Summary
After his birth mother gave everything to escape Sylvestre Lesage’s clutches, Dion grows up a commoner in Eastpool and in the care of his adoptive parents Lord Commander Rodney and Hanna Murdoch. For his own safety, Dion is taught to suppress his powers and distance himself from all courtly affairs—compelled to watch and admire the Rosfield brothers only from afar.
But the call of Bahamut and a far greater purpose grows too strong. When Dion comes of age at fifteen, he presents himself as a Shield recruit, hoping to serve directly under First Shield Clive Rosfield and become protector of Joshua Rosfield, Dominant of the Phoenix and soon-to-be crowned Archduke of Rosaria.
