Work Text:
Sunny and Kel were both lying in bed. It was rather late at night, but neither of them had been there long enough to yet fall asleep. However, despite that, Sunny had assumed that there wouldn’t be any more conversation, seeing as they had already their I love you’s and goodnights about a hundred times by then. Well…it wasn’t that many, of course, but it certainly felt like it. Not that Sunny minded. He could postpone sleeping for a few minutes with little trouble.
However, it seemed that they wouldn’t yet be done talking, when Kel spoke up again. “Hey, Sunny?”
“Hm?” Sunny hummed tiredly, rubbing his eye. He was sure that he had almost fallen asleep.
“Thanks for getting me that bracelet,” Kel said, and even in the dark Sunny could clearly see that he was wearing a smile on his face.
“What?” Sunny asked, a little confused. His mind was a bit too foggy at that moment to easily put the pieces together.
“You know, the bracelet you got me a couple months ago,” Kel explained. It was clear from the tone in his voice that he was tired, too, and Sunny guessed that that was perhaps why he was bringing up such a random subject. That wasn't necessarily the case for certain, however, seeing as Kel was often one to bring up things that seemed rather unrelated to whatever subject they were previously on.
“Oh, yeah…” Sunny recalled. He smiled a little, and though he now knew what Kel was talking about it was still apparent that he was a bit lost when it came to why Kel was bringing that up. “Did something make you think of that?”
“Kinda, I guess,” Kel began, pausing to presumably better collect his thoughts. “I was thinking about it today, after I finished playing basketball. Mostly, I realized that every single time I've won every game that I've had it on for..!”
Sunny almost laughed, though his sleepiness prevented that. “You've left it on since I first gave it to you,” Sunny said
“Yeah, I know that..! But, before then I didn't always win every game I played. I like to think it's a good luck charm, since you gave it to me,” Kel beamed. Gosh, his boyfriend was rather silly sometimes. Sunny found it charming.
“Aw, that's nice. You should give you and your team more credit, though. Maybe you all have just improved and that's why you aren't losing,” Sunny suggested simply.
“Both of those things could be true at the same time!” Kel insisted, “I'm pretty sure about this though, Sun'.” He had to pause his sentence as he yawned. The two of them really did need to be getting some sleep. What time was it again? Sunny had no idea. “Either way, I think it makes me more confident,” Kel chuckled, “It reminds me that you're always rooting for me!”
Sunny gave a small but genuine smile. If his heart was warmed this much at this time of night, he might not be able to get any sleep. He leaned forward to give Kel a quick kiss on the check, much to the recipient's delight. “You're right about that part; I am always rooting for you.”
Kel giggled a little, clearly full of joy. “Do you think it's a good luck charm, Sunny?”
Sunny thought about that for a moment, trying to give what to him was the absolute most honest answer to such a question. “Anything could probably be a good luck charm as long as you believe that it is,” Sunny suggested, with a small shrug, or, at least, the closest he could come to shrugging whilst lying on his side.
“I guess you're right,” Kel nodded. “That's really smart, Sunny!” (Was it?) “If that's true, then it's definitely a good luck charm. My life's always better with you in, that's for sure…”
What a cheesy thing to say, Sunny thought, but he adored the sentiment anyway. “Aw. Same goes to you, Kel.”
“I'm gonna win every basketball game possible because of this thing!” Kel declared, “And I'm sure of that!”
“I bet,” Sunny said, playfully. “If you don't though, you can't blame me, though.”
“Yeah, yeah, I won't..! But I bet we won't have to worry about that. The bracelet won't let me down, probably!” Kel raised the arm that still wore the bracelet in the air for a moment, before bringing it back down. Although he was enthusiastic, the more Kel talked the easier it was to be sure that he needed to get some sleep just as much as Sunny did.
“Mhm…” Sunny hummed in reply, mid yawn. “We should probably be getting to bed, though… I'm exhausted.”
“Yeah, I am, too…” Kel agreed, adjusting to get more comfortable and pulling the blanket over the two of them just a bit more than it already was. “Goodnight, Sunshine. I love you so much..!”
“Goodnight, Kel,” Sunny smiled, closing his eye. “I love you, too.” He knew it wouldn't be long before he drifted off to sleep. Though, Kel was always much faster to do so than he was, even though it didn't take Sunny too long to fall asleep, either, on most days. He could already hear Kel snoring, which was to be expected. He'd been like that since they were kids: able to pass out at the drop of a hat.
It didn't really matter much if that bracelet was somehow truly a good luck charm or not. It brought Sunny more than enough joy to know Kel thought of something he had gifted to him in that way. Sunny truly did love him more than any words could properly describe…
Sunny began to wonder if there was anything that Kel had gotten him that he really considered a good luck charm, but he wasn't quite sure. Maybe he could consider everything Kel had gotten for him in that way. The two of them had been together long enough to where they'd both gotten each other countless things. Everything that Kel had gotten him, some sun and moon hair pins, a beautiful jacket, a T-shirt with the logo of his favorite band…were things that were all equally special to him.
