Work Text:
Sonya Blade was not a morning person. Despite the strict and militant lifestyle she had, mornings were always her biggest enemy. Having to stir from her peaceful slumber made her unreasonably angry, especially when it's from an alarm clock- which is why when she moved in with Johnny she stopped having an alarm clock after the first 2 she broke.
Johnny was a morning person. He was used to the rise and shine with his star life. Filming almost always started so early, so he had little choice but to wake up anyway. Besides, every night he couldn't wait to wake up and live another day as a lavish celebrity. He had it good! He just had to keep his phone alarm volume low and close to himself so Sonya wouldn't smash that too.
Johnny Cage muffled his phone until he could shut off the alarm, then rose out of bed with a big stretch and a yawn. Just as he was about to wake Sonya, he noticed how deeply asleep she was. Usually when he was waking up, she was at least slightly disturbed by him. "Ain't you a sleeping beauty," He murmured quietly about her, just before rolling out of bed to the bedroom, where he would start his Patrick Bateman-esque morning routine. Can't glow like a star if your skin isn't moisturized.
In nothing more than a towel around his waist, Johnny returned to the room. Still, Sonya was sleeping away. Only difference was she changed position, with her hand cradling her baby bump. Did he dare awaken the beast?
He approached her, soft footsteps to not startle her nor stir her from her slumber completely. He bent over, hovering above her. "Rise and sh-" He'd barely get a chance to finish before receiving an elbow straight to his gut. "-it!" Johnny held his gut in pain and backed off. "Okay, sorry!" He whimpered like a sad puppy.
"Oh my god, Johnny, I'm sorry," Sonya blurted, her words slowly slurring as her rush wore off. And after that adrenaline and panic wore off, now she was grumpy to be woken up. "What are you even waking me up for? What damn time is it?"
"About 7 in the morning. You slept more than I did and you're still tired?"
"You're not carrying a child. It's hard as hell to sleep with these back cramps."
And just like that, Johnny's dad mode kicked in. "Then you take another 20 while I get breakfast ready." A soft thud hitting the pillow as Sonya went back to sleep was enough to say 'sounds good to me'.
Johnny Cage dropped his towel and dressed himself up for the day. No filming today, meant he got to be a little more casual- dress shirt and khakis, stylish and comfortable. Not to mention the comments Sonya made about his behind in those khakis the last time they had some very private time. His next stop was the kitchen.
Johnny was a surprisingly good cook. Sonya could somehow burn cereal. That's why Johnny did all the cooking. He whistled the Ninja Mime motif theme to himself as he cooked the omelet, just how his wifey liked it. On the plate was the breakfast, along with some hash browns, all paired with a hot mug of coffee.
He heard a shuffling nearing the kitchen, slippers dragging against the hard flooring in such a sluggish tempo.
"Well look who woke up on her own!" Johnny announced. He immediately forgot about the breakfast to give her a hug from the side, snuggling right up to her. "Mornin', sunshine. Did the smell of Johnny Cage's famous breakfast wake you up?"
"Pft, famous?" Sonya mumbled in a mocking tone.
"Hey! Okay fine, it's just made by a famous dude, but it's a very good breakfast."
"Yeah, it is pretty good." Sonya sat down and took a long sip of her coffee, happy to indulge in it even if that one cup was all she was allowed to have while pregnant. She just needed that boost in energy.
"I ever tell you how cute you are when you're tired and grumpy?" Johnny said with a goofy grin as he admired her in her least professional moment. Messy hair, half-lidded eyes, mumbling more than talking in her usual commanding tone, it was all always a treat to see and he was the only one that got to see it.
"You say it every morning, Johnny."
"And I mean it every morning!" He leaned in with a kiss to her cheek as he set her plate down in front of her on the table.
Sonya began to eat her breakfast, the warm food giving her a warmer feeling in her heart she always struggled to express, just like every morning. "... Sorry for punching you earlier."
Johnny sat across from her with his own plate of breakfast. "Hey, you know I like it rough," He joked. In other words, all was forgiven.
Another successful morning for the two!
...
Sonya Blade was not a morning person. Despite the strict and militant lifestyle she had, mornings were always her biggest enemy. Somehow, it was even harder without that stupid movie star by her side, making sure every morning she was awake and ready on time and had a full breakfast to eat to start off her day. How did he hold her back from focusing and performing at her best in the Special Forces, but used to be so important to her waking up in the first place? No, he wasn’t important, he was just helpful then and only then.
She sat in the cafeteria of the Special Forces base, slumped over her lone table with her cup of coffee while she waited for her breakfast to finish microwaving. It was a pathetic breakfast, microwaved frozen eggs, but it was convenient. It did make her miss those freshly cooked omelets, though. No, food is food, and she didn’t need a clown to make it for her… Was it burning in the microwave?
Any second she could face-plant into the table and pass out from exhaustion, but such a high ranking person like herself couldn't be caught like that by anybody. She had to stay dedicated to her job and image among these people, her peers and her troop. She was a strong, independent, and very serious woman who had no time for bullshit and couldn't be caught lacking. Yet, she barely had the energy to retrieve her breakfast when the microwave beeped as the timer was up. She sighed to herself, trying to fight not only the exhaustion, but those recurring fuzzy thoughts of her ex-husband, too… How every morning he made the most delicious breakfasts and braided her hair… His obnoxiously cute comments… How dedicated he was to her… Was it yearning that she felt? Or just nostalgia for when mornings were easier while she struggled these days?... Well, whatever it was… She was sure she'll get over it after breakfast when her brain clears up and she’s more awake. She had more important stuff to think about anyway, like training the so-called Kombat Kids that included her own daughter. No time to even humor the thought of Cage, even if he reflected so much in their daughter...
Another "successful" morning for the one…
