Chapter Text
The concept of a Catgirl has entertained and depressed many a weeb for centuries. Their cheerfully servile demeanor, as well as their gentle facial features, has propelled them up the ranks of every waifu chart since the beginning of time. A Catgirl is a pet and a best friend, a loyal servant and a beautiful lover, a shining beacon of hope and a furious fireball of feline rage; the benefits and possibilities are innumerable. Today, however, there are many who strongly believe that the Catgirl is an overused plot device that is only still thrown into anime series because of their natural sex appeal; those who subscribe to this outlook are often the same people who take life far too seriously and are easily ashamed of their own hobbies.
Matthew Hale was no such person.
That’s not to say that he was a completely degenerate teen; in fact, his life was so average and uneventful that nobody would even bat an eye if they were to somehow discover that he was a coinsurer of anime. Hale was heavily invested, both financially and emotionally, into the concept of Catgirls and would always keep an eye on every forum, webpage, and news article about these feline creatures. Over time, he became a sort of expert on the subject. To say that he was very interested in them would be a massive understatement.
That being said, this fascination never got in the way of his studies. While not being the smartest student, he was never in any real danger of failing a class. By carefully navigating into the B range, he managed to give himself even more time to focus on the most important matters.
Although there were a few people that he considered to be his friends, he absolutely hated talking to people, instead, he would often be seen alone; he was much more of a listener than a talker, and it was this quiet disposition that caused him to overhear a conversation that would lead him into undertaking a life altering project. This conversation had taken place in science class, and that day’s lesson was about outer space. Somehow he had overheard two of the boys talking about aliens.
“I mean yeah, I would be much more interested in this stuff if they were the hot kind of alien chicks or maybe even the ones with cat ears.”
Alien Catgirls are a thing now?
“Right, dude; last thing you want is Jabba the Hutt to come along and colonize you.”
“Speak for yourself.” The first one answered jokingly.
“Very funny, but now that I think about it, I would love to see a Catgirl from outer space... or, you know, anywhere for that matter. Man, imagine the possibilities…”
After hearing that, Matthew didn’t really pay much attention to the two slackers, but later in the day, the subject continued to gnaw at him. What if Catgirls were real? How would they react to us humans; the odds are that they wouldn’t be as loving and supportive as the stereotypes we often fantasize about. Although they aren’t real, do they have to remain that way? If no, is there any chance that someone would come along and bring a Catgirl into the real world? Surely, mankind has made some progress into the creation of life; you know, besides the whole committing bestiality thing. Before he knew it, this operation became his latest obsession.
On that day, he decided to see Operation Catgirl through.
