brother right about now? Did you miss me?”
“I always miss you.” Dick replied. “So, very funny question. Are you home?”
“Yes?” Wally said slowly, “Why?”
Dick smiled tightly as he stopped in front of Wally’s door. “Come open the door, babe.”
Wally made a curious sound and a second later, the door was opening. Dick tilted his head, smiling carefully, and Wally gaped at him.
“Dick?” Wally blinked a few times, “How did you get here?”
Dick took the phone from his ear, hanging up mechanically. He shifted his weight, “I have to tell you something.”
Wally looked flabbergasted before he laughed, “Okay.” he said as he stepped aside, letting Dick walk into his apartment. “I’m assuming you came here from that private jet you mentioned.”
“Something like that.” Dick replied.
He shifted a bit before speaking. “Have you heard of the hero Nightwing?” he asked.
Wally’s brow furrowed, “Yeah. Did something happen?”
“To him? No.” Dick said, shaking his head.
“Okay,” Wally said slowly, obviously confused.
“What do you think about him?” Dick blurted out.
“He seems like a decent guy.” Wally replied, his eyes narrowing a bit. “Why?”
Dick fiddled with his fingers, “Um, you see...” he trailed off before inhaling deeply.
“I’m Nightwing.”
“How did you find out I was the Flash?”
Dick froze, jaw dropping, and Wally gaped right back at him.
“You’re Flash?” Dick demanded, pointing at him.
“What do you mean you’re Nightwing?” Wally asked at the same time.
“Hold on,” Dick said, raising his hand up to his forehead. “You’re the Flash.”
“Yes,” Wally replied slowly. “You’re Rob?”
“God,” Dick muttered into his hands, moving his fingers just enough to look between them. Wally looked to be in a similar state of shock. “Oh my God. You have red hair; how did I not see it.”
“Hey,” Wally pointed at him, looking flustered and shaken, “A lot of people have red hair!”
“Not like that!” Dick threw his hands up, bemoaning. “I’m so stupid.”
“No, you’re not.” Wally frowned, paused, and then grimaced slightly. “How did you not look into me? You’re paranoid as hell!”
“I did!” Dick replied, “Secret identities, idiot!”
Wally rubbed his neck, shifting his weight. They were quiet for a while, awkwardly looking at each other. After a moment, Dick cleared his throat.
“I understand if this...ruins our relationship.” he said, trying to go for Nightwing’s detachment but not quite succeeding.
Wally looked at him sharply. “Dick, I.” he paused, inhaled a few times, “Listen. I was scared shitless about telling you I was the Flash. I meant everything that I said to you – I-I love you. And now you’re telling me you’re my best friend and that you understand the superhero business? I don’t see how this ruins anything.”
Dick could list countless reasons. Them dating could affect the mission, it could make them reckless. Dick could shut down and not let Wally in, especially when he knew that the man was in the same life as him. Wally would always worry that Dick could go out at night and return in a body bag. But.
But Dick loved him, and he wanted to be with him.
Bruce would not approve of the emotional thinking, but well, when did Dick listen to him?
“I want this.” Dick said softly and reached up. Wally tangled their fingers together instantly, faster than Dick could comprehend. He looked up, a bit uncertain, and Wally looked so relieved it made Dick feel just a bit breathless.
Wally walked forward slowly and pressed their foreheads together when Dick stepped forward in response. He cupped Dick’s cheek, a tender thing, and let out a shaky breath.
“Well, now I don’t have to wonder what your name is, anymore.” He said jokingly.
Dick smiled, reaching up to put a hand on Wally’s nape. “I never would have guess KF’s name is Wallace.”
“Oh my God, shut up.” Wally laughed, “It’s awful.”
“I think it’s cute,” Dick replied, and kissed him.
Wally let out a hum, his eyes shining when they parted. “So, you didn’t take a private jet over here?”
“I thought about it,” Dick teased. “Did you seriously take a plane when you could have just ran?”
“C’mon, I couldn’t let my civilian boyfriend know I could run faster than the speed of light.” Wally groused playfully. Then he paused, tense. “Oh my God.”
“What?” Dick asked.
“Bruce Wayne is Batman.” Wally said, very seriously.
“Yeah,” Dick said sheepishly.
“He regularly falls into fountains!” Wally replied, incredulous.
Dick laughed, “You wouldn’t expect it, right?”
“Dick.” Bruce said.
“This is Wally.” Dick replied, ignoring the glare that was slowly forming on his guardian's face. “He’s KF.”
Wally awkwardly waved.
Bruce looked severely unamused. Jason fell over with his cackles.
“Dick,” Bruce sighed, “Did you unknowingly start dating Flash.”
“No,” Dick said, “I remember asking him out.”
“What, no you didn’t.” Wally pouted, “I asked you out first.”
“No, you said you liked me, so I asked you out.” Dick replied.
Wally raised an eyebrow. Dick raised his own back.
“Anyways,” Dick said, turning back to Bruce. “He knows our identities. I told him.”
Bruce put his hand over his eyes and sighed so deeply, Dick’s pretty sure Superman heard it all the way up in space.
“Fine,” Bruce said.
Dick grinned at Wally, “That means he approves.”
Wally grinned back awkwardly. Dick squeezed his hand. “Okay, we’re going to be in my room now.”
“Door stays open!” Bruce yelled after them.
Dick giggled when Wally turned red. “Dick,” he complained.
“Not today,” Dick joked. Wally shoved his shoulder with an eye roll.
Wally let his eyes trail over Dick appreciatively. Now knowing that his boyfriend was Nightwing, Wally found that he started liking his hero suit more and more. Nightwing had always been very proud of his suit designs, and he’s had quite a few in the short time of being Nightwing. But Wally had to say, the finger stripes were very, very nice.
“Dude, why are you ogling Nightwing?” Artemis asked as she sat down next to him, a glare starting on her face. “Don’t you have a boyfriend?”
“Yeah,” Wally said.
Artemis slapped his shoulder, scowling. “Then stop staring at your best friend’s ass.”
Wally rubbed his arm, pouting a bit. “But, Arty,” he complained, “Nightwing is my boyfriend.”
Artemis paused. Wally saw the way Conner fumbled with the plate in his hand in the kitchen.
“What!?” Artemis screeched.
“Yeah,” Wally grinned, “It’s amazing.”
“You’re dating Nightwing,” Artemis uttered.
“Yeah,” Wally repeated.
“Dude, you were online dating Nightwing.” Artemis stressed.
Wally smiled at her, “Yeah, it was a shock for us both when we found out.”
Artemis looked over to where Nightwing was currently talking about a previous mission with Kaldur.
“You’re dating Nightwing,” she repeated, “The guy who’s only settings are all business or makes practical jokes at everyone’s expense.”
“He’s very sweet,” Wally replied, and felt the way his face heated. Dick honestly was a great boyfriend.
Artemis gave him a look of disbelief. Wally turned to her more, and waved Conner over when he saw the man leaning forward for the gossip.
“Okay, so,” Wally said eagerly, grinning like a fool, “This one time he sent two dozen roses to my apartment because I told him I was feeling sad and then there was a love letter attached to it.”
“Oh my God, no way,” Artemis gasped.
Wally nodded quickly and pushed his sunglasses up his nose when he felt it start to slip.
“He also leaves doodles on sticky notes all over my place when he comes over, so I find them all the time.” he said, “And I got him flowers once, and the last time I went over to his apartment, I saw that he pressed them and put them in a frame.”
Artemis looked shocked and Conner looked just as surprised.
“Nightwing?” Conner said, “The same Nightwing that covered you in glue and feathers last week?”
“Yeah,” Wally snickered. He still needed to get back at Dick for that prank.
“Wait,” Artemis said, looking eager, “That means you guys know each other’s identities? Is he hot?”
“Dude, so hot.” Wally wiggled his eyebrows. “His eyes are so pretty; you have no idea. And when he’s not in uniform, he’s so expressive, I could honestly stare at him for hours.”
“You use the speedforce to, sometimes.” Conner said. He gave Wally a flat look, “I’ve noticed.”
“I mean, yeah,” Wally said, suddenly embarrassed. If Dick found that out, Wally would never live it down.
“Awe, that’s sweet.” Dick teased, suddenly behind him. Wally jumped.
“Listening in on our very private conversations, are we?” Wally laughed. Dick smiled at him.
“I’m heading back to Gotham.” he informed, “I’ll text you later.”
“Okay,” Wally grinned, “Be safe.”
“Who do you think you’re talking to?” Dick poked his nose and then turned a sharp grin to Artemis and Conner, “You know, I got him this necklace because he’s so into Flash merch, it’s kind of weird, and he started crying because he loved it so much.”
Artemis snorted and Conner sent Wally an amused look.
“Baaaabe,” Wally complained.
Dick cackled and bent down to press a kiss to his forehead. “It had to be said, take one for the team.”
Wally groaned dramatically but moved his fingers from his eyes when Dick laughed and started to the zeta beams.
“Man,” Artemis said, “You’re gone.”
“I love him,” Wally admitted. “Learning he was Rob just made me love him more, y’know?”
“I’ll tell everyone to expect PDA,” Conner said. Wally couldn’t tell if he was joking.
When Dick came home from patrol, he was just a little exhausted. He slipped into his bedroom, closing the window behind him silently and stretched his arms out once he was standing. He flicked a nearby light on and was only mildly surprised to find Wally asleep in his bed.
If you told him a year ago that his best online friend was going to be such a huge factor in his life, Dick would have laughed at you. He watched him for a moment before he silently stalked to the washroom. He turned the water to the highest temperature possible and stepped under the spray when his uniform was peeled off.
Wally came over a lot, these days. Dick was awfully tempted to ask him to just move in already, but he knew Wally had one more year of schooling left. It would be easier to do school when he lived in the state he actually studied in. Still, Dick liked the idea of waking up to Wally always being there and coming back from patrols to find him sleeping in his bed. He wanted his apartment to be their apartment.
Dick was quick to wash the grime from his body and dry off. By the time he made it back into the bedroom, Wally was still snoring on his side of the bed (they had sides now!!) and Dick felt his heart flutter again. He slid into the bed, tucked the covers up, and then carefully nudged closer to his boyfriend. After a moment, Wally turned a bit, mumbling and his eyes squinted open.
“Did I wake you up?” Dick whispered, smiling a bit.
Wally hummed, pulling Dick into his arms and hugged him. Dick sighed contently, cuddling as close as he could, and smiled into Wally’s collarbone when he felt the other start to rub his shoulders.
“How’s patrol?” Wally mumbled.
“Good,” Dick said, “Sorry for not being here sooner.”
“S’kay,” Wally replied. He nosed Dick’s damn hair, sighed softly. “You smell good.”
“Thanks,” Dick laughed, “Go back to sleep, babe.”
“Mkay,” Wally mumbled.
Dick closed his eyes, and for a moment, he thought that he could do this for the rest of his life. Being with Wally was just too easy.
He loved it.
Three years later, Dick and Wally’s engagement party was celebrated at the Cave, and when they took their glasses off, there was a collective scream when the Team was faces with Dick Grayson and his fiancé, Wally West, who he very publicly announced months before.
