“Ughh, what am I gonna do!?” Luz griped. The young sorceress lay on the couch, notepad in hand and her mind empty as she struggled to figure out her next date idea.
“What are you doing, kid?” Eda asked, walking into the room with a glass of apple blood. She sat down in the chair next to Luz and took a sip from her drink.
“It’s my turn to plan a date for Amity and me, but I’ve got nothing….” Luz said, sitting up. “At least nothing that will live up to our last date,” She added.
“Well, what did you do for your last date?” Eda asked.
“Amity took me out for a picnic on the beach,” she explained “it was really romantic… and Amity’s a good cook, so the food was amazing too. I’m just not sure how I can beat that.”
“Luz! relationships aren’t a competition; it’s about showing that you care about each other. I’m sure Amity will love whatever you have planned for her. What ideas do you have so far?” Eda asked. Luz said nothing and handed Eda her notepad “let’s see here. So you’ve got….” Eda paused when she saw the paper was blank. “Nothing… Luz, it would help if you had something,” Eda pointed out.
“I know,” Luz cried, putting her hands over her face to hide her shame. Eda thought for a moment.
“Oh, I know!” the witch exclaimed. “On one of the first dates me and Raine had, we tried baking together; neither of us knew how to cook, so it was pretty disastrous but a memorable experience non the less,” Eda said with a smile “maybe something like that?” Luz let out a tired sigh.
“That sounds like fun, but… I don’t know, Amity’s really good at cooking, so it probably wouldn’t end up as fun,” Luz admitted.
“I know what you can do!” A high-pitched voice exclaimed. Luz looked down and saw King running to the couch, his stubby little legs carrying him at a slow pace. He made it to the sofa and hoisted himself up. “You should raid the trash cans around Bonesborow! They're full of free food no one bothered to finish! Who knows what treasures you could find!” King exclaimed, jumping up and down. Luz just gave King a blank stare.
“I’m not sure that’s Amity’s style,” Luz responded, shooting down the tiny demon’s idea.
“Suit yourself!” King sassed, “more for me!” King jumped onto Luz’s lap and did a small circle before lying down. Suddenly the door flew open, and Hooty jumped into the conversation.
“Oh, I know what you could do, Luz! You can-”
“Shut up, Hooty! We’re trying to solve a problem here!!” Eda cut the house demon off.
“I just wanted to help! Hoot! Hoot! Geez! hoot hoot!” Hooty hooted sadly and returned to his prior position.
“Ughhhh, what am I gonna do!?” Luz gripped. The situation seemed hopeless.
“Oh! I got it!!” King exclaimed, jumping out of Luz’s lap and running out of the room.
“King, I really don’t want to eat garbage,” Luz said sadly.
“No!” King yelled from the other room and came running back, holding a piece of paper. He jumped onto Luz’s lap and gave her the paper. It was a flier that said, ‘come see Al Cyanbeard performing in Bonesburrow on the night of the half moon’ next to the large text was a man with a bright blue beard with sunglasses and was wearing a tux.
“Al Cyanbeard?” Luz questioned.
“Oh yeah! Lilith and I saw him when we were kids. He’s pretty funny,” Eda chimed in. “definitely worth it! His events are a little high class, though, so you will have to dress up,” She added. Luz started to blush. An excuse to see Amity in a dress? I’m in! Luz declared internally.
“Perfect! Thanks, King!” She picked the little demon up and gave him a kiss, and ran off to her room to get ready.
A few Hours Later
Luz stood in the mirror inspecting her outfit, ensuring she was ready for the event. She decided to wear the same outfit she wore to Grom. She figured it was fancy enough.
“So, all ready for the date, kid?” Eda said behind her. Luz turned around to find Eda standing in her doorway.
“I think so,” Luz responded. “How do I look?” Eda said nothing; she waved for Luz to walk over. Luz obliged and walked over to her. Eda reached out and readjusted Luz’s collar.
“There you go!” Eda said happily, “Now that’s a young witch ready for a date!” Luz couldn’t help but smile.
“Thanks, Eda,” Luz said happily.
“Any time, kid!” Eda replied. Luz smiled and gave Eda a quick hug.
“Hoot, Hoot! A guest has arrived! Hoot, Hoot!” Hooty hooted from outside.
“Amity! Oh, Cramity! She’s here!” Luz exclaimed and ran for the door. “By Eda! Thanks, Eda!” she shouted and disappeared to the basement. Eda laughed at the young witches’ excitement. Once Luz was gone, King popped out of Eda’s hair holding a fork and knife.
“Ready to go garbage picking!?” He asked, bouncing with excitement.
“You know I am!” Eda said excitedly, summoning Owlbert. Owlbert flew into her hand, and the duo left to go trash-picking.
Luz sped down the stairs running for the door to greet her girlfriend. She made it to the door and reached for the doorknob. She couldn’t help but think, oh, Titan; I hope she likes this… Just remember what Eda said ‘relationships aren’t a competition’ She took a deep breath and opened the door, revealing her beautiful girlfriend standing behind the door.
“Hey, Luz!” Amity said with a smile and a small wave. She was wearing her Grom dress as well. Luz couldn’t help but blush at the sight.
“H-Hey, Amity!” Luz said with a smile “you ready to go?” she asked.
“No, I need an hour to get ready, if that’s ok?” Amity asked. Luz’s jaw dropped.
“What? But you walked all the way here and-” Amity just gave her a smirk. “Oh, you’re joking,” she said with a blush. Amity just laughed.
“C’mon, doofus, let’s go,” She said, taking Luz’s hand. The duo began to walk away. “So, what are we doing tonight?”
“Ok, let me just say first, this is an Eda and King suggestion,” Luz started.
“That’s not a great start,” Amity joked.
“Shut up!” Luz shot back “anyway,” Luz continued, and the two headed for Bonesburow to see the show.
Luz and Amity arrived at the venue where Cyanbeard was performing. It was a tea house a few blocks from the night market. Posters with Cyanbeard were plastered all over the front of the building.
“Al Cyanbeared? I think Ed and Emira saw him a few years ago,” Amity explained.” They said he was pretty funny; this should be fun,” She said with a smile.
“Why do I feel like everyone’s seen him but us?” Luz asked.
“He’s really popular and funny,” Amity explained. “I was too young to see him, and well, you weren’t in the boiling isles yet; we just never had the opportunity.”
“Alright, well, let’s go in!” Luz said excitedly. She took Amity’s hand and went to head inside when suddenly a man burst out the front doors. He was tall, wearing a tuxedo, and had a bright blue beard. Is that?
“Mr. Cyanbeard?” Luz questioned. The man looked down at the teenagers, his eyes wide and sweat pouring down his forehead.
“H-hey kids! Loyalfans? Thought so!” he said without taking a breath “here, get your limited edition Cyanbeard!” He said and threw a fake beard at Luz. Luz and Amity just stared at him with confusion.
“Is everything alright, Mr-”
“THERE HE IS!!” Someone inside shouted. Al looked back inside, and his eyes shot open.
“Ah Crap!” he shouted and looked back at the duo “haha, everythings fine! Always a pleasure meeting fans!” he said and bolted away in the opposite direction.
“I wonder what his problem is,” Amity asked as the pirate comedian ran away. As she said that, two Emperors Coven scouts ran out of the bar and looked around.
“He went that way!” one shouted, pointing in his direction, and they chased after him.
“Oh, he broke the law,” Amity said, laughing slightly. “I wonder what he did? Luz just stared at the scene, completely stunned. Amity took notice of her petrification. “You ok, babe?”
“No!” Luz shouted and started running after the coven scouts. “You can’t arrest him!!! It’ll ruin the perfect date!! Please!!”
“Luz, no!” Amity shouted and chased after Luz before she could start a fight with the Emperor’s Coven.
After Amity caught Luz and calmed her down, she suggested the two go out and get some ice cream to at least do something together. So they bought some ice cream and found a spot on the beach to sit and talk.
The couple sat together, watching the waves crash onto shore as they ate their dessert. Amity let out a relaxing sigh; watching the waves crash and the cool breeze blows on her gave her a refreshing and calm feeling.
“I love the beach,” she said, calm and relaxed. “How about you?” she asked Luz and took a bite out of her ice cream. Luz didn’t say anything. “Babe?” she asked and looked over at Luz, who was staring at the ocean sadly. “Luz!? What’s wrong?” Luz just let out a sad sigh.
“I just feel bad… our night was ruined by the Emperor’s Coven, and I just wanted to give you a nice night to enjoy” Amity smiled.
“That’s ok, babe,” She said, taking Luz’s hand. “I got to spend time with you. That’s enough for me,” She said and gave Luz a kiss on her hand. Luz smiled and blushed.
“Thanks” was all she could say.
“And who knows, Al Cyanbeard’s not the only comedian in the boiling isles; maybe we can see someone else,” Amity offered. Luz thought for a moment and pulled the fake beard out of her pocket.
“Titan, that’s it!” Luz exclaimed and stood up, turning so her back faced Amity.
“What are you doing?” Amity asked. Luz said nothing and walked over to the shoreline, still keeping her back to Amity.
“Just because Al was arrested doesn’t mean we can’t still have a comedy show!” Luz paused for a moment. Amity guessed as to what she was doing. “So right here on the beach! Presenting!!!!!” Luz Jumped and spun around, revealing that she had put the fake cyan beard on. “Luz Cyanbeard!!” Amity let out a laugh and clapped for her comedian girlfriend.
“Thank you, thank you!” Luz said, waving to her pretend crowd. “So this weekend,” she started her joke, “A friend of Eda’s was getting married, and she was invited and could bring a plus one, so she took me and King hid in her hair” Amity watched the show with curious eyes.
“And so we got to the wedding, and one thing to know about me is that I’m super emotional,” Luz said.
“I know,” Amity responded with a laugh.
“No interruptions!” Luz yelped. She cleared her throat and resumed, “Any way we got to the wedding, and it’s so beautiful; the flowers, the venue, and the couple looked absolutely stunning,” Luz explained. “It was so beautiful even the cake was in tears,” she made her first joke. Amity let out a laugh.
“So the ceremony ends, and I’m super exhausted. Crying always takes its toll on my energy.” Luz continued, “So I asked Eda to grab me some cake; I figured the sugar would help with my energy, right?” Amity nodded understanding. “I wait like an hour, and Eda comes back with nothing apparently, the ‘line was too long,’ and by the time she got there, it was all gone, so instead, I ask if she can grab some bread for me, she said yes and left, and then I wait like another hour, and she comes back with nothing,” Luz told Amity.
“And the same thing again, ‘line was too long,’ so finally I just ask her to get me a glass of punch, and 15 seconds go by, and she’s back with a glass of punch, and I say ‘how was that so fast?’ Luz leaned forward to build suspense. Amity had no clue where this was going. “and she says,” ‘that’s the thing about weddings Luz, there’s no punch line!’” Luz projected while waving her Jazz hands. Amity just gave her a deadpan expression. At least she tried, too; she could feel the laughter fighting to come out. “Oh, c’mon, that was a good one!” Luz gripped, looking at Amity like she’d been betrayed. Amity’s face broke, and she burst out laughing.
“No punch line!! Haha”
“There it is!” Luz said with a smug grin; Amity couldn’t help but blush. Titan, her smile is so cute.
“Oh Titian, you’re such a dork,” Amity said through laughs.
“I try,” Luz joked.
Amity looked at Luz with a warm smile, “C’mere,” She said, waving Luz over. Luz walked over and knelt beside her.
“What’s up?” Amity grabbed Luz’s collar and pulled her in for a kiss. Luz’s eyes shot open in surprise, but her shock faded, and she melted into the kiss. A few seconds passed, and they broke off the embrace but kept their foreheads pressed together. Amity let out a sigh of contentment.
“Thank you for tonight,” she said appreciatively.
“Of course,” Luz said. A few seconds passed, and the moment felt right, so Luz said, “I love you” Amity blushed and kissed her again.
“I love you too,” and for a few seconds, the duo enjoyed the feeling of pressing their foreheads together. But Luz had to get back to work.
“Alright, enough of that! I said no interruptions, didn’t I?” she said, standing up from Amity. “I have a show to put on,” She projected, her face still flush. Amity chuckled.
“Ok, Cyanbeared, let’s see what you got,” Amity challenged her girlfriend.
“You’re on!” Luz said with a giant smile. “So two witches walk into a bar-” Luz started her next joke. Amity felt the cool air blow on her skin once again, refreshing her once again. It was perfect. Sitting on the beach laughing with the one she loved was a dream come true. The young witch got comfortable and watched the rest of her girlfriends act with a smile.
