Work Text:

It was late at night, far later than either Kel or Sunny were usually awake. Kel was more than ready to go to bed, however, his boyfriend, Sunny, didn't quite seem to be on the same page. Kel didn't typically have much of an issue with this, but seeing as it was three in the morning at that moment, he really wished Sunny would get some rest for the sake of his well being.

A while ago, maybe a half an hour or so ago, Sunny had told Kel it was fine if he just went to bed, and that he'd be there relatively soon. Kel was struggling to remember, but perhaps he'd even said something along the lines of five more minutes. However, that hadn't ever happened, and Kel was struggling to fall asleep without Sunny by his side (maybe that was a little embarrassing, but not completely unreasonable, seeing as they'd been living together for quite a few years now).

If Sunny still didn't feel like going to bed, Kel would probably urge him to do so. He really wanted to get some rest, and just as importantly, he knew it would be best for Sunny to do the same. He'd stayed up later than what was reasonable for a few days in a row now, but this was certainly the worst of those.

So, Kel stood up from their bed and stretched his arms. It seemed his body wasn't wanting to get up, which he understood. However, he knew it'd be necessary to push through when it came to something like this. A bit more slowly than he usually would have liked to, Kel made his way to the living room where he knew Sunny would be, probably still overly-invested in Mario for the '64, or maybe even some of the other games he'd gotten recently. Kel was too tired to remember the titles.

Although, what Kel expected to see was not quite what he came across when he finally did get to the living room. Sunny was still there on the couch, yes, and he was still holding the controller, albeit just barely. What was easy for Kel to realize, though, was that he'd somehow managed to fall asleep there. Kel smiled fondly, rolling his eyes. He should have known.

Kel walked up to him, gently tapping him on the shoulder. His voice was soft, but still loud enough to easily make out, in hopes to awake the boy so he could get him to bed. Sunny would most definitely end up uncomfortable if he spent the night sleeping on the couch like that. “Sunny… Sunny, wake up..! It's, like, three in the morning. I know you don't have to work tomorrow, but you should still get some normal rest.”

Sunny stirred, and while noise was definitely something that came out of his mouth, none of the words he said (if they could even be called that) could even come close to being deciphered by Kel. Did Sunny himself even understand what he was saying? Was he even awake?

“Sunny, you're clearly exhausted, and I know that can't be comfortable,” Kel said, just a bit louder. He tapped on his shoulder again, shaking him a little. Perhaps complete gentleness was not something that was going to wake this man from his slumber.

Once again, Sunny spoke mostly incoherently, however, but one single phrase was able to be understood out of the rest of Sunny's random jargon this time around. “...I'm sleeping…”

“Obviously,” Kel chuckled, mostly to himself. If you asked him, at the moment that was the easiest thing to figure out on the planet. “I can tell. But you should probably sleep in the bed instead of on the couch. I love you, dude, but your neck will be super sore in the morning.”

This time, there was no response from Sunny, not even one of jumbled words that didn't quite fit into the reality of what the English language was. Or any language, really. All that was heard from Sunny was a quiet, just barely-noticeable snore. Kel sighed, even if there was not a single part of him that could truly be upset with Sunny right then. This was pretty close to the opposite of Sunny getting up, wasn't it?

Still, Kel wasn't just about to leave him out there. So, as a last resort, Kel just ended up picking up Sunny in his arms, despite the fact he was weakened a bit compared to his usual strength due to his apparent sleepiness. Thankfully enough, this somehow didn't wake his boyfriend, who, as far as Kel could tell, was already far into the vast depths of dream-land. Though Kel was known by his friends for being able to fall asleep in seconds, he wasn't quite as heavy a sleeper as Sunny was. Once Sunny was asleep, especially when he first would drift off, there was no waking that guy without near impossible measures being taken. So, it was easy to say that the trip to their bedroom was completely smooth sailing.

Gently, Kel put Sunny down on the side of the bed closest to the wall so Kel could climb under the covers easily right afterwards. Still mostly asleep, with his eye closed, Sunny pulled the blankets over them just a bit more and adjusted the way he was laying in his barely-conscious attempt to get more comfortable. Very quietly, Kel giggled affectionately, to which Sunny was definitely not awake enough to notice.

Soon, Kel closed his own eyes, too, happy to finally be getting some rest. Maybe it would have been better to have Sunny get to bed earlier, but he didn't mind. They could sleep in quite a bit tomorrow, anyway, as it would be (or already was, seeing it was after twelve) a Sunday, and neither of them had work nor plans. Kel yawned, feeling joy in his heart, and it wasn't long at all before he drifted off to sleep just as Sunny had done.
