Summary
Gloria, no-name freight coordinator on the Terran homeworld, watched as the first Affini ships landed on Earth. The war was over. The weeds had won. The Accord had fallen.
Gloria doubted very much would change. She was simply trading one master for another. Once, she had been a scholar. She hoped that much would save her from the mines, or the protein slurry, or whatever they did to their subjugated races.
But she'd always wondered about the truth of the matter. She'd heard whispers from former Accord planets, transmissions on shipping frequencies speaking of a better life under the Compact.
She'd been around too long to believe life could be better.
