Chapter Text
It was sometime in the middle of August. Two days ago, Suguru Geto was attending a completely normal high school. He was getting along fine with completely normal people. He was, by all means, living a completely normal life…
Besides the curses. And of course, he had to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.
“Shit…” Suguru spotted the curse in the middle of his walk to the train station. It was down an alleyway, silently watching the people that passed by.
It could seriously hurt someone… He thought to himself, beginning to walk down the alley without even thinking. It doesn’t seem that strong though… I can just quickly…
Suguru had done it a couple of times at this point. He had been aware of his abilities for a few years now. Not that he liked them all that much… But, if it meant he could protect the people he cared about, then he would be more than willing to put them to use.
The curse was gone, the only proof of it ever being there being the orb in Suguru's hand. He inspected it for a few moments, before bringing it up to his mouth. He wrapped his lips around the sphere and…
I’ll never get used to that taste… He gagged as he ingested the cursed spirit. It tasted God-awful, but it was gone, and that was all that mattered. Now, he just needed to make it to the train station before he missed his—
“Whoa… You do that, kid?” Suguru quickly turned around, his wide eyes meeting a woman. She seemed to be in her late twenties. Most of her hair was brown, except her bangs, which were a much lighter shade. It was tied up into a messy bun. Some other things that stood out were her purple eyes, the two piercings above her right eyebrow, and her bandaged hands. Other than that, she looked pretty average, if not shabby. She was wearing an oversized t-shirt, pajama pants, and flip flops, and was carrying a bag of groceries, probably from the nearby convenience store.
But… She had seen what Suguru did. She had seen the cursed spirit, and watched him ingest it… At least, that’s what it sounded like.
“Do what…?” Suguru hesitantly asked back.
“You… exorcised— No… Ate that cursed spirit?”
“You can see them.” It was more of a statement than a question. She was the first person Suguru had ever met that could see these things. He remembered when he was younger, he would tell his parents about them, but they would just laugh and say he had a wild imagination. But now, he was confident they were not just the result of his mind messing with him.
“Y-Yeah, I— I should introduce myself.” The woman walked towards Suguru, and offered him her hand. “I’m Saki Sugiharu, a grade one jujutsu sorcerer… Though, I guess that means nothing to you yet…”
Hesitantly, Suguru took Sugiharu’s hand, giving her a handshake. “I’m Suguru Geto… and… not really…”
“Well, Suguru, hear me out. What if there was a school just for people with powers like yours? Just people who could see cursed spirits, and wanted to do something about them. Would you attend it…?”
“I…”
~~~
And that is how Suguru ended up here, standing in the hallway of Tokyo Jujutsu High with a much better presenting Sugiharu and someone else. She seemed around his age, and was wearing a similar uniform, so it was probably his…
“Suguru, meet Shoko Ieri. Shoko, meet Suguru Geto. The two of you will be classmates.”
Suguru looked from Sugiharu, then to Shoko. “It’s nice to meet you.” Suguru bowed, earning an intrigued smirk from the other student.
“Likewise.” Shoko nodded her head before looking up at their teacher. “Sugiharu-Sensei. I thought you said there were going to be three of us?”
“Ah, right. We’ll be getting him tonight. Do either of you have any fancy attire?”
Suguru and Shoko looked at each other, each seeing the other’s confused expression. “No…?” Suguru answered.
“No worries. I got you two some. They’re in your dorms.” Sugiharu nonchalantly pulled out a lollipop, unwrapping it before sticking it in her mouth.
“I’m still a bit confused…” Suguru’s eyebrows furrowed. If the teacher did not answer in the next minute, he was going to start getting irritated.
Sensing this, Sugiharu laughed, then replied. “We’re picking him up from a fancy party. Your classmate is Satoru Gojo—“
“Wait… Gojo? Like, the clan?” Shoko’s eyes widened slightly. Suguru was still very lost. What about clans?
Sugiharu nodded with a hum. “Not only is he from the Gojo Family, but he’s the current possessor of the Six Eyes. He even inherited Limitless. He’s the whole Gojo Family package.”
“Damn.”
“I’m sorry, I’m a bit confused…” Suguru interjected, gaining the attention of Sugiharu. “Gojo Family…? Six Eyes…? Limitless…?”
“Oh boy… We can get into sorcerer families and all that once classes start. And to put it simply, the Six Eyes and Limitless are both techniques passed down in the Gojo Family. Kid’s the first in four hundred years to possess both at the same time, so he’s pretty damn special. Even his family was reluctant to give him up to us.” She chuckled before turning around, starting to walk away. “Anyway, we’ll be heading out at five. Make sure you’re ready by then.”
Once she was out of sight, Shoko laughed. “He’s gonna be a real asshole, huh? The clan probably spoils him like crazy.”
Suguru chuckled, still a bit confused by everything. He would probably learn soon enough. “Probably… Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.”
“Right. Five o’clock. See ya then.” Shoko waved before walking towards her dorm room.
“See ya.”
“Saki Sugiharu. I’m from Tokyo Jujutsu High.”
The man at the entrance flipped through a list, eventually stopping at a page. “Yep. What about these two?” He looked up, and pointed the pen he was holding at Suguru and Shoko.
Shoko was completely unfazed by the sudden call out. Suguru, on the other hand, was a bit more nervous. He did not show it all that much, but he still did not know how these things worked. A few days ago, he thought he was the only one who could so much as see cursed spirits. Now, he was entering a new world where everyone can see them. He quickly glanced over at Shoko. Did she feel this way before coming here?
“They’re my students. I hope that’s alright. I called ahead of time to make sure they could come.” Sugiharu answered calmly.
The man gave her a weird look. “Just one minute.” He went inside, leaving the three of them unattended.
“We could just… go in…” Shoko suggested.
“Normally, I'd agree. But we’ve gotta be good in front of these people. Again, they’re already wary of us.” Sugiharu explained.
“Right.” Shoko pouted as they waited. It did not take long before the man returned, resuming his position.
“Right, you’re welcome to go in. Sorry for the trouble.”
“No worries. Thank you.” Sugiharu smiled before leading her students into the venue.
Suguru immediately understood why they had to dress up for this. Everything was so fancy. If he had to guess, he and Shoko were probably the youngest people there. Even Sugiharu seemed way younger than a lot of them. All of the attendees, most likely members of the Gojo Family, talked casually in small groups, sipping wine and occasionally snacking on tiny appetizers when servers came around to them. There was classical music being played live, and a couple people swayed along to it, but it did not seem to be the main event.
There was no other way to put it. They were fucking rich.
“Right. We’ll probably be here for a couple hours. Make yourselves comfortable. Take as many of the appetizers as you can. Oh, but don’t drink. I’ll get in trouble.” And just like that, Sugiharu walked away from her two students.
The two stood together in silence. “Welp, you heard her.” Shoko said as she scanned the room. “Looks like there are two tables with food, one on either side. I’ll take the right, you take the left.” She patted Suguru’s shoulder, not letting him speak before making her way to the right side of the room.
He really had no other choice. Suguru sighed before heading towards the left side of the venue.
The table was filled with food that had basically gone untouched. It was not as if it was off limits. The attendees were just too focused on each other's company. And why come over when there were servers going around anyway?
Of course, the selection was mainly small, finger foods. Things you could eat in one bite. There is nowhere to really sit down, so it made sense they were not serving anything bigger.
“Ugh…” For a moment, Suguru forgot he was in a room with other people. He looked up at the person the voice came from. He was a boy, probably around Suguru’s age, standing a foot or so away from him. His hair was shockingly white, and his eyes were a bright blue. His outfit looked pretty well put together, but he did not seem too comfortable in it. Overall, he seemed irritated, squinting his eyes at the food selection with a frown. “It’s always the same, and it’s always gross.”
Suguru quickly turned away from the boy, looking back at the food in question. The last thing he wanted was to end up in a conversation with some filthy rich kid. Anyway, the food did not look that bad. But what did he know? Either he was right, and the kid was just spoiled, or the boy was right, and he was just not well educated.
“Hey. I’ve never seen you before.” Welp, so much for not striking up conversation. Suguru could practically feel those eyes on him. Hesitantly, he looked up at him. Sure enough, his brown eyes met the other’s blue ones.
“Yeah. It’s my first time.” Suguru replied. It was too late to try to back out.
“Weird. You don’t look like a Gojo. A plus one?”
Suguru nodded. “I’m here with my teacher.”
The boy laughed, a bit confused. “Your teacher? I don’t know if teachers should be inviting students to events like these.”
“… Maybe you’re right. I don’t really know why she brought us. Maybe to get to know the new kid.”
“‘New kid’? This entire story is totally confusing me.”
You think I know any better? “Oh, well… I go to Jujutsu High, and one of my classmates is a Gojo, so we’re here to get him.”
At that, the boy’s eyes widened. He looked from Suguru, to the food, then back at Suguru. Did I say something weird?
“You… Do you know who I am?”
An odd question, but it made sense. All these rich people probably expected everyone to know them. “No. I don’t.”
Instead of getting more irritated than he already was, the boy… smiled? “Well, that’s a first. What’s your name?”
“Suguru Geto. Yours?”
“You’ll find out soon enough.”
What was with this guy?
The song playing in the background began to fizzle out, and another one began. This time, the music was a bit louder, and Suguru watched as attendees started to pair up. One offered their hand to the other, then the two began swaying to the music.
Dancing. They were dancing, and Suguru did not like it. Not because he disliked the act of dancing. It was the fact that this event could not decide what it was. Was it a family get-together? Was it a dance? What was it?
“Come here.” Suguru’s eyes darted to the boy beside him once he took hold of his wrist. Before he could protest, Suguru was being dragged towards the area occupied by the dancing couples. The boy stopped in the middle of the crowd, turned to face Suguru, then placed one hand on his hip, and the other on his wrist. With that, he began the waltz, moving in time with the music.
“I don’t usually dance. Especially not with people I don’t know the name of.” Suguru stated, but he settled into it, going entirely against what he had said. He placed his hand on the boy’s shoulder, and moved the other so it was really in the palm of the other’s hand. It was more comfortable that way.
“Oh well.” The boy shrugged before scanning the room. He did not seem to find what he was looking for. “If my parents see me dancing with another boy, they’ll be pissed.” He said it with a smirk.
“Not to be rude, but your parents seem like assholes.” Suguru only said it loud enough for the boy to hear, even leaning in to prevent any nearby Gojos from listening in. For all he knew, this guy’s parents could have been some big shots within the family, and he was supposed to be “good,” according to Sugiharu.
The boy, however, did not seem to mind the jab. “You got that right. After all, they only ever come near me to show me off or scold me. My very existence changed the world, but they just handed me off to a nanny and called it a day. They should be a little more grateful.”
The more I hear about this family, the more confused I get. “I couldn’t imagine…” Suguru avoided meeting the boy’s blue eyes. He just opted to look at the shoulder his palm rested on.
“It is what it is.” The other shrugged. “It’s fine though.” The song being played reached its climax, with many people dipping the person they were dancing with. The boy was no different, dipping Suguru and obtaining his full attention. “I’ll be out of here soon anyway.” He said, his eyes not breaking away from Suguru’s.
“Lucky you.” Suguru managed to say once he was lifted back up. He was actually quite impressed. The boy did not look all that strong, but he could dip Suguru no problem.
They danced the rest of the song out with a comfortable silence between them. However, Suguru was starting to notice the boy grow a bit irritated again as his eyes darted around the room. He squinted his eyes, looking down at his and Suguru’s feet.
“Are you alright?” Suguru asked as the song concluded.
“Yeah… Just… It’s really bright in here…” The boy released his hand from Suguru’s, still leaving the one on his hip. He rubbed his hand over his eyes, trying his best to shield them from the outside world.
Suguru glanced around the room, looking at the different light fixtures. It was not too bright. Of course, by no means was it “dimly lit,” but it was not eye strain worthy either. Nevertheless, he patted the boy’s shoulder before letting it fall to his side. “Maybe you should step out for a bit? It might make you feel better.”
The blue eyes peaked at Suguru from behind the boy’s hand. “Yeah… Yeah, I’ll do that… Sorry, excuse me.”
And just like that, the boy walked past him, leaving Suguru alone in the middle of a bunch of members of the Gojo Family.
~~~
“Funny story. I can’t find Satoru.” Sugiharu pouted, munching on a tiny sandwich.
It had been a few hours since they had arrived, and the party was starting to die down. They were planning on heading out soon, but they could not leave without Satoru Gojo, and now he was nowhere to be seen.
“Oh, and I really don’t want to talk to his parents… They’re scary…” The teacher groaned.
Shoko looked around the room. “Where are his parents anyway?”
“There.” Sugiharu pointed her finger at two individuals. A man and a woman. The man had light gray hair, which did not seem uncommon amongst the people here. He wore a frown. Who knows if he was actually upset, or if that was just how he always looked. The woman had platinum blonde hair. She wore a heavy amount of makeup, even though her blue eyes already stood out so much. Suguru watched her talk to a person with a sweet smile. However, it immediately dropped and turned into a look of irritation once they walked away. He was starting to understand why Sugiharu was scared of them.
“Got it.” Shoko, on the other hand, was not scared at all. She casually walked over to the two, and struck up a conversation. The other student and teacher were left behind, too shocked by Shoko to even move. As they watched, they noticed how irritated the parents were, but it did not seem to be directed at Shoko. The mother left for a minute or so, before returning with an older looking lady. Shoko turned to Suguru and Sugiharu, waving them over. Hesitantly and cautiously, they approached the group.
By the time they arrived, the parents were completely out of the conversation, going back to watching over everything and talking quietly amongst themselves.
The old lady bowed. “I’m sorry for the trouble Satoru has caused you.”
“No worries. Just want to make sure I bring these kids back before curfew.” Sugiharu smiled warmly at the lady, who reciprocated the expression.
“How responsible. I’ll take you to him. I assume he went to his room at some point during the night. He gets overwhelmed easily.”
“Lead the way.”
