That Day (那天)

Summary:

Rainbows don't always come after rain.
The sky will clear up when the fog fades.

Or

A poem on how Christine Chapel's and Spock's relationship might have ended.

Notes:

Hi everyone!
This is a sad take on an ending relationship.
It's also a teaser for an upcoming Spirk-oneshot and story.

You can listen to Handong's song "That Day" (韓東 - 那天) while reading.
-> (https://open.spotify.com/intl-de/track/4HXILSoUmKagDmGdWEV8YQ?si=3ebb4914ff6443ac) or search on Youtube
Handong is the Chinese member of the K-Rock Girl Group Dreamcatcher, please go check them out, they release all kinds of music!
The lines in italics are the rough translation (I don't speak Mandarin Chinese) of "That Day" (那天).
I tried to integrate the meaning I interpreted into the poem.

Feedback is welcome, I never wrote a poem in English before...

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

That Day 那天

Rainbows don't always come after rain.

Sometimes all effort to stay together is in vain.

You have to accept spring’s loss but as the haze comes

and clogs your ears with its hums,

you’ve got to sharpen your hand-made blades.

The sky will clear up when the fog fades.

You shall not expect happiness to return quickly,

still our hearts are coated with longing, thickly.

After summers will pass, there is this feeling

when meeting again does not feel healing.

You make familiar people feel like strangers

so their emotions keep the dangers.

And reunite those who were lost.

Intentions crossed, no matter the cost.

Love is not fair.

There are emotions that do tear

every so slightest bond apart

to simply hurt a human’s heart.

As you met once again in the frozen ash

Expectations dashed in a flash

but will you meet another time,

when lemonade has been made of lime,

fates have heard your urgent cry.

Flowers fly over towards your starry sky.

The happiness is coming but do not forget,

it is the autumn which will make you fret.

Autumn is Spring in reverse,

you have to remember the curse.

So I learned to bypass my longings,

focus on love and want were wrong things.

Surviving the winter is promised this way.

The first feelings in autumn always betray.

Slight regrets and wanting to better

but no use in keeping a simple love letter.

I'm used to insomnia

because my thoughts here are

better than trying with all might

to make amends after that cruel night.

Insomnia is better than obsession.

Regression is better than progression.

I want to mend because I swore

that spring day in the harsh downpour,

I would love you, strong-willed.

The promise is not yet fulfilled.

Regret has filled the future.

The ending winter opens the suture.

Faraway are the fulfilled promises.

Don't ask how far faraway is,

because I've forgotten.

That day in winter, so rotten.

That day, I forgot the promise I couldn't keep.

That day, blinded by the emotions, so deep.

I didn't say the right words.

We stopped flying like birds.

It's my fault for being quiet, struggling between right and wrong.

Why did the words stop at the tip of my tongue?

The love story stopped at that second

You will not forgive me, I reckon.

All righteous, I told you about my love,

innocent like a sweet, white dove.

But I forgot that I hurt you again.

I did not have the words to properly explain.

Right now, my heart is like a ghost town.

I'm sorry about my emotional breakdown.

I should apologize

because I made the tears appear in your eyes.

That day I forgot how to love and be myself.

Put that love away in a locked up bookshelf.

Alone I’m hanging off the cliff.

If there is an "if",

I will admit it's my obsession and my mistake.

Your reaction let my body shake.

The cruel words made me regret

and I can never forget.

Can I have the right to love again?

Tightening on my neck a closed chain.

The pain is engraved into it

until the day that I admit

but there is a faraway light.

It's a new day after the endless night.

Spring is coming to end winter’s reign.

It's a new year after overcoming the pain

but how can I live the rest of my life without you?

Without you there won’t be a world so true

My heart was bereft

the day you left.

But the sea is still tossing in my memory

because you cannot seem to remember me.

Everything replays when I close my eyes.

When will late spring’s happiness arrive?

I'm looking forward to meeting you again.

Maybe our closeness and touch remain.

That day, I forgot the promise I couldn't keep.

This day, I will be sure to sleep.

I didn't say the right words

but I will return flying like the birds.

It's my fault for being quiet, struggling between right and wrong.

Why did the words stop at the tip of my tongue?

The love story stopped at that second

but this summer brings happiness, I reckon.

All righteous, I told you about my love,

again today, I’ll tell you through the peace dove.

But I forgot that I hurt you again.

I leave the memory behind in the rain.

I'm sorry about my emotional breakdown

In a downpour, I now won’t drown.

I should apologize.

Can I do that with late summer’s sunrise?

That day I forgot to love and forget myself.

I take the love back out the shelf.

If there is an "if",

whilst hanging off this cliff,

I will admit it's my obsession and my mistake

but it will not keep me awake.

The cruel words made me regret

but through it I cleared my debt.

Can I have the right to love again?

Yes, my love cannot always be in vain.

It's a new day after the endless night

after the harsh fight in the moon’s dear light.

It's a new year after overcoming the pain

and I can run down a leaf-covered lane.

I take the path alone, the one that I drew

but how can I live the rest of my life without you?

But you will not return, you’ve crossed the cleft

the day you left.

(I will love you differently from now on.)

Notes:

Thank you for reading.
Please enjoy your day, my dears.
