Weekend At The Beach House

Summary:

Kara being National City’s hero full time and Lena L-Corp’s CEO can be very tiring especially while juggling work and raising two kids at the same time which is why they decided to take a much-needed break from their busy lives and spend a sunny weekend at the beach with their children.

Chapter Text

Kara and Lena watched in amazement as their children, Lily and Ethan, played in the backyard of their private three-story house in the quieter suburb of National City they moved to when trying to raise two tiny humans in the busy city became too much. It also wasn’t far from the kids' school and work. Thirty minutes at the most.

Lena had carried both babies to full term, conceived by using the same anonymous donor, her eggs and Kara’s Kryptonian DNA she had extracted and placed into both embryos before they were implanted into her womb, making her private nurse sign many NDA’s.

The two kids had inherited a remarkable blend of their parents' traits, creating a unique dynamic that both fascinated and delighted their mothers. Their powers had also come in at a fairly young age, Lily at five months and Ethan at ten months so for everyone’s safety and to keep their powers at bay, they wore power dampening cuffs until they were old enough to control them better.

Lily, their firstborn, was a force of nature who came out with lungs of fury, screaming the whole hospital room down. With her Kryptonian powers, she possessed a boundless energy and an insatiable curiosity about the world. She ran through the grass, giggling as she leaped into the air, defying gravity for those brief moments. Kara couldn't help but smile at her daughter's enthusiasm. With Lena’s genius qualities, she solved her first Rubik’s Cube and even assembled a drone from scratch at two years old, Lena noticing as she grew, she was more interested in her powers than she was scientific wise which was ok.

Lena, watching her wife teach their daughter was equally proud but cautious. She knew the potential of their children's abilities and wanted to make sure they were used responsibly.

“Lily, baby please be careful.” Lena called out, her motherly concern never far from the surface. “Stay close to the ground, remember?”

Lily nodded, her blue eyes sparkling with determination. She might be young, seven to be exact but she already had a sense of responsibility that mirrored her mother's as Supergirl. With a little guidance from Kara, she practiced her flight close to the ground, an eager learner. She had many accidents with her powers especially with heat vision when she got too excited one time while running around outside with her cuff off and burnt a hole through their patio door straight into their white leather sofa nearly setting the house on fire. Another time, she accidentally encased Lena’s laptop in a ball of ice rendering it unusable. Lily was yet to master the rest of her powers but learning to fly was always first on the list for both her and Kara.

Ethan who is six, born a year after his sister was a different story. He watched Lily's antics with a quiet and contemplative gaze, sitting on a blanket with a stack of picture books beside him not having much interest in his powers as he continued to wear his cuff. His deep green eyes that mirrored Lena’s, absorbed everything around him, and he seemed to be analyzing the world in his own way. His reserved nature contrasted with Lily's outgoing personality.

Lena, sitting beside Ethan, smiled as she turned the pages of a science-themed book with him. It was clear that Ethan had inherited his mother's scientific intellect. He was fascinated by the complex concepts presented in the book, and Lena relished the opportunity to nurture his interests.

Kara joined them on the blanket, her eyes filled with pride as she watched her children explore their world in different ways. “You're going to be one brilliant scientist one day, Ethan.” she said, ruffling his dark hair.

Ethan smiled shyly, a hint of his mother's intelligence shining through. “Like you Mommy?” He peered shyly up at Lena.

Kara and Lena exchanged a loving glance. “Yes, just like me.” Lena replied, her heart swelling with affection as she placed a tender kiss to his head.

Kara leaned backwards on her hands and pecked Lena’s lips from behind Ethan’s head when Lena did the same and leaned over. “Hey, I was thinking that maybe this weekend we could go spend it at the beach house. No work, no Supergirl duties, no interruptions. Just us.”

Lena’s eyes lit up. “I think that’s a lovely idea and we do deserve a well needed break away from everything.” She looked up at Lily racing over to sit between her legs. “What do you both think?”

“Oh yes please, can we! I love it at the beach! We can collect seashells and make a huge sandcastle!” Lily made an excited noise making both her mothers laugh.

“And what about you Ethan?” Kara pulled him close for a hug as he sat there quietly.

“I would like to go to the beach.” He nodded his head.

“Good then it’s settled.” Lena nudged Lily up. “It’s nearing dinner time. Can you take your brother and get washed up please.” She gave her a forehead kiss, stood and picked up the books.

While the kids got cleaned up and into their pyjama’s, dinner was just about ready so they both sat in front of the TV to watch their mother who had gone to another Supergirl emergency.

“Whoa. Mom is really good with her freeze breath!” Lily watched with amazement as Kara flew around the building at the same time as using her freeze breath to put out the fire. “I wanna be just like her one day.” Lily turned around and sat on her knees. “Mommy, can I do what mom does when I grow up to be as big as her?”

“Maybe one day sweetheart.” Lena started plating up their food.

Lily turned back around and sat down right as Kara looked into the news camera and winked. “Oh look. Mom winked her eye at me!” she waved at the TV like Kara would be able to see her. “I bet she’s coming home now!”

“Well then you both better get up here and eat your dinner before your mother flies in and eats it all.” Lena grinned at how fast both her kids moved despite wearing their cuffs as it’s the only way they can get some sleep at night.

Right on time as usual, Kara appeared on the balcony, walking in the door covered in soot from head to toe. “Sorry I look a mess. I had to fly into the building and save a bunch of people who got trapped.”

“We saw!” Lily said as she shoved a spoonful of mashed potatoes into her mouth.

“I’m just gonna shower, change and then join you all.” Kara walked off to the bedroom to strip off and shower. She came out a while later and ate dinner with her family.

Lena got the kids tucked into bed once they had finished their dinner and brushed their teeth while Kara cleaned the kitchen since Lena cooked then made her way upstairs to the bedroom Ethan and Lily still share.

While Kara spent some one on one time with Ethan reading him a bedtime story, Lena does the same with Lily until they both fall asleep, receiving a kiss from both parents, their nightlight switched on and left to sleep for the night.

Lena showered and changed into her pyjama’s, crawling into bed, exhaustion hitting her like a freight train, falling asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow. Kara tucked her hair behind her ear, gave her a kiss then snuggled down to get some rest, ready for a fun weekend ahead.
