should he give these letters to him? these letters that kept the receptacle of his emotions, poured out by his past, the past everyone knew held no sentiment for anything. and yet here he was, hands clutching the paper which lines detained all the things he could never say out loud.
he thinks he should just burn these by the end of the day, watch as the old letters diminish themselves on the fire, hear the satisfying crackling of the burns as the smoke lifted up to the heavens. he could do all that without informing his mother what he had found in the attic.
or he could bring them to his apartment.
yeah, that was easier. he could do that.

The train slowed down enough to stop, right in time for one of the doors to face directly in front of him. They opened with a grating squeak of abandoned iron. And Kou placed one foot after the other, getting up the small stairs of the carriage in silent steps without understanding the reason for it.

Kou was alive, and Mitsuba wasn’t. No matter how much exorcist blood ran through Kou’s veins and no matter how hard Mitsuba pretended to be human, they were forever rooted to opposite sides of the Near and Far Shore, and that fact couldn’t be changed. Mitsuba needed to feed, to take proof of life from another in order to maintain his own, and that fact couldn’t be changed either.
He doesn’t want this. Mitsuba tells himself he doesn’t want this, but his body won’t listen to reason anymore. No matter how much his mind screamed and pleaded—please, not him, anything, anyone but him—it was no use. His body moves on its own, acting on its self-serving instinct to survive, and he couldn’t do anything but watch it happen.

Summary
Mitsuba Sousuke never liked summer. Too hot, too sticky. The only saving grace had ever been that he was finally free from school, mercifully able to kick back and relax for a couple of months. But summer school, a stupid global pandemic, and Minamoto Kou seem to have other plans for his summer (and maybe that isn’t a bad thing).
(Or: A fic where Mitsuba meets Kou over online summer school and anonymously messages him as a secret admirer)
