Chapter Text
“Here we are!” Yellow declared with a grin, gesturing towards a small picnic setup in the grass.
Smiling at its sweet simplicity, Blue took in the scenery. The setting Minecraft sun cast everything in a soft orange glow, illuminating a village far in the distance. A blue checkered blanket was spread out on the ground, picnic basket filled with goodies set up in one corner. It was beautiful, and Blue told him so. “This is amazing Yellow! When’d you have the time to set this up?”
“Well, it isn’t exactly much so I did it when you were tending your farm earlier.” Yellow admitted, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.
“It’s perfect.” Blue smiled warmly at him.
They both settled down on the blanket and Yellow passed Blue a bowl filled with nether wart. “Can’t have a picnic without this, right?”
A small gasp escaped Blue before he grinned at Yellow. “You’re absolutely right!” Taking the bowl, he immediately started snacking.
Hearing Yellow’s addictive laugh beside him, he looked up to see Yellow watching him with an endearing smile. “You and your nether wart.” He murmured quietly with that same smile.
“You and your redstone.” Blue teased back.
Yellow blinked in surprise before bursting into another fit of laughter which Blue quickly joined in on. After a minute of trying to calm down, the occasional chuckle still plaguing him, Yellow managed to take out another bowl from the basket, this one holding watermelon. Together they ate their respective snacks in a peaceful silence, the music of the game playing soothingly in the background.
Blue couldn’t help but notice how much he was enjoying himself. Sitting with Yellow, watching the sun set, eating his favorite snack. They didn’t even need words, just the fact that Yellow was here with him in this moment was perfect in and of itself.
Polishing off the bowl, Blue stared at it. There was only one nagging thought in his mind that he wanted answered. “Why did you only bring me here?”
Pausing mid-bite, Yellow froze, eyes wide. A light blush crept up his face and he forcefully made himself chew the watermelon. Both to not choke and to avoid the question just a bit longer. Swallowing hard, he answered, looking far into the distance. “I wanted to spend some time with you.”
“Just me?”
“Is that wrong?”
“No! No, it’s not.” Blue quickly said. “I was just curious, that’s all.”
Yellow risked a quick glance to see Blue watching him. The orange light from the sun sparkled in his eyes. He felt his face flush even more. Blue had always held a special place in his heart, but he hadn’t realized just how much he cared for him until the battle with King.
A small smirk found its way onto Blue’s face. “So you wouldn’t consider this to be a date?” He didn’t think Yellow could blush any more than he already was, but Blue was quickly proven wrong. His face was so flushed Blue could almost feel the heat coming off of him.
Realization spread over Blue like a wild fire. “Unless that’s exactly what this is…” He whispered half to himself. Yellow gaped like a fish, clearly trying to say anything, which Blue found absolutely adorable. He’d been waiting for Yellow to say something; it wasn’t like he was very subtle about it. Blue had felt the same way for a long time, but had decided to wait for Yellow to be comfortable enough to ask.
Stammering, Yellow managed to say. “Uh... I-I mean if you want it to be… If you don’t that’s fine! Uh… I guess what I’m trying to say is… Umm… I-I… I really… Heh, this is…” He cleared his throat. “This is really hard… I… I really…”
Unable to hold back any longer, Blue leaned forward and pecked Yellow on the cheek. “I like you too Yellow.”
Yellow froze in shock at Blue kissing his cheek. He stared wide-eyed at Blue’s sweet smile after he leaned back. Replaying the moment in his head, it finally clicked what he’d said. Beaming from ear to ear, Yellow pulled Blue into a tight hug.
Cocooned in their own world, both reveling in the embrace, they didn’t notice the sun falling below the horizon. Stars started to twinkle in the newfound night also bringing forth the sound of mobs spawning in the distance. It would be an interesting journey home, but it was more than worth it.
