Chapter 1: Second Impressions

Chapter Text

“Get in there!” The hero shoves Xander into the concrete cell, making him stumble to the ground. Xander groans in pain as his tailbone grinds against his cuffs. He rises from the floor, grunting in discomfort as he begins to remove the high-tech restraints, once again. Working away at the cuffs, he makes out the voice of a familiar foe, Dexter. Xander and Dexter have strife with each other, their families constantly battling for territory in their city, just constant chaos.
“Get off of me!” he shouts, kicking one of the other heroes. He wasn’t going down without a fight. Dexter kicks the bars of the cell, yells at the staff, and destroys the cell, all within a minute. As he throws his tantrum, Xander accomplishes removing the restraints, the clicking of the cuffs catching Dexter’s attention. Dexter examines Xander and then groans
“Great, of all people, I must be trapped with you.” Dexter groans as he sits on the floor, covered in the sheet from the bed he ripped apart. An annoyed Xander rolls his eyes, “Well, you won't need to deal with me in a minute.” Xander thoroughly removes the cuffs and opens the door with a photo of the hero’s face. Dexter's eyes widened, “Wait wait wait- let me out too!”
“No! You still have your cuffs on, this entire prison will lock down.” Xander pushes Dexter back into the cell.
“Come on, man! Just let me out, or I’ll rip you apart!” Dexter screams, ramming his foot into the cell door.
“Oh, how charming of you, Now shut up or the guards will kill us!” Xander stomps on Dexter’s foot.
“Dude let me out! I’ll, I’ll pay you! Please!”
“No, you were just threatening me a second ago!”
“Please! I’ll do anything!” Zander exhales, “Fine! I’ll let you out, but be QUIET!” Xander removes his cuffs as well. They both leave their cuffs in the cell, bolting down the hallway.
“Hey! What are you doing!” The guards shout, The two men dash down the stairs.
“Shit, shit, SHIT!” Dexter pants as Xander begins working at the door.
“Hurry up Xander!”
“Don’t stress me out!” The door dings, the guards right on their tails, loading their guns.
“Let’s go!” They all run out the door, Dexter following behind Xander. After losing the guards, Xander searches the gates, finding a hole covered with leaves leading to the woods. Xander and Dexter run through the woods, and both catch their breaths.
“Thanks…” Dexter says, patting Zander’s back awkwardly.
“Ugh, you almost got us caught! And don’t touch me!”
“Whatever, where do we go now?”
“Well, you get away from me,” Xander gestures to himself.
“Man, it is so hard to be nice to you, can you at least tell me what direction to go?”
Dexter said as he watched Xander get more and more annoyed.
“Ugh, it’s even harder being nice to you” Xander places his hands on his hips.
“Just- be quiet and follow me.” The two men navigate the woods, twisting and winding through the paths.
“Why are you so irritated all the time?” Dexter asks, lightly kicking a rock.
“What?”
“I said-”
“I knew what you said,” Xander stops and stares at Dexter, narrowing his robotic eyes.
“I just- uh, what was up with that jail back there?” He puts his hands on the back of his head, sighing.
“That? That was a jail for lower-class villains, I’ve busted outta there, like, twice already.
“Lower-class, what! I am a-”
“I literally DO NOT care,” Xander says bluntly, Dexter scoffs, kicking some dirt into the air. The faint sounds of traffic are heard in the distance.
“Bye.” Xander waves and rushes off before Dexter can even thank him.

~~~~~
"Hey! Stop!" The Supers shouted as Xander sprinted through the streets, clutching a bag of money desperately. The superheroes were rapidly closing in, and poor Xander faced the prospect of ending up in jail once more. Being apprehended again could lead to a transfer to a more high-profile prison, making his escape plans even more challenging. Just as Xander raced past an alleyway, he was yanked inside by his scarf.
“Wait no I swear I have the money-” Zander panics,
“What?” Dexter holds Xander by his arms, he looks confused as hell.
“Weirdo…” Dexter jabs at him. Xander sarcastically laughs at him, “What do you need anyway?”
“Ugh, I was just trying to help you,” Dexter groans.
"I doubt that," Xander retorted, turning to leave. He had no intention of spending time with the son of the man responsible for his parent's deaths and his severe injuries. It was all for land for that ridiculous factory, with his family using their wealth for expensive lawyers to keep him out of prison. Even today, his family continues to pay hush money and acquire properties for more profit.
“You're welcome…”
“Whatever.” Xander scoffs loudly.
“I’m sure my parents land and my face is enough thanks-” Xander rolls his eyes.
“Are you going to mention that every time we encounter each other?” Dexter waves his arms in the air, his eyes widening a little.
“The only thing I don’t mind is that I hated my parents, but they were the closest thing I ever had to…” Xander’s voice trails off, he wasn’t sure why he missed his parents, they were awful to him, making his life miserable every chance they could get, The only thing they did for Xander was teach him robotics.
“If my dad is soooo guilty, why did the judge announce that he was innocent? Hmm?”
“Him having lots of money could help.” Xander rolled his eyes at Dexter’s ignorance.
“Speaking of lots of money, where did you steal that?” Dexter points at the large bag of cash that Xander is holding.
“From the bank close to that tall building” Dexter’s eyes widened and his mouth agape.
“ROYAL CROWN BANK AND ARCHIVES?!?? That is such a small amount of money for such a high-security facility, How did you manage to pull that off?” Xander backs up a little.
“I’ve stolen from there before…?” At this point, Dexter is dumbfounded, his hands on the back of his head.
“Before? BEFORE!” Xander is surprised at his reaction, “Yeah, I mean, I’ve gone in the night.” Dexter relaxes, “Dude, I’ve tried to get into place for years now! And out of the biggest banks, you steal that little?” Dexter gestures to the bag.
“Why do you even want to steal from them, I’m sure your dad could give you some money.”
“Ha! I only steal for sport,” Dexter shuts his eyes and places his hands on his hips, a grin ear to ear.
“Ok, ok, I gotta go, I need to give this to someone I owe this to.” Xander nods his head to the bag, leaving the alleyway.
