Work Text:

After Kel, and his boyfriend, Sunny, exited a rollercoaster at the amusement park, the latter could easily feel that he was starting to get hungry. He hadn’t eaten since they’d had breakfast in the morning before they’d left, and Kel was certainly ready to grab something to eat. “Do you feel like getting something to eat, Sunny?” He asked.

Sunny shrugged. “Yeah, I guess so. I’m not starving, though, so if you don’t feel like getting something yet we don’t have to,” he said, looking over at Kel.

“I’m pretty hungry,” Kel told him, accentuating everything he was saying with movements of his arm and hand. “Plus, food is one of the best things about places like this, anyway! Definitely not the best thing, but it’s tasty! I don’t know, I feel like it tastes better than if you got something from somewhere normally.” Kel realized he was rambling a bit, but he was sure that Sunny didn’t mind.

“Alright. Is there something you feel like having?” Sunny asked, looking around. They were, thankfully, already near where a lot of the food stands were, so it would be pretty easy to figure something out without having to look at a map or walk a million miles first. (Of course, there was nothing even close to that amount of travel, but Kel still felt it reasonable to exaggerate in that situation. Hyperbole did have its reasons for existing, after all.)

“I dunno yet,” Kel said. “If you want to pick something, you can!” Kel beamed with a smile, giving his boyfriend that choice. However, he certainly wouldn’t complain if Sunny decided to give that responsibility to him instead…

Sunny shook his head. “I don’t really mind. Pick whatever,” Sunny suggested.

Kel could do that! “Hm,” he hummed, making it clear that he was trying to make a decision as he looked around, examining all of the different options. Amusement parks always seemed to have limited options, but even so, they were all options that Kel liked. However, it wasn’t too long until Kel spotted something that he was more than eager to get. “Funnel cake!” Kel exclaimed, almost startling Sunny with his sudden volume. Whoops.

“That works,” Sunny said, though he still ended up adding, “but I’m not entirely sure if that’s considered lunch.”

“Maybe not, but it still sounds good! If you want, we can get something more normal, though,” Kel assured. Though, he couldn’t lie, if they didn’t end up getting funnel cake he’d be a tad bit upset. Not like miserable or anything even close to that, but now that he was thinking about funnel cake he was just craving it.

Sunny shrugged again. “I’m not complaining. I mean, we’re at the theme park. If we get sick, though, we can’t blame me,” Sunny said, with a small chuckle. Kel laughed, too, noticeably louder than Sunny in that regard, which was more than usual.

“Alright, I can agree to those terms! Funnel cake it is then!” Kel declared, moving to take Sunny’s hand, who, of course, accepted the offer quite easily. Kel led them to the funnel cake stand, which wasn’t too far off, maybe thirty or so steps. That could be totally wrong, though, because Kel certainly wasn’t counting. He wasn’t even sure why he was trying to estimate in the first place.

After they ordered and received their two funnel cakes (neither of them would have minded sharing one, but stopping them from doing so, Kel found it necessary to put chocolate syrup and whip cream on it while Sunny certainly didn’t, sticking to the simple powdered sugar) they sat down at one of the many picnic tables, Kel more than glad to immediately dig into the food that he had gotten. Sunny did as well, but he was definitely eating at a much slower pace than Kel was. Maybe he was less hungry, but that didn’t affect that particularly, seeing as Kel had always had a habit of eating faster than he was probably supposed to. Hero always used to get on his case about that, but naturally, that wasn’t an issue at the moment seeing as he was away at college and Kel was at an amusement park with his boyfriend.

“So,” Kel began, starting a conversation back up. Another one of his bad habits was made clear as he didn’t fully finish his food before speaking. “What do you think we should do next? When we’re finished eating, I mean.”

Sunny seemed to think for a moment, glancing around, before turning his attention back to Kel with a shrug. “I’m not sure. But if we look around we’ll probably find something. There’s enough stuff here for us to be here all day, and still not have done everything. We can worry about that when the food’s gone,” Sunny said, sounding completely sure of himself in his usual flat tone that Kel was quite comfortably used to. Sunny brushed some of his hair away from his face before he took another bite of the funnel cake.

“Yeah, you’re right,” Kel agreed. “Before today, I can’t even remember how long it’s been since I was last at a theme park. It’s definitely been years…probably like seven years, now that I think about it. I only kind of remember it. Maybe it was even eight… We all went together, right?”

Sunny nodded. “Mhm,” he hummed. “I haven’t been since back then either, which is probably easy to guess. It’s nice. I like it here.”

“Yeah,” Kel said with a bit of a chuckle. “I like it, too! If it was easier to afford, I’d suggest coming here every week!” He had a grin on his face at the very prospect of such a thing.

“That’s definitely not in our budget,” Sunny said. He rested his chin on his hand, looking away, as if considering something. “Maybe one day we could manage it though,” he suggested, sounding only partially serious.

“That’d be great!!” Kel exclaimed, despite the fact that he knew Sunny probably had said that as more of just a joke than anything else. He was certain that he’d never get tired of a place like this.

Sunny playfully rolled his eyes, not commenting on the matter any further. Instead, he sighed, just fondly saying, “I love you.”

“I love you, too, Sunny!” Kel grinned. “Really, though! We should consider it!”
