Resting in the Trailer

Work Text:

Eddie was tired. Fuck, was he tired. Between Nancy's tutoring, band practice, and all the odd jobs he had been doing all day, he was exhausted.

But the upside was that it was Wayne's day off so he'd probably be awake when he got home! They hadn't been able to spend much time with each other lately so that was something to look forward to.

As he got to the trailer park, his heart jumped and he felt himself grin, though confusion twisted in his mind.

Steve's car was sitting next to Wayne's truck. He was sure he had told Steve he'd be busy all day, and if anything, Wayne would have told him he'd be busy.

As he parked, he began to wonder why Steve hadn't come outside like he normally did, the van had a VERY recognizable sound after all. But he could be busy with something or another, hell, he was probably at Max's!

So he slipped out of his van and made his way to his front door. He could hear the TV on and rolled his eyes at the sound of the football game being televised. He had forgotten it was football season so Wayne was probably watching that, waiting for him to come in.

So Eddie slipped off his mud covered boots and walked in, only to freeze in the doorway.

Wayne was indeed on the couch in front of the TV, but so was Steve. Both were asleep, with Steve leaning on Wayne, the man's arm wrapped around Eddie's boyfriend with his hand on top of Steve's head. It was something Wayne did with Eddie all the time.

Eddie knew just what had happened. Wayne probably noticed Steve dozing in and out and wrapped his arm around Steve, probably pulled his closer and let him fall asleep all while petting him.

Eddie could feel himself smiling, could feel the tears forming as he shook his head. He knew Wayne liked Steve, hell they liked to gang up on Eddie and have their sports talks and sometimes Eddie's even caught them sitting out, just before the sun's risen, smoking their cigarettes in comfortable silence.

Wayne felt the same way Eddie did. Steve belonged here, he belonged with them.

So Eddie moved quietly around the trailer and covered both Wayne and Steve with their respective blankets (they were both picky about that) and he turned off both the TV and lights before slipping into his room, getting ready to settle in for the night.

He knew he'd wake up to Steve in his bed in the morning and he knew Wayne would have a fresh pot of coffee waiting for them.

He snuggled under his blanket and closed his eyes, listening to both Wayne's somewhat loud snores and Steve's softer ones hidden under his uncle's and he felt himself relax.

He had his little family right here in his trailer and he knew he'd sleep good tonight.

He always did when he had both of them here.
