Work Text:
Courtney wasn’t sure what she wanted to do with her life.
She knew she didn’t want to be working at the smoothie bar forever, but beyond that, she wasn’t sure. Being a musician, like Tabitha had suggested, sounded fun, but Courtney wasn’t all that musically inclined. There was writing, she had always been a hobbyist poet, but the unpredictability of the field scared her.
It was weird. Courtney wanted something stable, like the smoothie bar, but not something that would tie her to a soul crushing 9-to-5. They very idea was hyperbolic.
The only constant thing she could count on was Tabitha, her girlfriend and the light of her life. Somehow, being by her side made it feel like everything was going to be alright. Like right now, at her shift. Tabitha was drinking a blackberry smoothie and telling David about how she ended up crowd surfing at her first concert. Courtney had heard the story a million times, heck she had been at the concert, and yet she still laughed along with the story, gasping and exclaiming at all the right spots. Courtney could listen to Tabitha talk for hours and not get bored, even if she was just reading the ingredient list off a milk carton over and over and over again. Tabitha just had a way of saying things, it was mesmerizing.
It was one of the reasons Courtney had fallen in love with her.
And standing at the smoothie bar, watching as Tabitha geared up for the grand finally, Courtney knew she would be okay. She would figure out the whole job thing later, she still had time. Maybe a gap year would be good. Time to work at the smoothie bar full time, to see if it would be as soul crushing as she thought. Between that, she could figure out her other options. Whether college would be the next step, or maybe just jumping straight into whatever job she decided on (be that the smoothie bar or otherwise).
Whatever it was, as long as Tabitha was by her side.
