Summary
It is the grim future of the 42nd millennium.
11,000 years ago, the greatest conflict of the Imperium of Man nearly destroyed humanity's empire among the stars. Half of the Astartes legions, led by Rogal Dorn, Robute Gulliman, and Leman Russ, captured the Emperor in his palace on Terra, decrying him as a tyrant, and turned on their brothers.
Horus Lupercal, previously named Warmaster, rallied his siblings that he could to rescuing the Emperor. In the decade long war, many worlds burned. Thirsting gods jockeyed to secure their favoured warrior's worship. Whole generations fought and died, watering the ground with oceans of blood and bloated corpses.
At the Heresy's end, the traitors were pushed into the Eye of Terror, vowing to return and put to the Imperium they helped to build to the torch.In this new Age of the Cicatrix Maledictum, those same traitorous forces prepare to return, invigorated and maddened.
Inquisitor Trevelyan, seeing the signs of a renewed invasion of the Imperium, gathers the disparate Astartes that he can, to rally and keep what exists of the Imperium alive. He can only hope the signs he has seen foretell the Imperium's victory.
