After a few torturous hours on a plane, Night could finally step on solid ground, his back was grateful for that, he couldn't sleep well in the uncomfortable seat in economy class, especially with Tihn by his side, his best friend achieved the incredible record for talking during the entire trip, it was a relief when the pilot announced that they were going to land.
After the relief of being out of that huge flying machine had passed, now he had to face the heat that was there in California, Night felt that the number of tank tops he had brought for his two-week vacation at Luna's beach house might not be enough.
"I gotta a feeling..." he heard his best friend's voice sounding loudly next to him, followed by the female voice of Ongsa who completed the song with "That tonight's gonna be a good night" it was incredible how those two's minds seemed to be connected.
"Why the music out of nowhere?" Night asked, seeing Charoen come to them with Sun, the two girls had gone to get their bags.
"We are manifesting! So that our vacation will be incredible," the taller girl replied, hugging her girlfriend, the two girls were stuck together like glue.
"Then hail a taxi, because I can't wait for us to get to Malibu! Beaches, the sun, and hot guys and girls in trunks and bikinis playing volleyball!" Charoen pretended to faint, she definitely had a strange fetish for guys and girls who play volleyball "Guys, on this trip I'm going to focus completely on my mission to lose my virginity! Night and I are the only virgins in our group of friends, and that needs to change, it's so humiliating!"
Tihn glanced at Night, and he knew exactly what the short guy wanted to say, luckily he and Tihn had good telepathy, they didn't even need words to understand what the other wanted to say, so Night knew that his friend had understood his menacing look that said a silent "You better keep quiet, idiot!"
"I'll help you friend! I'll find you a really hot guy or girl with special volleyball skills!" Tihn responded, hugging his friend who was a little taller than him, Charoen had been very happy hearing this, she was almost jumping for joy now that she had a helper on her mission.
"Night, Tihn can help you too! We're in California! You don't want to remain just being a virgin loser boy!" Charoen came skipping towards Night, who at that moment was begging Tihn not to open his mouth, he could almost feel the sweat running down his forehead.
"I think Night can do it alone, Charoen... he looks like an idiot, I know, but he's smarter than we think," the boy said, with his arms crossed and a small smile, the girl with long brown hair was confused and would have asked a series of questions had it not been for Sun's interruption.
"Guys! We got two taxis! Come on!" Sun shouted, waving already inside a yellow car, the three hadn't even noticed that Ongsa and her weren't around, luckily the moms in the group had saved the day again.
Ongsa, Sun, and Charoen went in one car, Night and Tihn in another. The taller boy barely waited for his friend to close the car door before he started talking, taking advantage of the fact that the driver probably didn't understand Thai.
"Tihh, I told you that no one on earth can know about what happened last week, you understand?! I saw by your face that you were dying to open your mouth and tell the girls, but they can't know! Especially Luna!”
"Ni! Relax! I'm not going to tell them that you lost your virginity to North, Luna's hot brother last week,'' he shouted out the window, being scolded by the driver and by Night who was ready to commit a murder.
"You love repeating that, and why?" Night sank into the backseat of the taxi, the driver had just fought with Tihn in a nice Thai, and his reckless actions from last week still continued to torment and embarrass him.
"I'm proud of you my baby, you caught a big fish!" Tihn had the annoying habit of squeezing Night's cheeks when he was embarrassed, Night was so cute! "You know that half the guys and girls at college wanted to have sex with him, right? You caught a big shark."
"Oh! Enough! I don't want to hear about him, I'm going to pretend he doesn't exist for these two weeks, finally, I won't have to avoid him in the corridors, we're miles apart!" Night put on his headphones and turned to the scenery outside the window, ignoring Tihn's laughter.
"I'm so happy that you all came! We've been planning a vacation here for years and it never happened, but now you're all here!" Luna had repeated these phrases a million times since the taxis had arrived at her family's beach house, but one thing the girl with dark black-blue hair was right, the group had been trying to get together on a group vacation in California for years! And nothing could ruin Night's long-awaited trip.
"Lulu, let's let the humans rest!" Aylin said, she knew Night's face from afar, they both also had good telepathy, Aylin was the vice-president of the astronomy club where Night was the president. "Night is almost sleeping standing up and I'm not going to carry anyone to the room!"
"Of course, then let's get organized! The house has 4 bedrooms, Aylin and I will stay in my parents' room, Sun and Ongsa will stay in my room, Tihn and Charoen in the guest room, and Night you will stay in my brother's room, right?" the girl explained, helping her friends carry their bags. "Night, North's room is on the second floor on the right, you can go there, I'll show the other rooms to the girls and Tihn."
Night felt his heart stop just hearing North and room in the same sentence, but he pretended it didn't affect him and followed his friend's instructions, there weren't many doors upstairs so it was easy to find the right one. That room was certainly tidier than the other one he had been in last week, but he tried to get those stupid comparisons out of his head, he didn't want to think about North, not here miles away from him.
The room had a huge balcony overlooking the beach, Night immediately went to the glass door and opened it, pulling the white curtains that now danced with the good sea breeze that invaded the place. Night could smell the waves, the sunscreen, the strong scent of North that had been stuck on his body for days and that was now so vibrant as if… as if North were there.
"It's good to see you in my room again, star," said North, those full lips and the hoarse voice so close to Night's ear made the boy jump in fright, coming face to face with the tall figure staring at him with a slutty smile. His spotted arms formed a trap, Night could feel the cold metal of the porch railing touching his back as North trapped him there.
He had just gotten out of the shower, the color of his hair was identical to his sister's, still black but with a little dark blue, but those locks were unmistakable to the shorter boy, Night was staring at his bare chest, there was only a towel around his neck and black shorts at the bottom.
"What are you doing here?" Night asked in a low tone, they were so close, it was almost like a whisper or a secret between two lovers.
"This is my room," he replied, smiling, showing that row of white teeth.
"What are you doing here in California? If I knew you were coming I wouldn't have come," he said, looking into those big eyes, North looked at him as if he was about to devour him but Night looked at him as if he just wanted to escape.
"I know that, I saw your efforts to escape from me, you're so slippery that I had to lock you here," the taller boy pressed his hands even tighter on the bars, he still felt that strange feeling inside him when he heard that boy talk about him with so much disdain. "But Tihn is a nice guy."
"Are you and him having little secrets now?" Night pushed him, he was so furious that his first reflex was to take back the bags he had put on the bed and leave, but he was stopped by North who went towards the door.
"Jealousy?" he laughed, finishing drying his wet hair with the towel.
"I'm going back to Thailand, get out of my way!"
"Oh sure, just turn right and you'll get there!" he threw the towel towards Night, irritating him even more.
"Why did you ask Tihn to lie? He assured me that you weren't coming and I don't want to see you, I don't want to see you ever again," now it was Night's turn to trap him there, North was glued to the door with the boy with furious eyes pressing his finger against his chest, but he didn't intend to run away, if he could he would stay there forever.
"I know," he replied, crossing his arms and tilting his head, making it even more difficult for Night.
"What do you want with me?"
"I heard you and Tihn talking on Monday, you said having sex with me was a mistake. Am I a mistake for you?" Night looked at him, but he didn't answer him right away, that confession had surprised him.
"People can have sex without needing to talk about it the next day, or the other days, we don't need to talk about that night," he finally replied, releasing him and moving away from that body that followed him wherever he went.
"Of course, I don't go around wanting to talk to everyone I fucked, I just want to know why I'm a mistake for you," North seemed affected and didn't even know why he cared so much about what Night thought of himself.
"You're so cocky, it hurts to hear that you're not the perfect person you think you are, right?" he smiled, it felt good to stick a knife in the back of that unshakable figure, it was like knocking a king off his throne.
"When you were moaning my name, I was perfect, right? So why did you decide the other day that I was a mistake?" North sat on the edge of the bed, keeping his defiant gaze on the shorter boy who was sitting at his desk, looking at his things with disinterest.
"I was drunk," he replied without taking his eyes off the fan control he had in his hands, he didn't want to look at it.
"No, you weren't! I would never sleep with someone drunk, I'm not like that," North had taken offense, he would never do something like that. "Why am I a mistake for you?" he repeated when he saw that Night wouldn't answer him.
"Because you are! You're a magnet for problems and you think everything can be solved with a punch in the face, you walk around covered in bruises and you're used to everyone at your feet! And having sex with someone like you was my biggest mistake!" Night went to him again, staring at the body below him, sitting on that bed wearing only shorts, his fragrant hair and such eye-catching lips were a huge distraction.
"To you I'm just a troublemaker? You don't know me, Night!" he got up, they were again too close to each other.
"I grew up with you, I know who you are!" Night now had an even better view of those lips.
"No, you don't know who I am… and I'm going to prove it to you" he said, with determination.
"Let's make things more fun, if you really want to do this… let's make a bet," he smiled, seeing his eyes light up in excitement.
"If I prove to you by the end of this trip that I'm different from what you think I am, you have to do what I want," he held out his hand to him.
"But if my opinion of you remains the same by the end of the trip… you'll never think about me again, right?"
"Right!" they joined hands, the bet had begun.
